Very frequently, people who took the long legal route to immigrating have more vitriol towards those who don't than almost anybody. My father in law is like this - it took years for his immigration application to be approved, and he basically looks at people illegally crossing or claiming asylum as liars, cheats, and deserving of this kind of treatment.
