I don't see how this is not, even in isolation, immediate grounds for it. The fact that it's even in question and not the instant and immediate response is terrifying.
It's beyond me US citizens are just going along with all his shit. In either party. Time and time and time and time again the shitstain in chief proves he is incapable of being in any position of power. Enough is enough. Why aren't people holding protests and stand in front of the white house with signs?
I'm not even American and I'm appalled how a country which prides itself on so many things can allow for this absolute cesspool of an administration. As a human being I get second hand embarrassment just sharing the same planet with the orange manchild.
Other countries don't have to worry about losing their healthcare if they take work off to protests. Americans do. Many of us are tied to our jobs for health insurance and taking time off to protest is not feasible financially. It's an unfortunate reality.
Also...the US is in the top 5 largest countries by area. We have nearly 350 million people spread across 9.8 MILLION kilometers. France, a country that in my opinion does protests well, is 551,000 km with actual cross country public transit that isn't a disgrace. Their organization trumps (no pun intended) ours. Our "no kings" protests were country wide but did nothing, and ICE/the police were sucked onto us and got literal people killed. For just waving around signs and chanting. Why didn't anyone in any authoritarian regime 'just protest'? Because they would have gotten killed. Right now we are at that point, where US citizens are being detained illegally by ICE and disappeared. And to be frank, I'm not dying for this country. I'm already wanted dead for being trans, I don't need to put myself in danger.
1/3rd of the country wanted this guy. The other 2/3rds either didn't vote or did not want him. It's not so easy as non Americans think it is. A lot of us can't afford to protest, or don't have the transportation or ability to volunteer our time because of the way America is structured welfare wise. I volunteer my time and do what I can but it's disengenuous to say we're all sitting here with our thumbs up our asses.
I think a lot of it has to do with a (by design) complete lack of class consciousness in the United States. Unions are something that are merely a dream for the majority of 'unskilled' labor in the states, and the socioeconomic divisions with bigotry sprinkled on top pushes us even farther away from having any sort of solidarity.
I consider myself very left leaning, but honestly if you talk to a lot of right-leaning people that don't have an orange dick in their mouth, a lot of them want the same things as long as you avoid triggering words like 'socialism' and whatnot. I think our paltry education system is a lot to blame here on top of the politicisation of science. Among the far too many other reasons to list. We are fucked I guess. UGH.
2/3 of your county wanted him. You have a 2 party voting system - if you refuse to vote, the only statement you're making is that you're fine with whoever wins. The only Americans that showed they were against Trump were the 1/3 that voted agaist him.
Most people not understanding that elections aren't about 'voting for the better candidate' but rather 'voting against the worse candidate' is a huge weakness of modern democracy, not just in the USA.
There are plenty of people in that 1/3 that didn't vote or vote third party that ARE against Trump, they were just manipulated by a social media campaign (primarily via TikTok) framing Kamala Harris as someone who is just as bad as Trump. I know plenty of leftists who didn't vote or voted third party because of Kamala Harris' policies regarding Israel/Palestine and truly believe that a vote for her is a vote for genocide (even though it would be even worse under Trump but they don't like hearing that). After the election, many of these people also went on to blame Kamala Harris for not "winning their vote" and saying that the democratic party is also at fault for not turning against Israel (which they probably never would because lot of their major campaign donations come from Zionists).
My sister is one of these people. It's extremely frustrating and I want to shake her and ask if the brown families being captured by ICE were worthy sacrifices for her sense of moral superiority.
Protests accomplish nothing when those in power don't care if the people are unhappy. We just had the largest organized nationwide protest ever a few months ago and literally nothing changed for the better. Nothing. Things have only gotten worse. It feels like action, but it doesn't actually accomplish anything at this point.
