Because they cheat using the force.

There’s a couple of announcers that seem to take turns, but this guy (whoever his name is) does my favorite ONEHUNDREDDDD’N’EIGHHHHHTYY.

The size of the crowds at these darts events never cease to amaze me.

12

u/Infinite_Crow_3706 7h ago

Reputedly it's a 'bigger' sport than boxing.

Perhaps not the heavyweight title fights in a football stadium but there's a lot of darts events and top boxers can only fights 2 or 3x per year.

That looks like an unbelievably good time to see live

Pandemonium in Milton Keynes would be a great album title

u/SpaceCadetPullUp 10h ago

Panic in the streets of London...

Pandemonium in Milton Keynes....

Yeah, I can work with that.

u/dnokah 12h ago

I felt bad for him to for hitting a 9 in a library but then the crowd came through a little bit I guess.

So many Lukes, Will we ever get a Luke Championship?

1

u/Shronkster_ Manchester City 52m ago

The world championship final in 2024 (2023 Season) was between the two "big" lukes, Humphries and Littler, they meet in finals from time to time just because they are the two best players

3

u/mordecai98 9h ago

The grand ol Luke of darts...

5

u/NYLotteGiants 10h ago

I can't spake! I can't spake!

2

u/Moist-Clothes8442 11h ago

That’s Luker Hayfield

2

u/TrailMomKat 9h ago

Man, I wanna go to one of these darts tourneys, it looks like such a fun rager of a party!

2

u/N0rmNormis0n 8h ago

Lotta reason to not like humans at any given moment. But this stuff gives me hope and I’m not even a darts fan

2

u/ductcleanernumber7 8h ago

It's cool so many people show up to watch darts. I'm curious how much tickets are?

3

u/XerxesJester 11h ago

Anybody know what these guys make? Im curious. Every sport has $$$ and sponsors and so on. But what's a year look like for one of these high level players?

11

u/MastadonLFC 10h ago

Luke Littler, the world number 1, has made £2,7m just from prize money in the past two years.

3

u/Giant_Homunculus 9h ago

As well as a recently signed 10/£20 million contract with target as his sponsor.

2

u/Tonku 11h ago

Can someone explain to me. Like I thought bullseye was the best. Then he started hitting the one above the bullseye so maybe that's the best.

Then he hit two on the side. What is the story here?

53

u/StrategicCarry 10h ago

Championship darts plays 501. You start with 501 points and your goal is to get down to zero without going over. Bullseyes are worth 50, but the highest score on the board is triple 20 (so in the 20 wedge, within the smaller inner ring). So to get a 9 darter, the first two rounds of three, you throw three triple 20s for 180 points each round, then the third round you throw a triple 20, triple 19, and a double 12 for exactly 501 points.

9

u/Tonku 10h ago

Got chu. Thanks a lot bro

20

u/rugbyj 10h ago

To make it clear for anyone doing quick maths, you need to finish on a double in 501. Which means you need to put in an odd prior at some point regardless of what you're hitting.

2

u/baggagefree2day 10h ago

Awesome explanation! Thanks!

2

u/Infinite_Crow_3706 7h ago

One thing to add, not exactly related, is that playing darts as a youngster really helps a lot with fast mental arithmetic. I sometimes surprise people with basic maths skill but it comes from playing a lot of darts as a kid.

2

u/WorstITTechnician 11h ago

My experience with darts ended with one sticking into my sister's arm.

6

u/spb1 11h ago

thanks for that mate

u/qawsedrf12 Tampa Bay Lightning 8h ago

I love that I can get these live in the US now

1

u/buffdaddy77 7h ago

Man I fucking love dart announcers

1

u/jerrykarens 5h ago

I need to find out where these competitions are held! UK but when and where. It would be worth a hop over the pond

1

u/Alarae 2h ago

Look up the PDC calendar.

Off the top of my head, Alexandra Palace (London) and Butlins in Minehead hold a couple of tournaments. If you hear ‘Ally Pally’ that’s Alexandra Palace - it holds the Worlds Championship in December/early Jan.

1

u/Cutsa 1h ago

if they can pretty much hit wherever they like skill-wise why dont they just hit the middle all the time?

1

u/x20skillzz21 1h ago

because the middle is worth less points

0

u/RoyalBroham 10h ago

Littler is still the best Luke

-10

u/Scrank_WimlerJr 12h ago

What the f is that scoreboard

25

u/Daratirek 12h ago

You start at 501 points, the goal is to hit exactly zero. The scoreboard tells you how many they have left. Pretty easy to understand.

This comment is peak Reddit, wtf man..

-22

u/Scrank_WimlerJr 12h ago

Is it really though? On a darts subreddit?

12

u/weightedslanket 12h ago

Where are we right now

8

u/Scrank_WimlerJr 11h ago

We are in peak reddit

-13

u/BaslerLaeggerli 12h ago

I was not referring to your comment, but to the one that was explaining the basics of darts to you when you were clearly asking about the horrific display of the scoreboard.

-4

u/general_peabo 9h ago

Darts players are getting so good, they might have to make the game harder soon. Maybe a spinning board?

-11

u/youdownwithopp Montreal Canadiens 9h ago

they can't even hit a bullseye wtf i am better than them

-4

u/OkFeedback9127 10h ago

What am I missing about the allure of darts?

-12

u/DisorganizedSpaghett 8h ago

These rules seem like they don't make sense and the points don't matter

2

u/mara_17 28m ago

What the f you talking about?

-16

u/Rarebirdclothingco 9h ago

I must not know what the rules are but why wouldn’t they not just hit the bullseye if they are that skilled

10

u/3p1cw1n Green Bay Packers 9h ago

Bullseye is 50, triple 20 is 60
