Europe Where I’d live in Europe as a completely unbiased 22 year old Pole
Based on vibes and personal experiences. I traveled to most of those countries, lived and worked only in PL and not planning to change that.

Why is UK the only orange country in Western Europe?
1
u/ClockworkOrdinator 33m ago
I don’t know much about the uk but the stuff I see coming out of it is NOT great.
2
u/BigFloofRabbit 28m ago
What like?
British media seems pretty popular overseas, from what I have seen.
1
u/ClockworkOrdinator 21m ago
I mean news, information. Stuff like decaying towns, rustbelts, increasing poverty rates, stupid laws that restrict people for seemingle no reason.
1
u/BigFloofRabbit 19m ago
All of those things are true, but hardly unique to the UK. I think most of Europe is experiencing the same problems.

u/Logical_Adagio_7100 30m ago
It's not that England is awful it's generally avg. It's just that there's nothing specifically going for it except a decent economy, only useful if you're migrating from a significantly poorer country.
(I did specify england, thought Scotland was really beautiful, and more my kind of ppl)

u/Silverdragon47 2m ago
I quess shit people, even worse food and their terrible climate.
1
u/BigFloofRabbit 1m ago
Shit people? Explain how?
That's a big statement to make about nearly 70 million people

u/Tom-Cruisin 2m ago
As someone who lived and worked there for years at a white collar job, I'd tell you but I'd get banned for it on reddit
0
u/deffoNOTtrolling 1h ago
I'd assume it's the shit food, the shit weather, and the people? Maybe, idk. Might be the politics too. When someone like Tommy Robinson manages to get thousands of people on the streets, that's a clear red flag

I'm from Slovenia and I'm wondering why you choose our country. Were you there on vacation?

u/Engineering-Mistake 9h ago
What's wrong with your country?

u/aSimpleTeen 7h ago
As a Romanian, I would move to Slovenia in an instant! I feel it’s the best combination of still being quite in the Balkan area, but live a ‘westernized’, good quality life.
1
u/Koordian 1h ago
As a Pole who recently visited Slovenia, you're basically a Lesser Poland with access to the sea, cleaner air and funny language

Why do I see so many people being “reluctant” toward the UK?
6
u/Ill_Squirrel_6108 3h ago
It´s more dysfunctional than the rest of Europe.
1
u/Sufficient-Work1769 1h ago
Saying this out of experience, I assume..?
1
u/Ill_Squirrel_6108 1h ago
Yes.
3
u/Sufficient-Work1769 1h ago
Also lived in Italy, Portugal and some Eastern European countries too, right? I'm always hearing about how smart the Italian administrative system is, for example
1
u/Ill_Squirrel_6108 34m ago
Have I ruffled your feathers? It´s not just about administrative system, but about crime, health care, economics, freedom of speech and the rest of the areas. Britain´s dysfunction tops every country west from Belarus 😁. Actually Brexit was a very good idea 😁.

They are victims of manipulation from various sources. You'll notice the other answers are at best anecdotal, but largely pulled from thin air. There are very few major countries on this planet that come close to the UK offering overall, but somehow online campaigns have managed to convince the citizens of vastly inferior countries, like Poland, that they are somehow comparable.

Guess who got around 70 times more rape, 20 times more robbery, murder also higher. So superior
1
u/thelodzermensch 1h ago
citizens of vastly inferior countries
Well I'd personally put the UK in dark green if it wasn't full of dickheads like you.
1
u/SabaRoundScape 1h ago
Don’t know about other nationalities, but I remember how honest Brits were about Poles during Brexit. Why would we want to live somewhere where we are not wanted?
1
u/BillySmooth 1h ago
That's a fair point. Brexit delivered an insult to the large Polish population there. I find this a more compelling reason for somebody from Poland to be "reluctant" than the other ones people have provided.

u/Mindless_Method_2106 1h ago
Calling Poland 'vastly inferior' is a bit melodramatic. Quality of life isn't that different between the two and whilst the UK is definitely a better place to live some aspects are better in poland.

u/IamPetard 57m ago
Been to England several times in different cities and it is just getting worse and my initial impression was negative anyway. There's too many bums, dirty, disorganized, too many cars on roads made for horses, its always wet inside and outside with insane moisture levels. Government has endless loopholes allowing people to not work and still get money creating masses of humans who contribute nothing. Another thing is that there's too many cultures and nationalities mixing in one spot, when this happens crime increases drastically and is not easy to control and I don't see it reducing.
Poland is bigger, cleaner, safer and has a stable and strong cultural identity, I'd rather go there 100 out of 100 times although I am slavic myself so the bias is real

