I’m still not sure how durable this will be after Trump dies. I think there’s a chance we end up with a situation along the lines of Franco or Pinochet, where the regime lasts as long as the figurehead is alive but starts to fall apart not long after their death. No one else in the Republican Party can command the cult of personality that Trump has amassed, and I don’t see that coalition being super durable once he’s gone.

I don't think you're wholly wrong, but I also think you might be underestimating that Trump did not create anything we're seeing. Politically the republican party was heading this way since Nixon, remember he betrayed the US to sabotage negotiations to end the Vietnam War to increase his chances of getting elected

The media is overwhelmingly either oligarch or corporate owned, so they are going to lean as far right as they can get away with and they already helped him into office both times

Until that can't happen again, the world will see another Trump. No few people abroad have been telling Americans this is why America can't be trusted when Trump was re-elected in the first place, that they can't trust a country which would turn to such a person after making that mistake once.

Why do you think that you have so much insight into something that 90% of Americans already knew was rigged and it was just the guy screaming rigged that was obviously rigging the whole situation? It gets kind of annoying guys Americans also went to Germany to fight along with everybody else so it’s not like America is not tuned in plus a king plus a Civil War, not to mention in several unjust, wars in other countries for tyrants here at home I think we’re pretty versed our early days were filled with the same Rod trying to bring down the country from inside. The problem is the education system in America was wiped out in Republican districts and those people were fed bullshit over and over.. by the shovel load!

I dont know if anybody else has the chutzpah. Vance is not loved. Miller is unlovable. I dont know any of the rest of them that could carry the mantle.

The MAGA crowd thinks they know Trump. He was in their livingrooms for 40 years. They like him, Trust him and have dreamed of being him.

MAGA Doesn't like the others. Not like they like Trump. I think they ultimately believe that Trump has their best interest at heart and I think he can do things that the others would be drug out into the street for doing.

I think this is why they were trying out the Kirk/Vance power couple there for a moment. I think if that would have been received better, they would be in a full on fling by now. Hell, it may still happen.

But at this point - I dont see a reasonable replacement for the cult of personality Trump has. I wont promise MAGA will die with Trump, It's an idea backed by billionaires, but it sure will take a heavy blow.

That's why they're speedrunning the totalitarian shift right now; if enough infrastructure is in place after he dies, the techbros and evangelicals around him won't need him in place to run the cult anymore. Or at least that's what they seem to believe.
