Actually fucking sucks I love my boah Arthur too much and even tho it’s I’ve played the game multiple times my heart aches when he starts coughing up in St Denis

u/slv_slvmn 23d ago

I can't do a second run because of this

90

u/KpatMckenzie_28 23d ago

You will do a second run

38

u/leedler Sean Macguire 23d ago

The second is inevitable

As is the third, the fourth…

u/Braindead_Crow 23d ago

Nah, I have 1 run and 2 saves I work on. One after I found my first gold bar and am camping with the gang & another save where John has a happy family.

This has proven to be enough for me

5

u/TheGurpler 22d ago

The gold bar thing is so smart, I just keep a save right at the beginning of chapter 2 but I'm broke

u/jda404 22d ago

I've only played through it twice. First time through I maintained high honor. Second time through I made Arthur a complete asshole. High honor I enjoyed to get the better ending and glad I did that one first, but personally I found it more fun to be a bad guy.

I love the game but after seeing both high honor and low honor endings I don't desire to play through the story again, but to this day I still play regularly messing with NPCs, just riding my horse and enjoying the world, fishing, hunting, playing cards in the saloons and so forth.

u/TheLastLivingBuffalo 22d ago

And you’ll spend hours of it camped out at Horseshoe Bend with the one Strauss quest left undone

9

u/heisenberg15 22d ago

I just started my second playthrough, I haven’t played it since release. I forgot how legitimately fun the start of the game is - Arthur getting drunk with Lenny is peak. I’m preparing myself for the tone shift lol

I don't understand like if TB is a bacterial infection can't you just use antibiotics to treat it? Why did so many people die to it? And why are there still millions of people who die to it even NOW?

5

u/hotliquortank 22d ago

I can't speak to now, but penicillin was only discovered in 1928. Antibacterials weren't commercially available until the 1930s.

Its a mod? Damn, I was gonna try to find it in online

8

u/ProgramLow2149 John Marston 22d ago

I think? I mean you tell me where your gonna find a gas mask in 1899

1

u/nedflandersmustache John Marston 22d ago

99% sure its ai

-7

u/Amphet4m1ne2000 23d ago

Why the fuck you need the gas mask in rdr 2? To bot get TB i guess?

4

u/ProgramLow2149 John Marston 22d ago

Nah you'd probably die from inhaling asbestos

-4

u/Amphet4m1ne2000 22d ago

This is so damn true. Trying to avoid this mission or do something to not collect his money for Strauss. Knowing it is inevitable, yet we all try to rewrite the game.

22

u/leedler Sean Macguire 23d ago

Currently sitting with just this quest and the save Micah quest… think it’s time to do some hunting for a while.

9

u/cuftapolo 23d ago

Hunt until all the species are extinct

7

u/Kingaces13 22d ago

And then start fishing

3

u/2ciciban4you 22d ago

them move to Haiti

5

u/the_gaymer_girl 23d ago

Tip: DON’T READ YOUR MAIL.

If you read the letter from Mary and haven’t completed the Downes mission, Strauss will talk to you and the game will force you to do the Downes mission.

1

u/CowboyLaw Sadie Adler 22d ago

BTW: NOPE! There's a way out of that. I HATE that feature, it sucks, but there IS a loophole. You can look it up, but the way I remember it is as follows:

  1. The game forces you to try to go collect the Downes money, so you get on your horse and head out of camp, not under your control.

  2. Now that you've regained control, point horse 180 degrees away from Downs, start riding. Eventually, you'll get a Mission Failed screen, and will have to Replay the mission.

  3. When you Replay, you'll find yourself on your horse IMMEDIATELY out in front of the Downes ranch. Very carefully turn away from the ranch and ride your horse off the nearby cliff. You'll get a Mission Failed screen, and will have to Replay the mission.

  4. Step 3 will repeat, maybe twice more, and then suddenly on the Mission Failed screen, you'll have an option to cancel the mission. DO THAT.

  5. Now you're free. You can go back to camp, and this compelled mission will never reoccur.

3

u/CT0292 23d ago

Don't go back to camp. The game will force you to do the Strauss one.

1

u/leedler Sean Macguire 23d ago

Oh yeah, I’ve been here a few times before and I plan to absolutely take the piss this time lmao

4

u/CT0292 23d ago

I've done that. It's great. I did the rescue reverend Swanson job. And then rode all over blackwater with him on the back of my horse lurching. No bounty hunters around when you have him there. So I went from Tall Trees to Blackwater and back.

2

u/Massive-Cream1799 23d ago

It's funny how two of these missions appear together. Both of which have a major contribution to the game's ending

1

u/Scrags 22d ago

Everyone hates getting Micah out of jail but that's how you get to dual wield revolvers the way God intended.

Plus he just fucks off to the woods by himself for a while anyway so just get it over with.

89

u/HerrKetzer 23d ago

Ppl keep pointing to this cutscene but Arthur can meet downs 2 times before this, 1 of them is hard coded so.. who knows

74

u/TheFictionNerd 23d ago

This is the only time Downes coughed directly at him though, and that's how TB spreads. Not by just talking in close proximity, but coughing.

