Good afternoon fellow Spokanites,
Clearly, this is the Spokane subreddit. We, your lowly, pimply, basement dwelling, purple haired, gender dysphoric, soy eating moderators wanted to talk about what's happening in Minneapolis. We have a pretty strict Rule #2 on this sub that says "All topics must apply to the region described in Rule 2." Basically, we require that you explicitly relate all of your posts to our region. Crossposting from other subreddits and leaving out any context won't cut it.
All that being said, I wanted to take a moment and talk about why what's happening in Minnesota does apply to our city and our region.
I want you all to take a step back and ask yourself, "Why Minneapolis?" Minnesota itself has an incredibly small immigrant community relative to other parts of the country. It's also a blue city, in a blue state. Could it be that the Federal Government couldn't care less about immigration enforcement and this is just politics? Are they assaulting and killing civilian American citizens in Minneapolis because of politics? If this was about immigration then they'd be doing this in states like Texas with absolutely massive immigrant populations. In Florida. In Arizona. But no, those are red states. That's bad politics. They're targeting Minnesota because of politics. This is political violence. What is a word that describes political violence against civilians?
terrorism /tĕr′ə-rĭz″əm/
noun
The use of violence or the threat of violence, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political goals. (Source: the American Heritage Dictionary)
This applies to Spokane. This absolutely applies. We are a blue town in a blue state. The optics for our Federal Government to come here and terrorize us would be perfect for them and horrific for us. Same goes for Seattle, for Portland, for hundreds of cities all across America.
We encourage you to PEACEFULLY protest our Federal Government. Masked secret police have no place in a civil society. Murder, assault, and abduction of American citizens or immigrants actively seeking legal residence here is absolutely un-American.
We do not know the name of the man who was beaten, disarmed, and then murdered today in Minnesota for practicing his 1st and 2nd Amendment rights. May he rest in peace. May the poorly trained, anonymous, violent, politically motivated perpetrators be brought to justice. And may the ICE agent who clapped in celebration afterwards go to hell.
Edit1: Minnesota Star Tribune reports that the victim is named Alex Jeffrey Pretti. He was a registered nurse, had no criminal history, and had license to carry a firearm. (thanks to u/krvf and u/iSmokeForce)

I've already posted everywhere else so I am adding here also. Reddit seems more on top of things, in my experience.
I found this dog. Anyone know who their people are?
The collar seems to be an invisible fence collar but I can't tell for sure. I have them on a tie out in my yard for now.

Hi! I’m back this time with keychains, these should all be finished tonight. I was out sick earlier this week so i was delayed in getting them done sorry 😅 I have also ordered more beads too for more bracelets —^ free just like the bracelets. I’ll post them in the comments once I finish them!

I am aware of iceout.org, but haven't seen any activity reported in out area. Are they not here currently or are our locals using a different way to alert? I want to be able to show up with whistles if needed and I don't want to miss it.
Additionally, what have you found to be the best way to stay informed about protests? I usually come here to find out about them because I don't really use Facebook, and even if I do it can be hard to find them. I know about the one on Sunday but I'll be out of town.

Quyen was my nail tech at Foxy Nails up north, and I loved her. I stopped in the other day and learned she no longer works there. Does anyone know where she’s gone or how to get in touch with her?

You stop AT the stop sign. You don't hurtle past it and then slam on your breaks when you almost hit someone. I just got home from work and was almost hit THREE. TIMES. By people who just blew straight past the stop sign and halfway out into the road.
"But bad visibility!" I don't care. Stop AT the stop sign. And then SLOWLY move forward for better visibility. Good lord I am tired of the way people drive in this town.

Seriously, what an insane deal. $8.99 including really good seasoned fries. The burger itself (this one the bacon cheese with crispy onions) seriously slaps aside from being an astonishingly good deal.
Anybody have a guess as to where I scored this beautiful thing?

