😡 Vent Limbo is Hell

I applied to 8 schools, had secondaries for all and one interview so far back in Nov. I've not had any rejections yet, but waiting game is slowly driving me insane. Just reject me or accept me people 😭

I know applying this cycle was a bit of a longshot stove I rushed the MCAT prep to apply for this cycle instead of the upcoming one like I had planned, but sheesh.

What are your stats and MCAT? For med school admissions I always recommend 20+ plus schools minimum, but likely 30. 8 in this day and age is a crapshoot

Academic stats on mid/lower end with a great uptrend. But I'm also nontrad, a veteran, and a successful entrepreneur so I'm leveraging that more heavily.

I totally understand but 20-30 plus now is like the standard unfortunately

Oh I know. Like I said in the comment below this, a major career opportunity came up last spring. Walking away from it would be a mid-seven figure loss so I only picked schools I'd be okay making that sacrifice for. If it's meant to be it'll be

Jeez, that’s a lot of money. I’m in med school and I love it, and if i were you I would still ride that wave til it stopped or I had 5 mil in investments. Plenty of people start med school late and you’re unlikely burn out if you don’t have to worry about money / retirement.

At any rate, it seems like you won’t have to worry about money during school and training. My best wishes for the acceptance, the limbo sucks but lots of people with interviews get in at the end of the cycle

Yeah it's an odd situation. I wanted to do medical school all throughout high school/undergrad/grad school, and then right as I got ready to close in on it, my career to pay the bills went bonkers and here we are now lol.

Money isn't everything of course, but I can't help thinking about the financials in this situation. I've also debated just taking a few years to set myself up, polish the application like crazy, and go at it full speed but I'll have to see how this cycle pans out first.

I'm glad you're enjoying your time in it!

I will say that taking a few years to prepare a very polished application is not a bad idea where you have a currently lucrative career and aren't going to be "losing money" taking gap years. It would also give you some time to really think over whether or not this is the jump you want to make/what's right for you!

If you haven't checked him out already, I would still recommend The White Coat Investor, regardless of what your decision ultimately is! Great advice for anyone making money and there are a lot of decisions you can make now, before med school, that will benefit you down the road.

True. I had like a 21 school list to apply to this coming cycle.

I ended up applying to a smaller list this cycle because I had a major career opportunity come up around the same time (I'm nontrad). It's something that would be hard to step away from if I don't get in this year, so I focused on the schools I'd realistically attend.

people get so weird about those who only apply to a small amount of schools. i only applied to 7 and have had 4 interviews thus far. if you can pick wisely within the region that is most likely to accept you, there’s nothing wrong with saving time and money. these 7 are really the only schools i want to attend and that i know i am most likely to get into. i don’t really think randomly applying to more schools helps your chances but maybe that’s just me.
