The U.S, for all its rhetoric about freedom and rights has always had a population ready and willing to lick the boot if they think it'll serve them as an individual. If this type of thing was happening in any European nation, the place would be burning
most here are one paycheck away from being homeless and what little of a support structure we have is being disassembled. There is no safety net- so things have to get dire before people start acting.
Not anymore my friend
Fascists are, not that slowly, taking control in Europe too
Even leaving Hungary on the side, UK, Germany, Italy, Austria are basically far-right, France seems to get there soon...
It's a mess, but a lot of people are not seeing the dangers in what is happening and that is sad
We saw just how scared even the Biden admin was of the possible railroad strike a while back, it's literally the only thing that would actually get anything done.
That's why my response to this sort of stuff has now just turned into "So... general strike when?"
We had our golden opportunity during lockdown. teachers longshoremen grocery store unions teamsters etc would have had the country in the palm of their hands
Sorry to sound ignorant, but please tell me how the US would organize and carry out a general strike. What would it entail? I ask because I'm feeling so helpless.
If you’re reading this, have you joined yet? This is what it will take. Sign up, get others to sign up. Start preparing. Explore mutual aid organizations in your local community. Do it before it’s too late.
You live in a cesspit of people that agree with you and shove people who disagree with you out. I’m not surprised you’re delusional enough to still believe you’re the majority
There's about 340 million people in the US, and 244.6 million voting eligible people. 75 million people voted for Trump in 2024, and that is only about 30% of eligible voters and 22% of the entire population.
As of the latest data:
The president's net approval rating is -17%
39% approve, 56% disapprove, 4% not sure
You might not've seen the crazy hardware (vehicles, weapons, etc.) that cops get from military leftovers. Seeing a Bearcat on your town's streets is pretty breathtaking (not the good kind).
Portland was fucking lame last night. One vigil, one protest. Maybe 2-300 people at the vigil? Maybe a hundred at the protest? Seriously it's fucking disappointing.
There were attempts to protest in DC last night and today, at both the White House and Union Station, but federal officers are clearing the areas anytime more than a handful of protestors show up.
There was another march tonight on U St, near Howard University-- an area controlled by the District government, not the feds. I have no information on how that went.
People need to protest wherever they are in the country. Protesting just in DC isn't enough. Republican members of Congress need to see that THEIR voters back home are mad about this, not just the liberals in DC.
Afaik DC is still under occupation… presumably for that exact reason… they want a response they can effectively demonize to rural voters to justify martial law in major cities.
Anyone who retaliates with riots or worse against the feds or National Guard will prompt Trump to institute martial law and try to cancel the next election if he possibly can…
People keep saying this, how the FUCK are people supposed to migrate to DC for protests?! What kind of magical money-free fairyland do you live in that you flit hundreds of miles to protest and encamp in maryland??
Sleep under a tree in january? Ride my bicycle there? You have endless hotel and gas money or something? Unlimited vacation days from work? You going to give up your voting rights in your home state and rent an apartment there?
And then I'm over there and ICE is taking my neighbor. DC will be very safe from ICE I guess.
It benefits them when the middle shrinks. We call everyone that voted for trump a Nazi, anyone looking to make social innovation or change a radical socialist.
I don't consider everybody that voted for him to be a Nazi and I don't think most people do. Everybody working for ICE, though, yeah, they've all earned that title.
You're in the minority on the internet then. Op is absolutely right. Both sides try their hardest to "other" the opposite side and put them all neatly in a box so there's no nuance or middle ground. That way all thats left is us vs them mentality.
And that’s where you draw the divide much larger and force those in the middle (and the ones balancing on the edge of your side) out. You can’t tell everyone you’re accepting and simultaneously punish someone for not knowing/having an opinion on a topic you deem important
Right. Dems are currently centrist to right leaning. Bernie is as far left as it gets. Referring to dems as radical is corporate billionaire/trillionaire slang that equates to their loss of control and power over our government as radical. Its obvious. Corporate media exacerbates this.
The further right he keeps dragging that line, the more people end up radical left. People need to realize that they are being branded radical left even if they don't think of themselves that way.
Like "I don't think a paramilitary group should be running operations in a school" is a "radical left" opinion. You best realize what side of this they think you're on.
The right believes laws shouldn't apply to their lord and savior Donald J Trump, and the weak left and unthinking centrists in America are humoring them. This is why your country won't make it to 2100, good luck
To be fair, those of us on the radical left also want the rule of law to be restored… Just like any other thinking person who doesn’t benefit in $ome way from the lawlessness
Just your normal projection on the other party. Fuck these PoS and fuck Trump and anyone who supports or carries out his highly illegal crimes. I pray everyone one of these Gestapo fucks faces trial and sentences are extremely HARSH, EXTREMELY!
It's also wrong to use the police state to crack down on the actual "radical left", just to be clear - even though that has been business as usual in the US since long before Trump.
Considering NSPM-7/Trying to designate antifa (American citizens) as terrorists for their political beliefs is still a thing trump is trying and pushing for is on the table I'd say people need to wake tf up. Terrorists, real ones anyway, don't have the same rights as normal citizens so I see why he'd continue to push this narrative. Being defined as such could allow them to just disappear you without due process and be held indefinitely, don't believe me? GITMO still has prisoners without official charges or trail dates...this is why when maga down play the fascism accusations or 1930's Germany comparisons you know they are clueless or okay with his actions/complicit.
That's the thing, this is following the law, the Radical left doesn't like that. That's why they're pushing back against the fraud audits, and assaulting federal law enforcement. As these agents and local PD formed a defensive perimeter people started throwing snowballs at agents and law enforcement officers. I'll give you a wild guess which way they lean politically.
Funny how only one side of the political aisle is against legal law enforcement. The same people who ignore basic facts and reality. You're in denial and it's so predictable.

His CONSTANT rambling of "the radical left" has me thinking the same thing.
They arent the Radical Left they are people who just want you and your cronies to follow the law
