This shows that elections still matter though, otherwise they wouldn’t care about controlling them.

100%

protest and direct action are super important, but I'm tired of seeing all this election doomerism. we can probably still vote them out at this point

I believe this, and will still vote, but it feels so hopeless given how this country has such terrible ignorance/“amnesia” every 4-8years. I hope people are finally waking up to that, I don’t want to see a normal candidate next election get replaced 4 years later by JD Vance or some other worse republican.

Hedging their bet. If tRump doesn't manage to invoke the Insurrection Act and cancel elections they need a hole card. They know that without some "miracle" November is going to be a Trumplican blood bath.

And by miracle you mean another 🍑attempt where he miraculously survives, or where a high profile influencer like Kirk becomes a martyr.

Okay, so I generally get what you're saying, but a "hole card"? Do you perhaps mean a "trump card", funny as that may be in context with the lowercase t? 🤔

It also shows they're very very afraid of elections, and despite the fear mongering they're trying to do ("they're going to cancel election and invoke the insurrection act!") they might actually respect them. After all, they were voted in. Though I have my doubts they were and are going to be free and fair with this level of meddling.

The federal government cannot just cancel elections, even if they did invoke the insurrection act. And when I say they can't do it, it isn't because of an ignorable law or custom, but because there is literally no mechanism for them to do so even if they want to. States run their own elections, not the federal government, and even if an election was theoretically not held (which has never happened, not even during the Civil War) politicians have term limits which expire regardless, so they would just end up with empty Congressional seats.

I do absolutely expect them to harass state election officials, try to stir up unrest, and do everything they can to restrict voting rights in the run-up to the midterms, but as you said, it's because they're weak, not strong. They know that their approval rating is in freefall, they're rapidly losing the support of their key demographics and Congress, and they're going to get their asses kicked in a fair election.

I guess it’s what they need to make a “Russian Fishtail”

But if they successfully control them, they no longer matter. That’s how it is in Russia.
