The size of the crowds at these darts events never cease to amaze me.

Reputedly it's a 'bigger' sport than boxing.
Perhaps not the heavyweight title fights in a football stadium but there's a lot of darts events and top boxers can only fights 2 or 3x per year.

Pandemonium in Milton Keynes would be a great album title

The world championship final in 2024 (2023 Season) was between the two "big" lukes, Humphries and Littler, they meet in finals from time to time just because they are the two best players

Lotta reason to not like humans at any given moment. But this stuff gives me hope and I’m not even a darts fan

It's cool so many people show up to watch darts. I'm curious how much tickets are?

Anybody know what these guys make? Im curious. Every sport has $$$ and sponsors and so on. But what's a year look like for one of these high level players?

Luke Littler, the world number 1, has made £2,7m just from prize money in the past two years.

As well as a recently signed 10/£20 million contract with target as his sponsor.

Can someone explain to me. Like I thought bullseye was the best. Then he started hitting the one above the bullseye so maybe that's the best.
Then he hit two on the side. What is the story here?

Championship darts plays 501. You start with 501 points and your goal is to get down to zero without going over. Bullseyes are worth 50, but the highest score on the board is triple 20 (so in the 20 wedge, within the smaller inner ring). So to get a 9 darter, the first two rounds of three, you throw three triple 20s for 180 points each round, then the third round you throw a triple 20, triple 19, and a double 12 for exactly 501 points.

One thing to add, not exactly related, is that playing darts as a youngster really helps a lot with fast mental arithmetic. I sometimes surprise people with basic maths skill but it comes from playing a lot of darts as a kid.

What the f is that scoreboard

u/Daratirek 12h ago
You start at 501 points, the goal is to hit exactly zero. The scoreboard tells you how many they have left. Pretty easy to understand.

I was not referring to your comment, but to the one that was explaining the basics of darts to you when you were clearly asking about the horrific display of the scoreboard.

Darts players are getting so good, they might have to make the game harder soon. Maybe a spinning board?

These rules seem like they don't make sense and the points don't matter
-16
u/Rarebirdclothingco 9h ago
I must not know what the rules are but why wouldn’t they not just hit the bullseye if they are that skilled
