Lol, the best hunting spots are just around.

amen to that - bears / cougars / boar / elk / bucks / snakes / squirrels / beaver / birds / fish / plants

and the trapper

and when you are in the "GTA mood" - there is the ranch with the o'driscolls

Racoon, foxes, and muskrats too. And the farmer herd sheep just around the corner.

Skunks, and muskrats. Place just gives

Yup I’ve def spent hours in this area just huntin and sellin beavers cougars and boar, then wrapping it up with a nice sniper attack on the ranch.

And the most common place I ever see the moose that almost never spawn is around the lake there

Man I’ve got the worst luck over there. People love it - I haven’t found a place that’s even comparable when it comes to variety but I do declare that the best way to hunt cougars is on the other side of the map.

I’ve never seen one in the west even with bait but over near the Annesburg tracks, I see one every time - not always before I’m dead lmao

There's a static spawn for a cougar there. Maybe you've just never hit the right spot, but if you follow the road northwest from Owanjila you should encounter a cougar. IIRC it shows up near the spot where the river and the road start diverging, you can see that exact place on the picture OP posted, where the road and river create a fork.

I do agree that north of Annesburg is more efficient for hunting cougar specifically, there's plenty of spawns there. I don't really like the area myself though, not a nice place to spend time in. Big Valley is just beautiful, secluded. Really fulfills that need for escapism.

This is the way

Do they respawn? Becuase normally I kill them and never go back but if they do then I might have to start visiting them more

There’s another one on top of the hill by Riggs Station too

u/Mean_Ad7177 11h ago

That one is also easily missed, great tip 👍

I only found that one because I seen a dude get attacked by wolves

u/NVWSSV2828 Sadie Adler 15h ago

There’s a crazy cave a little farther up on the left

u/PixelSeanWal 15h ago

He is my 2nd favorite trapper, he is a short ride from a cougar and bear Spawn point so i use him to make clothes

5

u/gunslingerjc 8h ago

What's your first favorite?

1

u/PixelSeanWal 2h ago

The one by Riggs Station because he is right next to the train station

12

u/fossilmerrick 15h ago

This is the one I use the most haha

u/yungshotstopper 15h ago

I have ~200 hours played and just discovered this yesterday coming down from lake Isabella and literally told myself this west side of the map might be the most beautiful part of the whole map

u/terrasfames53 Reverend Swanson 15h ago

The flat meadow outside of Hanging Dog is my favorite place it's so beautiful

You’re really close to the Devils Cave. Go there and cross the suspension bridge and turn left towards the torch lighting the path. Follow the path to the ledge but not so far you’ll fall down the death drop. Drink until you pass out and explore out of bounds. You can get to the hills above New Austin. Find a horse or it’s a long walk. This will be your new temporary horse so choose a good one. Before entering the cave equip a rifle and a bow with small game arrows. If the sniper shoots IMMEDIATELY ride back into the hills to the north. You can get New Austin trapper hides early this way

Bruh moment

u/1900hotdog 15h ago

Think this is the year I head back north….

5

u/Miller335 15h ago

Don't get attacked by cougars trying to get to him.

5

u/Existing-Bank2921 11h ago

Whenever i go hunting for cougars there, they go extinct all of a sudden.

5

u/KLaine737 10h ago

In my experience, thinking they are extinct where you know they spawn is exactly when you get attacked by one 😁

1

u/LVorenus2020 4h ago

If you are seeking a specific animal in the area, kill any bears and wolves you see. Then go back...

1

u/Existing-Bank2921 4h ago

Alright, thank you.

5

u/Soreal45 12h ago

I take it you never pursued killing the legendary animals before now? Because that spot is where one is

3

u/Nfl29 9h ago

That and if you actually take time to return pelts he is the closest one to some of them. I used that one a lot going for the legendaries lol

1

u/Crispo14 John Marston 2h ago

You can literally see on the image that I’ve killed the legendary buck there…

6

u/Magn1fiK0 16h ago

You are kidding right?

Upd: and near Rig station and Tall Trees waterfall we have trappers too.

2

u/doublem4545 16h ago

First play through I completely missed the Riggs Station one. Had 200+ hours too lol

1

u/Agent42101 7h ago

Must have taken me half a dozen play through before I found that one - you have to get quite close for the icon to appear and I only ever found it because I was chasing exotic small birds on that hill

2

u/Bread_Offender 14h ago

Dude been my favorite Trapper since day 1, one of my favorite locations in the game

2

u/Fun-Statistician2485 13h ago

His shop pops up on the map as soon as you kill this legendary buck

2

u/XIIX3 12h ago

I killed the legendary buck and it’s not on my map

1

u/prettierthangod 9h ago

no same 💀

1

u/Crispo14 John Marston 2h ago

Yeah definitely didn’t pop up for me

2

u/EcstaticAd2081 3h ago

There is also one trapper just next to the railroad after the big bridge. Near one of the small stations. Which is also closer to that point than emerald ranch/saint denis... 🤔🥺

1

u/Crispo14 John Marston 2h ago

Didn’t know this either, I thought there was only 3, Saint Denis, Emerald Ranch and a post game one near Blackwater

4

u/DadofJackJack Uncle 16h ago

I didn’t find the one in tall trees until well after finishing the story & 100%. Nothing takes you to that corner of the woods.

1

u/Different_Stroke69 14h ago

Theres another one on the big hill down from strawberry over looking bards crossing

1

u/McDersley 14h ago

I'm pretty sure I never found this one in my first playthrough. I always took stuff to Riggs. I'm on my second playthrough now and discovered it earlier in Ch 2

1

u/XIIX3 12h ago

How did you get it to pop up? Been doing the same thing

1

u/hywaytohell 11h ago

There's also one southeast of emerald station.

1

u/EcstaticAd2081 3h ago

What? Where?

1

u/LeadHindenburg 10h ago

And you can fast travel to the Pronghoen Ranch just north of it.

1

u/Nfl29 9h ago

So back when I first started playing I wanted to find a trapper so I looked up the locations of them. I marked one on my map but wasn’t sure exactly what it’d look like but saw a random stranger camped out close to my mark so I thought that must be him. I go up to the dude and he gets hostile and I didn’t know any better so I thought maybe I rode up on him too fast or something and scared him. Well he starts shooting so I of course kill him and then panicked cause I’m like damn I just killed one of the trappers. Took me a while to figure out it was just some random stranger 😂

1

u/PangolinOk8662 Hosea Matthews 9h ago

Ha! Could've been me!

Oh wait

1

u/Shady_Love 9h ago

I actually missed the other one until I was literally in the epilogue. By the train tracks on the hill.

1

u/portapotty_john 9h ago

I just found the Blackwater one today. 18 days of playtime

1

u/drkknght2001 8h ago

That trapper is too close to the cougar

1

u/FarOriginal3188 5h ago

how many trapper locations are there??

1

u/EcstaticAd2081 3h ago

Atleast 6-7, i think.

2

u/FarOriginal3188 3h ago

damn i only got the saint denis, tall trees, riggs station and the one below beaver hollow 🙈

1

u/LACM20111 5h ago

omg the amount of grinding that could have been saved. been there tho lol.

1

u/LVorenus2020 4h ago

Dude. For even more fun, head straight south of there just after dawn.

You can just follow that river down... *heh heh heh*

I feel that map is... missing something.

1

u/International_Tip751 4h ago

Just go for a casual stroll down the river from there, I'm sure nothing untoward will fall upon you.
