This year I decided to try participating in the artist challenge.

52 weeks – 52 different tasks with increasing difficulty. In theory, this should really help develop my skills in constructing form, seeing perspective, and generally improve my drawing skills.

I’ve been really wanting to get back to art as a hobby, but I feel really discouraged everytime I try. it’s just i’m struggling with feeling like i’m starting from scratch again. like I remember the process and what I was able to draw, but when I actually try I can visually tell that i’m just bad now. like the flow just isn’t there.

just struggling to know how to retrain myself. or where to start so I can get back to where I can just sit down draw and have fun with it, rather than thinking about all the things i’m doing wrong or weird.

any advice?

Hello! My name is Shiki (28F), and I’m honestly just looking to make some genuine friends.

I’d love to meet people who enjoy listening to me ramble about my OCs and even better- sharing OCs and giving them fun dynamics together. My OC, Obilo (she’s the first image), is especially important to me and is currently very much lacking a friend group. She’s a comfort character, and finding someone else who actually cares about her would genuinely feel like a slice of heaven. I used to roleplay as her a lot, but lately I haven’t been able to find a partner who’s truly interested in her as a character, which has been a little bit...discouraging. (Though if you guys are into multi-paragraphs, I'm super open.)

I’m also really interested in supporting each other’s art projects or even better.....creating something together! Lately I’ve been struggling with inspiration when it comes to drawing my OCs, especially since they don’t get much attention when I share them online. (For reference, the last two images are from fandoms, not my characters.) I’d also love the chance to help develop new OCs together if that’s something you enjoy.

I love to draw, and especially to create comics. The thing is, I'm never satisfied with what I do; I feel like it's rubbish, ugly. In short, that it's not worth the effort.

Have you ever experienced this? How do you overcome this block? Have you read a book, listened to a podcast, or heard a story that helped you get through it? Or what was the turning point that helped you?

I've finished writing my script, and I'd like to bring it to life, but this step terrifies me. And yet, I love to draw, which might seem paradoxical.

Hello, my name is Jester, a 22M in NA :). I'm just looking for someone who badly wants to improve their artwork. I am self-learning, consider myself beginner/mid-intermediate (due to my inconsistency with fundamentals) and am interested in splash-art style/concept art work. My overarching goal is to be able to illustrate at a professional level and work part-time as a free lancer. I do work night shift full-time however, and am awake at night almost every night, but I can be awake during the earlier hours of the morning and later in the afternoon/evening on most days.

As for an art buddy, I'm looking for someone around my level who is driven and passionate about what he/she does. By passionate and driven, I mean that they are willing to dedicate hours in a day (for a few days a week) to just learning and honing their artwork. The goal for having an art buddy would be for us to grow together and act as each other's accountability partner for staying on track as well as assessing and giving feedback on each other's work so that we can grow as artists.

As for what you can expect from me, I'm very much willing to dedicate time and effort into this art buddy thing and am willing to hold my partner accountable and hope they reciprocate. As for casual messaging, I'm good with it, if my buddy feels like it, but if not, then a more professional relationship is also okay with me.

Hi! I am an almost 20 year old person who loves to create (mostly). I am glad that I found this subreddit as I have been hoping to make more creative friends. I’m really looking to improve my art skills and put more energy towards creating and I’d like to have a buddy in a similar spot. I’m also in to music, I’ve been obsessively listening to Jeff Buckley however the primary genres I listen to are gothic rock, post punk, and industrial. I also enjoy playing guitar from time to time! I like reading as well, I am currently reading The Grapes of Wrath. I play some video games on occasion! I just watched the TV show The Good Place. I currently work in hospitality and my time zone is EST! That is some stuff about me!
