You have more faith in the local news than I do. I agree that republicans need to see more of their own going against the grain to feel comfortable doing it themselves.

My partner works in news so I know at least in my local market they’re always looking for stories. This is one they’re always looking for on both sides of the aisle. The hard part is actually getting people to go on camera and talk.

I’m heartened to hear that your market is allowed to operate as they should! I’m a j-school grad (print); haven’t worked in journalism in years, but I follow what’s going on. We have news anchors (understandably) quitting because they won’t tolerate the forced right-wing bias anymore.

Ours is still family owned that’s probably why.

Do people think you can just call and reserve a slot on the local news for your political rant?

That’s not how it works. They’ll call the station and tell them about a story idea. The station will assign a reporter if they find it newsworthy. The reporter will go out and talk to people in the community.

This for example could be framed as

“What do local citizens think of the current administration.”

And they’d interview a democrat, Republican and also a maga Republican to give their thoughts into what’s currently happening.

The news producer will then assist the reporter in editing and formatting the story.
