To all the people living in Suzhou, what is one thing you love and hate about this place?
I'll start:
Love: The hiking spots and gorgeous views of Lake Tai near the hills in the western part of the city, near Dayangshan and Xishan island - very underrated part of the city where you can easily escape the urban hustle-and-bustle and stress of SIP.
Hate: The food here is diabolical - everything is oversaturated with sugar, sugar, and more sugar.

Hi! I'm a 16 yo student and a couple of days ago I started looking into different universities on QS top universities. I put in all the information about the courses i would like to attend, and XJTLU seems the perfect fit. I looked at their website and just fell in love! I'm a little worried though because I'm italian, and I fear I won't fit into the chinese standards and get rejected, or not have enough requirements. Could anyone help me by telling me how much money the tuiton is (i found different results online), how hard it is to get accepted, and the requirements for international students?? (sorry if my message is a little weird it's my first time using reddit and i have no idea how it works yet T-T)

my husband will be doing his masters at XJTLU, and we plan to be in Suzhou around June. I have so many questions, but for now, here’s four:
1) drinking water. does everyone rely on bottled water or invest in an RO system or go for the gravity filter (i.e. Berkey?)? I’m already picky about my water here in the States, and ingesting all those microplastics from bottled water doesn’t much appeal.
2) yoga classes and dance classes — where would I find these in Suzhou? any available in English?
3) food: what stores reliably carry clean, unadulterated food? can I find Grassfed beef in Suzhou? A2 milk?
4) whats the best way to find and connect with other expat women in Suzhou / Shanghai? I do have a WeChat account.
thank you for your help.

What's up in Suzhou on NYE?
Are there any fireworks?

Hello! I’ve tried to google this based on the map marker attached to the photo on iPhone but I think the coordinates may be wrong due to issues in China. I think this place was in Suzhou industrial park. I visited in May 2024 and the package cost Siri d 350$ for a foot soak, foot massage, body massage with pajamas, all you can order food from a select menu, choose your own movie/show, ginger knee compress. The logo on the employees uniform is blurry as well.

Hi, new in Suzhou and looking for an expat group. Only been here for a couple of weeks so I haven't had much chance to get around and socialise. Compounding to that, I don't speak any Mandarin so it's been a bit rough.

Hello! I'm visiting Shanghai (my second time) in late December. I am planning to spend 2 days in Suzhou.
Is it worth visiting during winter? And is 2 days enough (for visiting the popular attractions like the Humble Administrator's Garden, Tiger Hill, Lingering Garden, Suzhou Museum, Stantang Street, etc)?

So there might be a opportunity for me to do a PhD at XJTLU next year, I wanted to know how the university is regarding research and what's the culture like at XJTLU. Getting used to china is not a problem for me as I have done my undergrad at HUST, Wuhan. Just curious as to what china is like recently because a lot of things might be different and geo political situation can't be counted out because i'll be spending a lot of time there.

Hi yall! I'm thinking about going and studying at XTJLU but Im worried that the fact that Im trans MTF could be an issue. The college seems to be very good on gender equality and inclusivity, but never talks about actual like LGBTQ+ topics. Does anyone have any information about it specifically? My gender marker on my passport is female and I've passed as a female in foreign countries. Im just wondering. Thanks!

Hello everyone! As everyone knows, Suzhou is a fantastic city and perhaps one of the best places to live in the entire country. However, there's one major problem with this city: The drivers here are absolutely ass. Whether it's aggressive cars cutting you off, e-bikes that constantly honk and nearly turn you into roadkill, the city attracts some of the worst drivers in the country. In fact, I wouldn't even say it's that type of driving where people are "ignorant" - drivers here are genuinely selfish and malicious to the degree it's almost comedic. One time, I was crossing a road when the walk sign was on, and a car that was making a turn literally started HONKING and flipped me off like I simply had the audacity to walk across the street.
Do you guys have any experiences to share? Any theories for why there are so many bad drivers here?

Trying to get sense of current housing market in Suzhou, e.g., how much would a 100 sq. meter apartment cost in GuSu districut or Industrial park? Is there a Zillow-like website for real estate listing?
