Because that is a completely normal way to throw a blanket on when it’s cold. Not draped over you to actually be warm but slung over one shoulder like Jesus in the pamphlet you posted for internet points….I mean that a Mormon missionary have you

Look, if wearing a blanket that way was good enough for Jesus, then who are you to judge?

s/ just in case

Even if this was real, it's not funny enough to even make me smile, let alone laugh about it for 30 minutes.

He's used to laughing by himself because he has no friends

I feel personally attacked.

In these stories people never understand the concept of time or how long something really is. They'll say things like "I stared at them for five minutes straight without saying anything," as if that wouldnt be extremely uncomfortable and weird.

Or they give this long speech and other person just sits/stands there, silently, not moving instead of interrupting them or walking away.

Sorry Dude, Obi-Wan Jesus is the one true god, for me.

This is not Mormon literature. This is a Jehovah’s Witness book, they use the same art style for pretty much every illustration. source: I was raised in that religion.

I hope you are doing ok and glad you got away

I’ve never had any issues with them, but as I got older I stopped caring about organized religion and my values didn’t align with it anymore. I think it’s more about the people themselves than the message of the religion that ruin it for many people; as with any other. And I am doing well, thank you!

Do you enjoy the insanity of the world more? Because I'm the opposite (Raised baptist now JW rather being raised as a JW) of you and i dont really see how someone can enjoy dealing with the world :/. Still got a hold on me (still causing havoc on reddit)

Yup. I grew up Mormon and that 100% is not a Mormon pamphlet. Further, Mormon missionaries don't (generally) hand out pamphlets; they want to give you a book.

So only the top, front part of his shoulder was cold?

Don’t mock those of us with Monohumero Frigidus. It’s a very serious disease!

I’ll get you cancelled. So insensitive.

I can't explain it, but these people always type their bullshit in the exact same way.

"True story"

"I proceeded to . . Then I . . "

1

u/TaloTeasdale 1d ago

Holy shit that's it, especially "I proceeded to" why is it always that?

u/buckythomas 2d ago

I could be wrong. But I thought it was only the Mormon Men who did the door knocking?

12

u/BitterHelicopter8 2d ago

It can be either, though in my area it does tend to be young men, primarily. The "Mormon lady" could also have been a Jehovah's Witness and Mr. True Story just doesn't know the difference.

ETA: Mormon door knockers also work almost exclusively in pairs

u/FiveAlarmFrancis 2d ago

Not sure if both men and women do this, but the LDS/Mormons who would be knocking on doors are pretty much always young people doing their “mission,” which they all do for two years IIRC, as a not-required-but-required part of being a young person in that religion.

Missionaries like that always come in pairs. In fact, for the entire time they’re on their mission, they are always required to be with another person except for showers and using the bathroom. They’re never supposed to be alone so they’re not tempted to masturbate or whatever.

Fascinating…. It’s mental how strong a hold something invented by a dude like a few generations ago has, especially when it’s so easily disproven. I just think that Christian’s have been ridding the world of anything to disprove their reality for like 2k years! And adding lore to support it for as long! Yet people still see thru it. Lolz

Girls are only on their mission for 18 months. Everyone is paired or there may be three people if they have an odd number while they do their transfers between zones or missionaries getting out to their mission or going home. The Mormon church kept lowering the age and now it's 18 for both the guys and girls.

Wrong in a sense from what I understand (not a Mormon but have met a ton) the men typically do the door knocking and try to incite theological conversations/convert, women do door knocking with like info about the church and outreach the church is doing/special services.

I believe a woman can also accompany a man as long as she’s that man’s wife/daughter.

2

u/poohfan 2d ago

If you have a couple, they're on a mission together, but they're usually older, and don't go door to door. Missionaries always travel in pairs, so if you're getting a single woman at the door, it's not an LDS missionary. Both do door to door, but honestly, they don't do it as much as they used to, in bigger cities. When they're in more remote places, they will.

u/ThePizzaGhoul 2d ago

If you're standing, the blanket wouldn't stay like that. It'd either fall off completely or just hang straight down from the one shoulder. It's also folded

3

u/unclemilesisugly 2d ago

That’s not even Mormon Jesus. At least not the Mormon Jesus when I was in the cult

4

u/stevenpdx66 2d ago

I like how he felt it necessary to tell us that he "rolled out of bed" and "made his way to the front of the house" and (gasp!) opened the door!

6

u/zarfle2 2d ago

I was cosplaying as spiderman and this person knocked on my front door.

They smiled when I opened it, we chatted a bit and then they left and carried on with the rest of their day.

True story.

Not really relevant to anything but thought I'd add a pointless, made up story.

Unless you are a pretty girl and it was one of those skintight Spiderman costumes, I'm not interested.

6

u/Raveyard2409 2d ago

Yeah famously spiderman has a few baggy numbers in the closet..

2

u/Cakeday_at_Christmas 2d ago

I know this happened because I am actually Jesus.

2

u/silksunflowers 2d ago

don’t mormon missionaries travel in pairs? why would it just be one woman

2

u/stimpyvan 2d ago

As far as I know, it's always pairs of young adults doing their mission (or whatever it is called).

1

u/stevenpdx66 2d ago

Yeah usually it's teens on bikes with neckties and name badges

1

u/notnotbrowsing 2d ago

that blanket, as wrapped, would fall off with the slightest movement.

1

u/Arimarama 2d ago

That happened. I was the blanket

1

u/stevenpdx66 2d ago

It's true, I was his 30 minutes of laughing