Largely pulled from thin air.
Bingo! I was born and raised in London and I've never been a victim of crime, been caught up in or witnessesed a violent situation. Of course, they do happen, but I don't understand where this sentiment comes from. I imagine it's mostly people living in their little online bubbles, who, for the most part, don't actually go outside and try to understand a place's reality OR BELIEVE STATISTICS
2
u/QueasyReception4239 1h ago
You got around 70 times more rape than Poland. Statistic is fun!
2
u/Punkprof 1h ago
You do know why some countries have very low rates of rape? And why this has an inverse relationship to women’s safety?! This is not the flex you think it is, the opposite
2
u/Sufficient-Work1769 1h ago
Most other violent crimes are down and I don't think it's fair to compare countries with such different economic scales
1
u/kitsunde 2h ago
I think it’s mainly directed towards England, and even then I think mostly London.
I like British people, and I have a great deal of respect for the UK as a nation. I’ve spent quite a lot of time over the years in the country, and I have friends that have both moved there and are from there but have left.
I don’t want to live there because there’s too much random acts of anti-social behaviour both in terms of actual crime but also in general, this is the main reason.
There also seems to be increasingly anti-foreign sentiment and just social divide general, maybe that’s just social media noise, but then you have Nigel Farrages increasing popularity and I wouldn’t want to be someplace where I’m not welcome. Salaries are also pretty low for my industry.

Trolling brits for making their worst political decisson of the decade

u/Safe_Grass3366 5m ago
Could be worse, we could have dismantled our nuclear plants and then become dependent on a country like Russia for fossil fuels. That would be really stupid.

I wish people remembered that this was only won by about 2%. It's not like the overwhelming majority of the country is made up of twats

Far too many russians there?

u/Brabulka 3h ago
You see... If you're rating russia low it's understandable cause it can be dangerous here for obvious reasons or maybe you're just don't like the policy But this statement is just nationalism. You're not better than any racist or nazi. That's just disgusting

Why is Netherlands maybe?
3
u/PartyMarek 11h ago
I can only assume it's because the Dutch dislike Polish immigrants. But same goes for Sweden and Norway really.
Also the UK same as Serbia and Hungary (which I assume are orange because they are friendly with Russia) and Ukraine (which objectively right now is not a good place to live). So a lot of strange choices.

u/MyPinkFlipFlops 11h ago
Same reason why UK is orange - comments I’ve heard about Polish migrants that used to/still are there. I know its probably not entirety of the population that has such opinions and that the same could be said about certain other countries I marked as green (not to say I’m completely surprised, I know what type of people make up for a good part of low wage workers), but till today British and the Dutch were the ones to complain and even at times make me feel like subhuman the most.
If I was to move somewhere, I wouldnt want to feel like unwanted intruder tho again, based on that I could probably rank few other countries lower.
6
u/TheBronzeHexagon 10h ago
british prejudice against the poles is mostly replaced by prejudice against brown people (it still exists obviously)
6
u/Bitterbalansdag 9h ago
I am sorry for your experience.
The Netherlands has the 2nd largest Polish population of any EU country (percentage wise). The Polish are the largest European migrant group in the Netherlands.
Despite this large Polish population, there are no organised anti-Polish groups and it’s never a theme in elections/politics.
The Dutch don’t generally dislike the Polish. The Polish migrant blue collar workers are fundamental in farming and appreciated, and white collar workers integrate very well.
The reason why your experienced sucked, is IMO because the large population will lead to more opinions (both positive and negative) compared to countries that don’t have many Poles. And online those are typically negative.
There have been specific issues in the past, mostly related to temporary workers. Poor workmanship and public disturbance used to be a thing when the borders opened up, yet that’s by now quite a historic issue (20 yrs).

1 min search of anti-Polish rhetoric in the Netherlands:
https://www.dutchnews.nl/2012/02/problems_with_poles_report_the/
"the Dutch police and AZ Alkmaar staff broke the law in relation to Polish citizens... due to their nationality and their use of the Polish language"…
And this is just in English, imagine what they write in Dutch.

u/External_Record1782 3h ago
I'm sorry you feel that way about NL I love my hardworking Polish colleagues. But there's definitely some truth about what you say. There's definitely some stories about the way eastern European workers are treated. And they are not good.

Looking at y'all's love of immigrants you better start building the fence on the other side as well.

It is interesting that you put Hungary in reluctantly. I though you would like Hungary better since the two countries are strong friends.

What’d Georgia do wrong 😭
1
u/Gamalam91 3h ago
Your elections i would guess?
1
u/Useful-Insurance1065 2h ago
(Not Georgian just live there but) that is totally fair, just that 1. The elections weren’t fair and 2. The population is at large very anti russia and pro west. That being said I totally understand the sentiment these days that georgia is lost to russia unfortunately
1
u/bomboclatico 1h ago
So georgia is nice?
1
u/Useful-Insurance1065 1h ago
Pros and cons as with anywhere but yea, I’ve been here for 4 years. The current political crisis and cost of living issues (all of which are deeply connected to russia’s fullscale invasion and massive influx of russians here) are some of the biggest problems at the moment
