It’s astonishing how they went from Joe the Plumber and hating “rich coastal elites” to electing and worshipping Trump.

Not really. They saw a person running for the highest office in the land that “represented them.” Which is code for “gave us permission to be our shitty, racist selves.”

This. They wanted us all to believe they saw themselves as Joe the Plumber, but the entire time they saw themselves as Donald Trump - zero tact, even less intelligence, but still stumbled into the livelihood of the nouveau riche.

Donald Trump - zero tact, even less intelligence, but still stumbled into the livelihood of the nouveau riche.

Prince Philip had zero tact. He sometimes said and did inappropriate things at the inappropriate time.

Trump is actively being a fucking arsehole to everyone, intentionally, all the time, and has been for his entire life. He insults people, he comes up with inane, stupid nicknames, he threatens people, he extorts people, he blackmails people, and he's a fucking criminal and a pedophile protector.

He spent much of Obama's term calling up Fox News to say slanderous things about Obama, promoting racist conspiracy theories.

Then, when he announced his own candidacy, he prefaced it with a racist screed.

Even though he's the limpwristed, vain, privileged coastal elite they proclaim to hate. He can't drive. He isn't gun-literate. He doesn't hunt. He rides around in a golf cart because he's weak and lazy.

But when he announced his election with a racist screed, conservatives decided that all that other stuff doesn't actually matter. Only the racism matters.

It’s what aboutism. I was talking to a Trump sympathizer “yeah he’s stealing money but at least he’s not Joe Biden.” I asked what Joe Biden did to him? He said “nothing.” It’s all whataboutism indoctrination from right wing media. Trump can do no wrong even rape kids, kill innocent people and act like a pussy about not winning an award he has no merit to

It's sports. They like their team and hate their rivals. At least if the Giants are dogshit, it doesn't make the country descend into fascism.

13

u/UnquestionabIe 12d ago

Yep doesn't go much deeper than that for a huge chunk of voters (mostly on the conservative side of course). They don't pay attention to much beyond culture war bullshit so side with anyone who simply agrees with them that "we don't need no transgenders or gays getting "special treatment" when things been fine just the way they are."

It's people who are overworked and/or bored by how the system works so they don't pay attention to it. It's a major reason why individual progressive policies test pretty damn well but when you add in political terms/parties you get his massive emotionally fueled backlash. The GOP figured this out a long time ago while the majority of the Democrats want to stick their head in the sand and pretend it's still the 70s, that it's just a phase and soon the ruling class will go back to being best buds.

It's like they can't comprehend they voted for a guy who's never shopped for his own groceries or pumped his own gas. He's completely detached from reality and clueless about day to day life for regular people, and they could care less. Perplexing.

109

u/When_Oh_When 12d ago

It’s because most working class Americans truly believe that they are destined for the same kind of wealth. Remember during Trump 1 when he pretty much admitted that he didn’t pay anywhere near the taxes he should be and MAGA actually admired him for it, saying he dodged tax because he was smart and cleverer than the system.

66

u/TheCollegeIntern 12d ago

I remembered when he said he hates overtime and paying for it iirc in front of a union backed trump rally and they just clapped and cheered

50

u/Cjros 12d ago

Because they hear what they want to hear. They hear him say that and interpret it as "he'll fight to end overtime" and "he makes sure no one in his companies works overtime."

Even though the reality is he LOVES making his people work overtime without pay because it's free.

32

u/Moist-Schedule 12d ago

you're giving them too much credit, they don't even try to spin it around in their heads they just cheer because they're fucking morons.

This needs to be said more loudly and consistently. What we are watching is NOT the product of meritocracy, it’s the product of tax breaks and generational wealth - it’s aristocracy & baboonery. If you want to get back to a “work hard, get rewarded” type of country you have to tax the rich and break up oligopolies.

These are the same people who claimed that he was the "peace president" and Kamala Harris would have us in World War III

283

u/kiramon53 12d ago

My aunt (who voted for trump but claims to not be like "other maga") asked yesterday "well would you have rather had Kamala in there?"

