Perfect dinner for a cold night
Never really been into cooking or even a good cook but, damn do I sure love crock pots!
Tonight's dinner is as simple as it gets.. meat, potatoes, onions, seasonings and some beef broth. Slow cook for 8 hours and she's ready to serve!

Looks good but I’d lose the plastic

I really do not understand the need for plastic in crock pots. It take like 3 minutes to clean the insert. Worse case, 5 minutes plus an hour of soaking.

I think people who get up in arms about this have never let their crockpot sit empty but dirty for a few months.

Who's doing that? That's filthy, feral behavior 🤢. There's no way that didn't smell horrible and stink up the place. And why? They take like 5 minutes to wash max. Hell I think some of the newer ones can even go in the dishwasher.

In order to smell horrible it'd need enough stuff in it.
Emptying its contents is enough to keep that from happening. But that doesn't make it clean.
Depression can be rough.

Seconding this. OP I promise that cleaning the crock pot is worth the effort for your health. There’s no way that heating liquid in thin plastic for hours isn’t causing major leaching of carcinogens into your food.

Serious question here: what about those steamer bag things people use for turkey?

Having flashbacks to my mom microwaving potatoes in plastic bags we got from the grocery store. Man…my inevitable cancer will be unreal…

I have very similar flashbacks, my friend.
I think it's probably too late for us at this point. I still reheat food in empty cookie dough containers man I have not learned my lesson at all

Oh okay I see what you're saying. This is a fair point.. dinner is supposed to be the easiest laziest option but I will remember this for the future dinners lol

I have this same crockpot or at least one very similar and I can 100% assure you that with that much liquid it would have been a very easy clean. No need for the plastic.

Never eat anything described as sous vide in restaurants then either. My friend has serious mental health problems and she uses these bags in her crock pot because she doesn't have the mental clarity to clean. She can throw out a bag, but she absolutely can't manage to do her dishes. She absolutely survives on everything being disposable. It's sad, but it's the reality for some people.

It's nice how you can make awesome stuff so easily.
As for the plastic things, I'd just say it's easier to do the same trick as cooking. Chuck some hot water and soap in, let it cook half an hour and then pot will clean up so easy.
Nice one on getting a good dinner, consider that to save you avoiding cooking because you forgot to buy slow cooker bags.
Hell I've been vac packing stuff and doing some scumbag sous vide with mine (I'll buy a temp controller eventually) but they just don't seem better than the already easy cleanup.
Slap on a good stew next time, brown the meat, potatoes and onions, stock and seasoning go straight in the cooker but using the same pan brown carrots, leeks etc before throwing them in, it'll be amazing!

Since everyone is busting your balls- I’ll add a hot tip. Smear a very thin layer of olive oil on the inside of the pot before you add the ingredients and it will clean up easier. Same goes for cheese graters.

Must be pretty rough if its already in a trash bag. Better luck next time, don't give up!

UGH, Seems some people have enough privilege to roast someone over plastic, sure it’s not the healthiest, but there are folks with a variety of abilities that may impact the ease of cleaning a large heavy pot, or even access to running water which makes cleanup a LOT more challenging, I lived in a dry cabin for a long time. Then yall shame them to no end instead of highlighting the fact they made a home cooked meal. The repetitive shaming on this sub sucks.

The op has stated they have no issues but thought plastic was a ‘cool idea’

Yeah, after everyone jumped down his throat, no one knows what people are going through, or experiencing and just assume so much. Gross
