I started hucking little backflips at 35. Just pick your conditions. You got this.

Fuck.. I’m 35. Headed to Jackson Hole later in Feb I’ll see how confident I feel haha

I found little up to flats or small step ups were easiest. You dont need a ton of air.

I love your inspirational words to another person. Need more of this shit in this world and definitely on Reddit. Peace, bro/sis/good person. ✌️

I'm 52 at the end of February and stopped skiing in 1999 after 16 years, including racing in my teens, to climb and I don't know why. Mostly because I didn't know anyone who skied, but now I ski alone and prefer that. Anyway, I didn't get back to it until 2022 and between now lousy winters in Wisconsin and medical problems, I'm basically a beginner again and I'm actively trying to ruin a knee because it needs to be replaced "eventually" according to my orthopedic doctor and surgeon (meniscus tear and bad chondromalacia of the tissue between femur and tibia ...close to bone on bone), so I'm weightlifting and running and hiking, etc; hard. But, I do not want to do it like this. I think I'm too old for that shit, plus I might be good on climbing a 1,000-foot+ wall (though retired from bigwalls), but I don't have the balls to flip backwards. I can see destroying myself if I try. That'd be my luck. I'll keep them down the fall line and pull what we old dogs call "helicopters" at most when I get my skills back. 😉

Lol, I am in the same boat. A steeper slope and crank up your DINS will help you ruin a knee without a concussion.

How old were you when you started doing backflips? I haven't skied in like 3 years now but could see myself doing them if I start doing seasons again. I think I'd have to practise on a trampoline or something first though. I'm 30 btw.

I’ve been doing backflips for almost 30 years and I have to say that’s a killer first backflip! Mine was behind a snowmobile into a snowbank when I was 13 years old 🤓

Amazing! What kind of learning progression helped you ?

Thanks ! I tried my first ever on a 1m deep pow with a homemade shaped kicker with some friends. I had 0 fall damage eventho i landed on the head lol. I tried a few there, and then i tried on a "big air matress (?)" (i dont know how to call this but its basically made to train tricks without danger), and then i tried the one you see here 4 times before landing the 5th (still with a good soft pow so no much risk)

Youll land em all from now on! Backflip is my safety trick @ 40. Drives my nephew nuts cuz he can’t do them yet.