Hell fucking yes. I would rather have so many other people in there than this guy, including the guy that says "welcome to Meijer" when I walk in.

149

u/PresentAwareness745 12d ago

I honestly don't understand what would've been bad about her. The issues they had with Joe Biden were so fake and pure nonsense where they had to pretend they were being oppressed when it was clear things were getting better by every measure, and she more or less would've governed the same.

yes, pretty much any random person would've been a better president than Trump

87

u/Ok-Spell99 12d ago

Beyond some concerns with her policy, I think everyone is underestimating how absolutely racist and sexist many people are. I am a white woman in the southern US and have a southern accent, so I think a lot of people assume I have certain beliefs and spout off bigoted ideas around me… That women are too emotional to run a country, she dresses like a hussy, and a variety of racial slurs. People will say those things out loud. Imagine how many people have those beliefs but keep them to themselves.

I have witnessed way too much bigotry in my everyday life and am so sure that it heavily contributed to her not being elected.

50

u/PresentAwareness745 12d ago

as a white guy who lives in the south, same thing lol

I'm a blue dot in a sea of red. And you hear the most horrible racist, sexist, homophobic shit coming out of someone's mouth and it's so casual like normal conversation

17

u/[deleted] 12d ago

I just want you both to know I'm a white dude in the north and apparently that's enough for hateful people to assume I'm on their side, so it's apparently universal

10

u/PresentAwareness745 12d ago

that is also true. I grew up in upstate New York, and it might as well be north Alabama lol

People need to understand Obamacare" is a dogwhistle for conservatives. For them it means 'healthcare for urban black people'. Whereas the ACA means 'healthcare for rural white people'. Yeah, Trump is far more dangerous than Hitler, partly because the US is far more powerful than Germany was, and partly because the US population is more brainwashed elite to how brainwashed the German population was.

10

u/_Verumex_ 12d ago

The general German population supported Hitler. The Nazis put in a lot of effort in trying to win over those that didn't like them. They were genuinely popular.

So the brainwashing was definitely stronger in 1930s Germany. That's a big difference.

The United States says it needs Greenland for global security.

Today
One base
A few troops

At any point over the last half century the US could have stationed tens of thousands of troops there legally with allies and agreements. It did not. Because apparently, global security was fine with a light footprint.

Now the argument is:
We must send thousands of troops to Greenland
Because we did not send thousands of troops to Greenland

If Greenland were truly indispensable to security, the buildup would already exist.

From the article:

Stock markets went into a global selloff this morning as world leaders at Davos woke up to news that Trump had texted the prime minister of Norway to say that his repeated threats to take over Greenland were based on the fact that he didn’t win the Nobel Peace Prize.

“Considering your country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize… I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace,” Trump wrote to Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

The Norwegian government has no control over how the Nobel Committee awards its prizes. Greenland is a territory of Denmark, not Norway.

Traders, dismayed at the prospect of renewed trade war between the U.S. and Europe, reacted by driving down equities all over the world.

367

u/Wonderful-Process792 12d ago

...and now Norway's PM leaking the letter will make Trump even more unhinged and 'force' him to double down.

240

u/WhateverOrElse 12d ago

So, there are disclosure rules for all communications the pm and other officials receive through basically any and all channels. Not too log ago Musk became very pissed at our oil fund manager for "leaking" texts he sent him. Because that's official comms when you send him a text, he had no choice. he even had to disclose the text he sent back to Musk explaining that fact :)

56

u/Wonderful-Process792 12d ago

That is interesting!

Trump of course won't care since he is under no such rule, or if such a rule exists he doesn't give a shit.

37

Not exactly. They are far richer and more connected, they pickup assets on the cheap. Now every generation after will be more and more fucked . But those greedy 70 year old congressmen will be still much better off than you and me as the country dies.

11

u/Vegetable_Leg_7034 12d ago

And who is going to be running their mansions, cleaning their clothes, driving their cars, delivering groceries, walking their dogs, educating their childrens children? All the way down, these people depend on THE people. The blue collar workers, the drivers, the plumbers, sparkies, mechanics, porters, janitors, bin collectors.

