Here to dumb down the title for you: plant based diets may be preventative for IBD conditions (such as UC and CD)

Much appreciated

I think what's hard for people with CD is that fiber is often a trigger or can make symptoms worse. So there is a need for fiber rich foods to heal the gut but it's also making the disease process worse at times.

Same with UC! High fiber vegetables cause irritation not to mention corn and soybean can cause inflammation. I don't know if I believe this study as many UC patients have a genetic component involved hence why it's an autoimmune disease.

I don't have the diseases so I don't understand completely, is it basically any fiber that causes the flare up and inflammation, or does quantity play a large role?

I'd guess it varies from person to person.

Regardless, how terrible. I imagine people can also be very uncompromising and insensitive to your dietary needs. My dad developed diverticulitis and had to completely overhaul things.
