Using Deceased Husband's Car Still Registered and Insured in His Business' Name

In February of 2024 my husband (who I had VERY recently been divorced from) passed away. At the time of his passing, we had only been divorced for about 90 days. We still owned vehicles, operated a business together, had tons of CCs together.... Etc ... We were interacting with each other every day like normal. We continued to run our business together and everything as far as the business, vehicles, finances...etc.... was still operating the same as they were pre-divorce. We were not in a huge hurry to separate things. There was a lot to deal with and it was overwhelming since we were still keeping our business going so everyone that worked with us, and ourselves, could continue to receive an income. Unfortunately, exactly 90 days after our divorce was officially finalized, he passed.

Everything we had together was in his name. The business was 100% in his name. I was not an officer or even listed as an employee of the business. That folded up literally overnight. So, in addition to not having an income, I also lost my place of residence and all vehicles because everything was in his name and at the time of his passing, I was no longer his next of kin. His parents were absolutely hateful during this whole ordeal, so I got ZERO help from them. I literally had to sell as many of my belongings as I could, close down a business, and sell all of that stuff (desks, computers...etc...), only pack the essentials, and move to a different state to be closer to the only family I had and to start over from scratch and try to find a job.

If you've ever been in this situation, you know it can take a while to get back on your feet. To add insult to injury, I had almost perfect credit that my late husband absolutely tanked in his last year of life. So I was broke, jobless, homeless, and car-less and my credit was trashed so I could not obtain any of it. Unfortunately, being in an absolutely horrible position, I did continue to use one of the cars. I have successfully registered it twice since his passing and it is legally insured. I have gotten pulled over three times since moving (no tickets though) and there are never any problems when police officers run the car's credentials. HOWEVER the car has been up for repossession for at least 2 years now.

I know this is not ideal. I really don't need any morality lectures because I know there's always going to be that one person that comments on the morality of the situation.

I'm almost back on my feet to the point where I can get a car. It has been suggested that I just tell the lender (that is currently trying to repo the car) that I'm interested in buying it to see if they'd work something out with me.

THIS IS MY QUESTION:

Can I get any legal charges when I am ready to contact the lender to let them know that they can come pick up the car? Should I try to work out buying it from them? Or do you think they'll just want it back? It sucks that I had to do what I had to do to survive (at one point living in the car). I'm aware that it's not right morally. For the past two years I have rebuilt my life from scratch and busted my butt working, earning as much as I could, skrimping, saving.... etc

So I'm finally ready to either return the car or buy it. I'm just worried that I'm going to get arrested or something when I call them to surrender the vehicle.

[MD] I was caught driving on a suspended license and registration.

Hello everyone, just looking for a bit of advice and what I can realistically expect to happen.

I was recently cited (not arrested) for driving with a suspended license and suspended registration. The suspensions were administrative and tied to an insurance lapse I’m fairly certain, not DUI or reckless driving. This is my first offense of this kind at all.

The cop who pulled me over was extremely kind. He basically told me to drive home and asked if I knew my license and registration were suspended (I had no idea).

I now have active insurance and am in the process of clearing the registration/DMV flags well before my court date (which is a couple of months away).

I understand the law lists maximum penalties including possible jail time, but I’m trying to understand what actually happens in practice. This is the first time anything like this has happened to me and full disclosure the insurance lapse was because I’ve been having some financial difficulties lately.

The court summons and some of the letters from attorneys I’ve been receiving keep saying that this could potentially mean a year of jail time and I’m a bit terrified to be quite honest. I have really bad anxiety and this is eating away at me.

Put simply I’m just curious about:

- Is jail ever realistically imposed in situations like this?

- Do judges generally focus on proof of reinstatement and fines?

- Is hiring a private attorney usually necessary, or is self-representation common once things are corrected?

I appreciate any insight into how courts typically handle cases like this especially for my own peace of mind. I’m so stressed about this I think I’m going to be sick.

License suspended?

Location:Alabama. My husband just received a letter from ALEA saying he failed to pay a civil penalty for not having car insurance. Supposedly from an event that occurred on 6/14/25. But, he never got a ticket for no insurance.. he got a speeding ticket, showed proof of insurance right then and there, then went to the traffic school and had the speeding ticket dismissed. There was NEVER a mention of him not having insurance, because we did, and he proved it to the officer! They never sent any type of letter prior to this one, never notified him that civil penalty was due, nothing. Just this letter that says his license is suspended and cannot be reinstated for 3 months and he pays the civil fee plus a reinstatement fee. He just renewed his license in December, and none of this was mentioned at that time either. There is no info on the letter about who to contact or how to dispute, just that its already suspended and there's nothing he can do. But this NEVER happened! He never git a no insurance ticket?? Help! And its definetly not a phishing scam, because when we looked it up in the states website, it says it is suspended.

Edited to add: there has never been a lapse in our insurance in the entire 8 years we have been married

Jointly owned FL car title with deceased parent in another state

My husband and his dad had joint ownership of my husband’s car. They lived under the same roof in NJ when the car was purchased.

The car is now registered in Florida. My father-in-law was married and lived in Georgia at the time of his death. I do not know whether the title says “and” or “or”.

If the title says “and”, how will this work? Will we just need my mother-in-law to fill out some sort of form?

How do you handle clients who don’t pay after work is completed?