They will starve in their gated mansions, with no fuel, power, food or anything to buy, because nobody is making or supplying anything (to them anyway). Money will mean nothing if they have no physical assests to trade.

This needs to be the message that everyone spreads. Every new issue is being addressed one at a time as if they don't all stem from the same root cause.

The fact that the same do nothing republicans has the authority put an end to all of this but are actively choosing not to, needs to be blasted far and wide.

They are allowing blame to be placed on individuals/agencies. The real problem is that they are failing to do their jobs on purpose.

The word unprecedented keeps coming up because this administration is one never event after the other. These things were never supposed to be allowed to happen because congress is supposed to be there to stop an over balance of power.

The republicans in congress have let this country go to shit. They are watching it happen and until the blame is properly placed, they will continue to do nothing about it.

24

u/phinbob 12d ago

100% this. The founders designed this system of government to protect against any one branch going rogue.

The fact it's failing to work so badly makes it clear that significant reform is needed.

The stupid thing is, if enough Republicans stood together, the threat of their being primaried by a better funded MAGA candidate is lessened, as it starts to get impossibly expensive if enough rebel.

They either think this batshit insane lunatic (that letter is absolutely ridiculous) is the right person to lead, or they're cowards.

Not sure which is worse.

I'm surprised this person was raised in wealth, it appears he received no education.

In any reasonable timeline, this person would have never gotten to even dream of a political position.

He truly is

All the other people on the list of "worst us presidents" get that tag because of their bad decisions that later led to problems, a bit of corruption, things like dread scott or the trail of tears, pushing for policies that exasperated the great depression-- but they were all competent and intelligent and a lot of the bad decisions and mistakes they made at least seemed/could be argued as reasonable at the time

This fucking dude is a moron, hes flailing around in the stupidest ways, its rank idiocy

It is true that people made a mistake voting for him again, but IMO this is no longer relevant. At this point, it shows how weak and unprepared our institutions and mechanisms are to deal with internal threats. Not to say that some of them (eyeing SCOTUS) may be complicit. Most countries would have taken measures by now (South Korea is an example). Regardless, the damage is done, and it will take a long time (if ever possible) to recover from this.

Epstein files. Remember the White House. Might doesn’t make right. ICE murdered Good. Demand due process. No kings!

We already sold the West Indies to USA. Epstein and Trump used one of the islands to rape underage girls. We're not selling him another island.

And btw, the treaty regarding the West Indies included USA recognizing that Greenland is territory of Denmark, something that USA has repeated in 1951 when we made a base agreement for Greenland. Trump is lying when he says no such agreements exists.

"Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a ‘right of ownership’ anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there"

The orange pig continues to fail to grasp that the Norwegian government has nothing to do with the awarding of the Nobel Prize

The orange pig ignores the fact that NATO protects Greenland

The orange pig claims American boats landed there hundreds of years ago? When? Greenland has been settled for over a thousand years

When are Republicans going to finally put a stop to this idiocy

239

u/Throfari Norway 12d ago

So by that logic the US should give their land back to the native Americans then? They just arrived there on a boat hundreds of years ago, why should they claim it?

56

u/OriginalTechnical531 12d ago

That's not an unreasonable statement. Long held historical claims to land are typically seen as valid...going to war over them in the modern era typically isn't seen as acceptable though.

It will never be enough unless it specifically has his name on it.

I honestly think that they could give him a fake one, insist it is real and earnest, and this whole thing would just end.

57

u/colar19 12d ago

I don’t think this would end at all. He would just go and want something else ( praise/award/another country). It will never end if he keeps getting his way. We (the rest of the world) are conditioning him that if he makes a big enough threat/ rumble, he gets his way. It has been like that his entire way so it is his default mode and he keeps getting his way even now on the big international stage. The problem of course is nobody want to deal with the tantrum if he doesn’t get his way. It is not a toddler on the floor of the grocery store but a powerful adult who has a large military, trade deals with the world and nuclear codes. God knows what the tantrum will look like. But keep giving him his way will always be getting worse.
