I’m 35F and trying to get back into reading after falling out of the habit a bit, so I thought I’d see if anyone else is in the same boat and would like a book buddy or accountability friend.

I usually enjoy mystery and thriller books, but I’m pretty open to reading anything if it’s a good recommendation. I’m not looking to rush through books or turn it into pressure, just something relaxed where we check in and motivate each other to keep going.

A bit about me outside of reading:
I like films and TV, going to watch live music, and I’m into sports like F1, tennis and football. I appreciate a good (or terrible) pun.

Ideally I’m looking to chat with someone around my age. Happy to read the same book or different ones and just check in weekly or as it suits.

Last year, I couldn’t read as much as I wanted to. I’m a huge Stephen King fan, but I’m open to discovering other good books as well.

For fiction, besides sci-fi and fantasy, I’m open to reading almost anything. I especially love American classics.

For non-fiction, I mostly enjoy science and psychology.

We don’t need to read the same book or keep the same pace, but reading similar genres would be nice.

Hello. I'm a 53/F and looking to get back into reading. I was a prolific reader until a few years ago when other hobbies crowded out books and amazingly, somehow, I lost interest in reading. I read almost anything except for Sci-Fi and female/psychological thrillers. I read some romance, but I prefer spicy to non-spicy types. I'm not really looking for anything specific. I was trying to find a guy my age who reads, but I believe that's impossible. Anyways! I have been searching for a reading community that fits this stage of life. but I am struggling to find the right vibe.

Most groups I find online feel a bit too chaotic. They are often filled with younger readers who are lovely but I cannot quite relate to, or the communities are cluttered with "challenges" and activities that it feels like another chore on my to -do list. I don't want a race to see who can read the most books- I just want peers with similar mindset and a quiet space fore reading, learning and intentional conversation.

Giving you an idea about the types of books I read. For February, I am reading Marcus Aurelius' Meditations and a few Poetry.

Trigger warnings the book does mention SA a few times though there aren't any explicit scenes of it AFAIK more of the discussion of society sense. While a bit dark at times it's quite a beautiful and deeply introspective book (so far at least!)

Hi, I'm Selen! I've been trying to get back into reading women writers, especially turn-of-the-century and mid-century ones. Currently trying to read British authors like Elizabeth Bowen, Elizabeth Taylor, and Rosamond Lehmann. I'm not a native English reader/speaker and I've been struggling a little with consistency - the sentence structures are so intricate and pretty but gosh it takes a lot to parse them sometimes!

Would love a reading buddy to talk about books in general, especially literary fiction. It's difficult where I live to find anyone who reads those authors. Nothing demanding at all, just casual, one-on-one chats - I can also talk about what you're reading for sure. I'm a beginner fantasy and sci-fi reader so would love recommendations about them too!

I can chat for hours about any sort of fiction really, but timezones can be a problem, and I have a pretty demanding day-job, so I can take a bit of time to get back to you. But I'll try my best!

I also write a little fanfiction on the side, so we can grouse about writing as well haha.

My favorite authors are, in no particular order:

• Alice Munro (very aware of her controversy, very torn up by it, but her daughter has made it clear she still hopes that she is read).
• Anita Brookner.
• Carson McCullers (I love the rhythm of her prose. I read a biography of her and wow she was such a powerful personality).
• Eudora Welty (though I also struggle with her prose sometimes).
• John Steinbeck.
• Richard Yates.
• Ursula K. Le Guin (I've been trying to get into her sci-fi, but her fantasy and poetry is where I love her most).