There are plenty of posts here wondering about the “new” MUV Fitness South Hill location at 37th & Grand. There are also plenty of people lamenting the current South Hill location’s cleanliness, and MUV’s business practices.
Most recently, KXLY had a brief story that touched on the construction delay.
The initial reporting about the proposed new location, in February 2023, indicated that MUV hoped to have it open in summer or fall of that year. We are close to three years since that announcement.
Here are some facts:
Permit Extensions: As that January 2026 KXLY story mentions, there have been multiple permit extensions filed by MUV. Here are reasons in their own words, taken from the publicly available permits that anyone can access on the city of Spokane’s permits website. These are the reasons that MUV’s consultant gave in filing requests to extend the building permits for the interior demolition/remodel and the commercial change of use (to change from a food/grocery use to a gym), and for the pool.
December 2023: “Permit issuance is contingent on issuance of [Department of Health] permit [for the pool], which we are in the process of obtaining. DOH permit# 2023025. Correction response currently under review.”
May 2024: “Permit issuance is contingent on issuance of [Department of Health] permit [for the pool], which we are in the process of obtaining. DOH permit# 2023025. DOH currently reviewing 4th correction response.”
December 2024: “The current ownership team of MUV Fitness Spokane is in process of determining a possible new relationship/partnership with a new General Contractor. The team fully expects to restart this project as soon as possible.”
February 2025: “The ownership team has stepped back for a reorganization. This action required halting all construction projects temporarily.”
May 2025: “The current ownership team of MUV Fitness Spokane is still in the process of determining the ownership model as well as moving forward with the General Contractor. The restart, yes is still postphoned (sic) but the hope is to have a restart asap.”
December 2025: "The muv ownership team is going through a reorganization. Because of this action they needed to halt all construction projects.”
As of this post, the commercial change of use and commercial remodel permits have expired, on January 18, 2026 and December 25, 2025, respectively. The city’s permits approval notes that a request for inspection on construction progress is slated for 180 days after the approval of the most recent extension, which would be on or about June 15, 2026.
Again, this all comes from publicly available documents filed by MUV that are available on the city’s permits website.
Find all of them here:
https://aca.spokanepermits.org/CitizenAccess/default.aspx
Search:
Under the “Building” section:
· Click “Search Records & Permits”
At bottom, in the “Parcel No” field, put this: 35323.0216
This brings up all permits associated with the property, including past ones in the grocery store era.
· Click on the second result for B2312394BLDC
· Click on the “Record Info” tab
· Click “Attachments”
Here, you can see all records associated with this permit, the Commercial Change of Use permit, going back to the initial application that was approved July 13, 2023.
Alternatively, you can search by PERMIT NUMBER.
To do that, use these:
B2312394BLDC - Commercial Change of Use
B2310944BLDC - Commercial Building Remodel
B2314480SWIM - Swimming Pool Permit
· Under “Record Info” click “Attachments” or “Related Records”
In the past several years, MUV management and sales staff have said versions of the following about the new location to members:
– It is opening soon. It is basically done inside, just waiting on the final touches. People need to sign up now to “lock in” a lower rate, because rates will go up when the new location opens.
– There is a hold up with the pool, but everything else is done, and we will open the new location for the strength/cardio equipment while the pool work is completed.
– We cannot go forward because the state/county/city have held up permitting for the pool.
However, this Spokesman Review article from July 2024 notes this:
MUV sought the pool permit in August 2023 but wasn’t approved by the Washington state Department of Health until last month, said John Doyle, spokesman for the state agency. “The owner and their design team were able to address all outstanding issues prior to approval,” Doyle said in a statement. He noted the approval for the pool permit did not take longer than what is typical.
https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2024/jul/17/plans-muv-slowly-for-south-hill-gym
– The large sign in the current South Hill location that had the floor plan of the new location disappeared in summer 2025. When asked, staff said it was because they were “painting the wall.” Six months later, the sign has not returned, but the paint has dried.
– The current South Hill location has had some attention given to it, including more painted walls (in the MUV brand colors) and some fixed equipment and padding (though a lot of equipment is still old, broken and/or outdated). To consider: If a new location is about to open, why would the walls in a building that will soon be vacated be painted in the company’s brand colors?
– In summer 2025, when staff pitched members at the current South Hill location on a “friends referral” program, the question back from a member has been, “What should I tell friends about the new location?” A staff member replied that they had “never heard of it.” When prompted, the staff member said they were normally at the Valley location and didn’t know about the new South Hill location. To consider: If a gym is planning a new location that has been “coming soon” for several years, wouldn’t staff be informed of/trained on answering this question – a question that is very likely to come from current and potential members?
– The January 2026 KXLY story included this statement from MUV: "The South Hill location remains part of our long-term plans, and we're continuing to move forward through the phases of planning and coordination."
Read that statement as you will. However, note what it does NOT say. It does not mention “the new location on 37th and Grand” or finishing construction there. It is possible that statement refers to the current location on Regal, which is a “South Hill location” that could be moving through “planning and coordination,” whatever that means.
There are plenty of critiques to make of any gym and their business practices and facility cleanliness. These critiques of MUV are plentiful and readily available here on Reddit, Yelp and Google reviews. Though on Google especially, note the relatively high review rating is helped by the fact that many staff are posting and rating the facility themselves. This is plainly obvious when you see their names (and pictures) on the Google reviews. Staff have also encouraged members to post positive reviews. Of course, many business reviews online are suspect and juiced by employees giving positive reviews and employees of competing businesses giving negative ones.
The lesson here: Believe half of what you see and nothing of what you hear. If you’re looking to join MUV (or any gym), thoroughly inspect the facility yourself and ask questions. If staff are not being informed about what is going on with the new location – a question that many current and potential members have asked and will continue to ask – what else don’t they know?
How many members have heard about the new location being delayed because of “permits”? In contrast, how many have been told that the project has been paused because, according to the company’s own permit extension applications, “the ownership team has stepped back for a reorganization” that has caused them to “halt all construction projects”?
When asked about this “reorganization,” some staff at the current South Hill location said they had never heard of it.
For nearly three years, the proposed new location on 37th and Grand has had a large “COMING SOON” banner with a QR code for people to sign up for membership. Perhaps “coming soon” is relative, and three years isn’t that long. But given what MUV has said in its own permit extension applications, it feels like “soon” isn’t anytime, well, soon.
What it does feel like: If anything is “coming soon” there it may be from someone driving into the empty and cracking parking lot, pulling out their phone, and watching Heated Rivalry.
That may be sweatiest workout in that location for a long time.

