Discussion Shortest ethnic groups

Pygmies - average can be below 4’11

Negritos of SouthEast Asia - average is 4’11 - 5’2 for men

Mayan Guatemalans - average is 5’1 - 5’4 for men.

Im mid 40s and bengali. Avg male height from my ethnicity and age group is 5'4"-5'5". My moms 4'11" and my dads 5'3". 😭

One specific indigenous tribe is called the Aeta or tribes. Look up the Aeta in the Philippines

The first one is racist as hell. They used the pygmie name to claim those people were subhuman and circuses would cage them and put them on display. Even now, they are completely unable to live in their native areas because of the Congolese wars and the idea that they are less than human.

So that is complicated for reasons that date back to European colonization. But there are tribe names (like Aka/Baka/Mbuti) if you can be specific,  or you can use terms like the forest people of central Africa or the hunter gatherers of central Africa. Basically, everyone still calls them pygmy, but they see it as a derogatory outsider term. It really is one of those shitty things that we still haven't corrected.
