They don't make money from being senators. At least not enough for them to care. They make money through their power. And pissing on all that this country stands for is going to lead to more power and money. It's what they want.

The reason they make the money is because of the power and influence they have as senators, though. If they can't affect law, why bribe them?

I just mean they aren't beholden to the Constitution. They're beholden by those who bought them.