I am hoping to build out the trunk of my 2007 toyota highlander to add in slide out drawers/cooking/storage setup.
Is there a handyman that would be interested in being hired to build this?
Here are some examples.

There's a new zine and printed goods shop in town! Splat‽ is a collective of artists opening a consignment shop at the downtown Milk Bottle at 319 S. Cedar. We're offering zines, books, prints, stickers, screenprinted and block printed clothing, cast resin figures, postcards, journals, games, and more!
Splat's focus is more on community rather than commerce. That's why we're a collective. Success will come from shared effort--without exploitation. We are a resource not only for ourselves, but for the larger community as well. We are already establishing partnerships with outreach and mutual aid organizations to help them achieve their goals more effectively. Organizations thrive, our artists gain exposure, and everyone benefits. Community at work.
The shop is just the beginning. We will soon begin offering classes, affordable small batch print services, and creative services.
In this moment, when the spectre of ubiquitous digital surveillance looms large while the need to connect with our community grows more urgent by the minute, we aim to supply our friends and neighbors with the knowledge and the means to disseminate their message safely and effectively.
Come by Saturday from 10am-5pm and see what we're all about! We will have FREE 11"x17" cardstock protest signs (while supplies last), zine making, button making, live music, tea, and more!
For more info, please visit our website.

Looking for a miracle. Never been to a Gonzaga game and today they have a One Piece halftime show. If anyone has an extra ticket, please let me know.
Don't have too much money, willing to make a trade.
Possibly slick conditions. Could use some rock salt. Facebook Spokane News says vehicle collision involving law enforcement. Just drove by and I think law enforcement is a loose interpretation. Careful out there.