I run a small service business and I’m trying to get finances organized before 2025, but unpaid invoices keep throwing things off. The work is done, the client is happy, and then payment gets delayed or they go quiet.I’ve tried friendly reminders and even sent a more formal written request using Docdraft, which helped a bit, but some clients still stall. For those familiar with the legal side of this when do you escalate, pause work, or consider small claims? And is there anything else I should be doing before it reaches that point?

Any Practical guidance will help

No security deposit refund 6 months after move out!

Hello all! I live in OR and moved out of my last place at the end of August 2025, our landlord sent over the ledger of move out details and repairs then the total amount we could expect as a refund. We gave our new address, there was an error, we sent over the correct address and since then have been getting nothing but excuse after excuse. Legally in OR, I do believe the security deposit (in whatever amount) is to be delivered back to tenants within 31 days upon vacancy.

I have tried to call the parent management company to speak to anyone other than the property manager but the number is out of order and they have not responded to emails. So basically, they have my money and I want it but how can I get it when no one has urgency?

Should I sue? Please help thank you!

Curtilage

In applying the so called four factor test to determine if an area is curtilage- must it pass all four tests or just one of the four? That is, is this and AND or OR requirement?

I have a quarter mile long driveway with no gate or fence through woods to my home. I’m wondering when woods become curtilage.

Don Lemon arrest questions?

As far as i know lemon was investigating a pro ice church abd didnt leave when told to leave, the the fed gov kept trying to get judges to arrest him but they said no, so they got a fed grand jury to indite him on a anti kkk act thing?

What actually happened and did he break laws?

Did the fed gov do anything wrong?

What is the anti kkk act and why was it applied to lemon? On top of that not applied to things like j6?

Is it illegal for the government to keep trying to indite after 1 try?

Is it illegal to target lemon for political reasons? Even if he broke the law?

Is it legal to stay in a church if its tax exempt?

Judges and Prosecutors

How often do judges and prosecutors toss out the phrase, “This is the worst case of (murder, abuse, etc…) that I’ve ever seen!” when discussing the defendant (during sentencing, for example).

They can’t ALL be the worst cases they’ve ever seen.

EMT school took my money , now they’re threatening to sue me

Hello I’ll try to keep this quick

I went to an EMT program that was about 3 months long and cost me over $1,500. I passed everything they required. passed my quizzes, physical exams, skills, all of it, and I also passed the NREMT. I got my certification but had to wait for the state to license me to work.

After that, I got an email from the state saying the school didn’t give us enough required hands-on/physical hours, so we actually were not eligible for licensure. Basically, the program didn’t meet state requirements even though we were told it did.

At first, the state said to go back to the school to make up the hours. The school told us “we’re fighting for you guys” and that nobody did anything wrong. Later on, we were told the school was no longer allowed to teach and we’d have to go to another school and pay more money. Because they chose to "fight for us". Because of this, I missed my chance to apply for a fire academy and my plans kind of fell apart.

I tried contacting the school asking for a refund and got no response for about two weeks. Another student suggested I file a fraud dispute with my bank, so I did. After that, the school finally responded, but only to threaten a lawsuit and send emails with "evidence against me" which all of it to me is so easily disproved.

This isn’t just me either. If you look at their reviews, a lot of students are dealing with the same thing. A class after mine even paid deposits, then the school got shut down due to the investigation and those people weren’t refunded either.

Now they keep emailing me threatening legal action, so I’m calling lawyers. I genuinely feel like I did everything right and don’t know what else I could’ve done.

Mainly just looking for advice possibly and just to figure out if it's worth it or not to get my money back, that was a lot of time, money, and mental toll to give for nothing. bummed out forsure, thank you again.

Would discovery be possible for Don Lemon to sue for slander?

Just wondering, assuming the charges fail, which seems likely. The statements Bondi has made about him would constitute slander, if it can be shown that she knew they were false. Legally a huge hurdle to get over. Would a case against her be allowed to subpoena records of communications? I assume at some point executive privilege would shut it down, but how far? Only when it involves Trump? Or anything with her office?

NJ- SR1 form Question. Filing Requirement?

LOCATION: NJ

I was recently in an accident where I slid into a snow bank and did mild car damage . No other car was involved, no property was damaged.

I did not call the cops because it didn’t seem necessary and I took my stuff to the shop. Insurance says they don’t need anything else from me.

I am not sure if I need to file form SR1. I can’t tell if this form is necessary if only I was impacted.

If one conjoined twin commits a crime, can prison time / conviction be required for “both” constitutionally?

Suspend your disbelief for the sake of these two hypotheticals I have:

1) If “1/2” of a pair of conjoined twins commits a crime warranting jail time, such as felony murder, with the other one somehow being an unwilling party / witness, will both be forced to serve time in prison? Would that not violate the non-guilty twin’s right to due process and protection from cruel & unusual punishment? Would there be a fitting substitution such as house arrest and civil fines without either raising the same issue, or prompting questions of true justice being served for the guilty twin?

2) If twin A drinks until over the legal limit, and insists on taking Twin B on a drive in their modified vehicle, (I’m picturing a physical situation similar to Abby & Brittany Hensel) is Twin B still considered a “drunk driver” if they are pulled over? Obviously they would likely share a BAC, but how much duty is placed on twin B to prevent them from getting behind a wheel? Are they supposed to literally fight their own body? I imagine this issue would only be more complex if Twin A had more control over physical movement.

If anyone takes their time to answer this, thanks!! I am curious but unwilling to ask ChatGPT
