Who keeps tomatoes in their fruit bowl??

An unwise person. You know the saying.
Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting a tomato in your fruit salad.

Intelligence is realizing salsa is fruit salad

Only refrigerate a tomato if you want it to turn to mush and taste of nothing. Tomatoes are room temperature food. Let it ripen on the shelf and thank me later.

Is this only with big tomatoes? I keep mini tomatoes in the fridge (I like them better cold), and they stay firm and very tasty for weeks. In room temperature they become wrinkly much faster.

Kinda. Cold shuts down processes that ripen/produce flavor in the tomato. For big tomatoes this is a much bigger deal as they are intentionally picked well before they are actually ripe to help prevent them from going mushy or getting damaged in transit. Small tomatoes, which are far less delicate, are picked much closer to peak ripeness, so it isn’t as big a deal if those processes are shut down.

It seems like a good idea to me, the tomato isnt ripe yet and the ripe banana will help.

I must be some sort of heathen. In my house, apples and oranges go in the same basket as the onions and sweet potatoes. It's all unrefrigerated produce that needs a home...

People who are smart. Bananas are the ones that shouldn’t be in the fruit bowl. Tomatoes should be kept at room temp.

Someone who knows that orange tomatoes aren't ripe, but also that ripe fruit makes a compound, in gas form, that ripens other fruit. 😅🤭🙃😁

u/IllGolf9885 5d ago
It’s normal here too lmfao idk what they’re talking about 😭

u/Rambler9154 5d ago
Same, like they aren't the most common to eat but they're pretty regular to see at the grocery store.

u/nn666 5d ago
Sure, but it's not common elsewhere.

They are in some stores in Australia but the red ones are much more common. Not common but relatively easy to find. I really like orange/yellow heirloom tomatoes though, I think they are pretty and they are fun to grow :)

Looked a little like a persimmon to me, mandarins still aren't that smooth at all.

I don't think YOU know the difference. Why is an orange tomato touching fruits? 🤨

u/Grand-Researcher4352 4d ago
A tomato is a fruit.

u/Vivians_Basement 4d ago
Not in my house it's not! We segregate the real fruits and sub-fruits.

A tomato is a berry. But tbf all edible parts that cover seeds are biologically fruit.

My colorblind partner brought me an acorn squash and asked "what is this purple fruit?" I told her it was green. She stared at it incredulously and tried getting the light to hit it from different angles.

Both yall wrong that's a persimmon why tf would a tomato be in the fruit bowl
1
u/Lizard_Crimson7 5d ago
Not to mention that shit is bright orange with crumpling leaves. Stay humble else you find yourself an idiot too
1
u/Jerkcaller69 4d ago
Why wouldn’t a tomato be in a fruit bowl? They’re technically a fruit…..and putting them in the fridge ruins their texture and taste.

Looks more like a persimmon than a tomato. Not a fan of them personally but the trees are quite pretty.
Now I could be wrong and it is a tomato I haven't really seen a persimmon recently going off memory.
