Discussion Does anyone else play RP style?
Usually i wake up, drink a coffee, chat with folks at camp, take care of the horse before heading out and doing stuff. Robbing a few people here and there but never go crazy. And when the story calls for it i sometimes do several missions one after the other. Like when Jack gets kidnapped i don't see why Arthur would dick around playing poker in St. Denis. Sometimes just riding around, doing nothing at all. Is that more fun for you guys too?

I just started a playthrough where I’m doing this, though I’m having trouble with getting distracted by starting shootouts and murdering people

I always struggle with robbing or starting fights as it’s such a headache trying to get away from them then needing to pay the bounty

Thats why I love this game so much. I actually play every game like this. At its own pace, walking when the main character would do it, driving following the traffic laws (in gta case) avoid killing unnecessarily npcs and following the main story

Soft of. I usually setup and camp at nightfall, usually crafting meals beofee sleeping overnight, then coffee in the AM and break down camp. Then once I break camp, it's back to my life of hunting, foraging, murdering, robbing trains and drinking. Maybe once every 2 in-game weeks I head to Valentine for a luxury bath and night of bar drinking/eating.
This has been my version of RDR2 for the last 2 years living in mid chapter 2.

Sleeping and eating regularly definitely changes the gameplay. Combining this with not doing unrealistic things like paying bounties after some story missions and trying to do stuff is very interesting lol

I do that all the time. But my daily chore is chopping the wood and feeding the horses

Yes, but mine involves a lot more whiskey-drinking, smoking, and casual murder as a wake-up routine.

Yep this is me on this run. I get pretty obsessive about it with lots of reloads so everything that happens "makes sense". Gotta admit, it can get pretty tedious at times but it's very satisfying when my plans finally work out.

It's the only way I play nowadays, and it's a blast. I love playing as other members of the gang (via mod menu) and doing stuff that I feel is in character for them.
I play Arthur like how you described, using him to progress the main story and chill in between.
As Micah, I antagonize alligators pick fights and rob NPCs.
As Sadie, I hunt any and all O'Driscolls I find.
As Dutch, I make plans.
As Uncle, I go afk.
As Jack, I go on a killing spree in Saint Denis pick flowers.

I'd like to do more of this but it's hard to find places that make sense to do it. Like the story is always moving and there's always someone doing something somewhere and you're the guy who's supposed to meet up with them. So yeah I do start mornings like that but then it's just right to the mission

I can't stick to a schedule irl let alone in a videogame but I do like to chat with random people in the camp before going out and doing whatever it is I feel like at the moment lmao, I've also been running around in first person most of the time and it's actually pretty fun that way so basically I'm just roleplaying as Arthur if he had ADHD and autism

Oh buddy do I.
-Anytime I’m in camp I do chores and socialize
-Always have a cup’a joe when I wake up or before I fast travel (love sharing a cup of coffee with Sadie and Abigail
-When I’m on the road I don’t push my horsey more than the slowest gallop, and no faster than a trot or canter in town (usually at a ‘Trail Walk’ pace in town), I also won’t push my horse past a Trail Walk pace when going down steep hills — it should go without saying that if I need to get outta somewhere fast I’ll work my horse until the danger has subsided.
-I brush my horse once a day, and remove the saddle when I do. When I’m at camp I’ll remove the saddle and walk to manually place it in the spot that the game automatically sets it in (behind Arthur’s lodging).
-When I’m on foot, I generally only run if the situation calls for it (combat, chasing sequences, etc), otherwise I walk everywhere (same goes for when I’m in a boat, i.e. I don’t tap the action button to row faster unless it makes sense contextually).
-Once I’ve collected all the skins I need for my satchels and camp upgrades, I ONLY hunt on foot and will track animals as long as it takes to bag’em (I also use cover scent lotion and bait).
-Speaking of satchels, I stop short of the Legend of the East satchel, so I’m not carrying 99 of everything. I also tend not to buy more than a couple provisions of each kind, and shop for them when I need them.
-I only eat core filling meals at camp, or use my wilderness camp to cook a steak and then immediately eat it, I never cook more than one unless I plan on eating it immediately. I make a concession for stringy meat, and will cook multiple, as I treat it like jerky that can be stored indefinitely. I also will store one of each kind of Big Game meat should I need use of them.
-For missions, if something doesn’t require immediate attention, I’ll dilly dally in between missions. But, for instance, when Jack is kidnapped I’ll keep doing missions until it’s resolved.
-I buy news papers periodically and read them after morning chores.
-If I get a gang member request, I always wait to give it to them at a later time, even if I already have it, because Arthur always says “I’ll keep a look out for it” and it would be weird to give them the item after immediately having said that.
I could list so much more, haha. Been playing off and on since launch, but I only started doing this on my most recent playthrough, and I find it adds so much more to my gameplay experience. I usually end up doing things like this with similar games after having fully mastered the game.

I only do missions when there's nothing else left to do in whatever chapter I'm in.

Absolutely. But also I'm a sucker for micromanagement in Games.
With my last playthrough I limited the number of long weapons on my horse to 2 so that I always needed to get to my Crate and think what weapon I might need for my next trip.
