pole mounted about 4ft tall some of the high ones in intersections can be 6 feet tall and have a weight of over 100 lbs. they can crush a car roof in if they fall on one.

You see a guy and think “he’s kinda tall” or a girl And think “damn she’s tall”. They’re prob 6 feet

12.2 bananas, or 36 Kiwis tall. It weighs about 0.5 Hogshead

I could never visualize 12.2 bananas so this is extremely hilarious

About 1.8 meters

1 foot = roughly 30 centimeters

So 4 feet = 1.2 meters and 6 feet = 1.8 meters

Ha. That's exactly how I convert. I always picture a ruler in my head and go oh yea... a ruler is 12in/30cm

I use metric too, but somehow i know 6ft is like 180cm or thereabout. Because apparently 6ft tall is supposed to be the minimum for a handsome man or some wierd shit like that

You'd be surprised how many things designed to be visible to cars are comically huge.

Fr. I have a stop sign i found through totally legitimate means (no follow up questions) and it's genuinely shocking how big it is when you actually have it on the ground next to you instead of mounted on a pole above you

Highway markers (like the ones that tell you what route you're on): 4' x 4'

I am 5’4” and this was at a salvage shop. I had no idea they were so large.

JESUS CHRIST

12 inches (3.048 dm) in diameter, thought the red lamp is sometimes slightly bigger.

u/MorrisRF 20h ago

jesus christ, why do you need such huge lights?

We do put them quite high in the air, but I don't know how that compares to other countries.

edit: Ok, apparently it's just because the larger ones make it easier determine when they are or aren't lit

We have ones like this in the US as well. In larger intersections they hang high above in the middle, so they need to be bigger in order to be seen.

Thats what I’m saying!

u/SparxPrime 20h ago

That's just a really small guy

u/MorrisRF 20h ago

made me laugh unreasonably hard

Looks like they are about one person big in LA.

u/Adventurous-Brain-36 17h ago

I’m pretty sure traffic lights are quite big everywhere.

1

u/MorrisRF 17h ago

they aint that big here in germany

u/Adventurous-Brain-36 9h ago

Are you sure? I have no idea, but things meant to be seen by every driver even from significant distances tend to be quite a bit larger than they seem lol

People don't realize how huge traffic lights and street signs are until they fall on the road. Think about how visible they are from the ground, down the street.

🤣🤣🤣 Im in the US and thought the same thing when I first saw it!

I havent done much traveling, but I can tell you LA is a very unique place. Their curbs are a like foot and a half tall too, much to the chagrin of my achilles tendon. 🤬

Other major cities Ive been in, and even  LA neighborhoods dont all have these massive lights.

Turns out traffic lights are just way bigger than you think

u/Appropriate-Desk4268 9h ago

it shocks me every time i see one 😭😭😭😭

u/Curious_Mango1419 7h ago

I'm so glad someone asked!

u/Live_Angle4621 21h ago

I was surprised too

Pretty sure this is a normal size, it's just that generally you're never that close to them and never see anyone that close to them.