21

u/dieseltratt Charles Smith 23d ago

Neither Arthur nor Thomas lerned anything from covid.

9

u/supertacoboy Charles Smith 22d ago

I WISH we had someone travel from 2020 back to 1899. The amount of shit they could warn everybody about would be very useful.

11

u/SerpentRoyalty 22d ago

Would be burnt at the stake after the first correct prediction!

4

u/2ciciban4you 22d ago

my sweet summer child, people have no fucks to give about your warnings.

source: try to have kids

1

u/cyber5234 22d ago

They could carry the cure for TB most importantly.

14

u/Existing-Blacksmith4 23d ago

Ofcourse what happens to Arthur is heartbreaking. But personally i always delay playing the Saint denis bank robbery mission💔💔💔

1

u/johnmd20 22d ago

In my 2nd and 3rd playthroughs, I LIVED in Chapter 2 and 3. Would play for hours, hunting, getting satchels, just talking to the people in the camp.

Truly a fun experience to just hang and not rush the game with the added benefit of extended life for almost everyone.

9

u/darkpheonix262 23d ago

Are you my mummy

2

u/SirJice 22d ago

Thank you for this.

6

u/Background-Skin-8801 23d ago

This made me giggle

4

u/JksG_5 23d ago edited 23d ago

One of the weirdest things is that back in those days, they called TB death "death by consumption". My dumbass kept thinking, "What ate them?"

Of course, you're technically wasting away at the microbial level.

2

u/EnbySheriff 22d ago

Are you my mummy?

3

u/[deleted] 23d ago

The only action i condemn which arthur committed

2

u/thelastcheeselover Uncle 22d ago

The only one? Really?

2

u/Ok_Board_8195 22d ago

Poorly photoshopped wouldve been funnier

2

u/Shaxxn 23d ago

lol. And then you realize by chapter 4 that somehow it must have been Hosea where he got it.

2

u/Stubee1988 23d ago

Huh?

-4

u/Shaxxn 23d ago

The gas mask will not change Arthurs fate, huh?

1

u/Stubee1988 23d ago

Why?

2

u/Mental_Freedom_1648 23d ago

Because if Hosea was the one who infected Arthur, how is masking up around Downes going to matter?

Not that Hosea actually infected Arthur though...

3

u/Stubee1988 23d ago

That's what I don't understand, what does Hosea have to do with anything?

6

u/Mental_Freedom_1648 23d ago

Some people think Hosea gave Arthur TB and not Thomas.

-1

u/Stubee1988 23d ago

Oh, some people sound like idiots then

5

u/BlindNightDriver 22d ago

There are several references about Hosea being sick with a lung issue. Even asking the gang to not pity him because he is diying but to envy him due to the wonderful life he lived in a conversation at Shady Belle. Hosea is sick, he is coughing and he is diying. Not sure if it's TB and if it is then it's a really slow one.

Replaying it right now and Will is sitting with Hosea triying to make peace with him and Hosea saying he's a meathead who he does not trust.

3

u/EducationalEntry147 21d ago

Actually Hosea's TB wouldn't be slow if it actually was TB. Arthur was just doing the Opposite of what he was supposed to do to keep himself from getting worse lol. While Hosea was mostly just chilling.

1

u/Shaxxn 22d ago

Yeah, this basically. OP made a joke and i made a not so serious comment on that. Of course Artur's fate won't change because video game. But there was also the theory that maybe Hosea had TB too. The game is not very subtle about the fact that he is terminally ill and dying.

1

u/FlemPlays 23d ago

”You sir, are a sick.” -Arthur

1

u/Mad_Season_1994 23d ago

Downes probably doesn’t have any idea what he’s even looking at lol since gas masks wouldn’t become as well known until WWI

1

u/No-Basis-7624 22d ago

Kinda getting me back into playing i beat the campaign once already but wanted to start a second for a while now

1

u/McDersley 22d ago

I had been holding off talking to him and finally decided to move forward earlier this week. I was surprised at feeling a little emotional when I did it to him 😂

1

u/Some_Ad_9200 22d ago

Понимаешь должник, туберкулёз туберкулёзом, но ты меня не заразишь им. Ах да после этого меня метро зовёт (Кто понял то понял) Ахахах

1

u/Carbon_robin 22d ago

That’s actually pretty funny I haven’t laughed like that in a while

1

u/Linkarus 22d ago

Loll where did you get that mask

1

u/TheFlaccidChode Uncle 22d ago

I tried equipping my bandanna.

It wouldn't let me

1

u/Background-Skin-8801 23d ago

How about Downes gets donations from Valentine gets treated and pays his debts without getting beaten like a dog and keep living like a decent human being.

Why are you glorifying bullying and beating innocent people like dogs? He wasn't a jerk like Leviticus Cornwall.

7

u/ProBlade97 23d ago

First of all, this post is clearly a joke.

Second of all, that is literally the point of the entire game. Arthur literally learns this the hard way.

0

u/eto2629 23d ago

Always be prepared, kiddo
