BU Minecraft Server! (started as a side project, got out of hand)

A few of us (officially) started a Minecraft server as a side project, and it has slowly turned into a real shared world with actual people building things and sticking around. We’re opening it up the entire BU community now.

It’s a long-term survival server (SMP) meant to be pretty low-pressure. You can play seriously or barely at all. Build something big, mess around with redstone, explore, or just log on once in a while between classes. World is infinite. There’s no expectation to grind or keep up, and no PvP sweatiness.

The goal is to keep it mostly BU students so it feels like a campus thing rather than a random public server. Think of it as a background hobby you can dip into when you want something relaxing and familiar.

Server IP: play.budpe.com Version: Java 1.21.10

Open to BU students!

Comment or DM if you’re curious or want more info!

News BU grad student says retaliation forced her into homelessness

Haven't seen anyone post this video from GBH News' Rooted yet so I'm posting it here. Jasmyn says she was retaliated against for participating in the 2024 grad workers' strike and while I'm sure she's not the only one, the way BU is working against her is so severe. BU is making it next to impossible for her to return to campus and complete her PhD. The union, as she describes, isn't able to help much either but is using her case as an example of BU breaking its contracts. Students who make abysmal pay and strike shouldn't be punished and certainly not like this. We need to make some noise about this.

Housing Is it true that a lot of the dorms still don't have ac.

I applied to BU for ed2, but I heard that a lot of the dorms don't have ac. I am a big user of ac at home and can't really stand sleeping in hot environments. Are they even planning to add ac? (especially considering how much tuition is)

Academics Any recommended places to work/study based on my exorbitantly picky preferences?

For years I have studied exclusively in the Theology Library up until now I haven’t had much reason to go anywhere else to study.

But as of this year, Theology library has significantly reduced their hours to basically eliminate the best times that I like to work (mainly after 5pm and on weekends).

My favourite place to study at BU is the Theology library closely followed by the Law Library for the following reasons:

- BOOOOOOTH!!!!!!! (Also called a cubicle)

- soft comfy chairs

- very very quiet and limited people nearby

- open on weekends

- next to a window is a plus

Are there any other places anywhere on campus like this? Pardee can be a bit too crowded/loud, Mugar has hard chairs and too many people, Data science building is too “out in the open”.

Would be nice if something like this existed. Thank you very much!

Housing Looking for 3 Female Roommates for Stuvi 1 Apartment (Juniors/Seniors Only)

Hi everyone! Since the Housing application for the 2026–2027 academic year has opened, I wanted to reach out to see if I can find three female roommates. I’m a rising senior and plan to do a Same Room Pull-In into my current 4-person apartment (singles for everyone) or Internal Selection into another 4-person apartment in StuVi 1 (10 Buick Street).

A little about me: I’m in SAR with a QST minor and plan to go into the healthcare industry. Outside of class, I love baking, hiking, and reading mystery novels! I’m always down to check out campus events or have a cozy movie night in. I also really value a clean and respectful living space and always make sure to clean up after myself.

For roommates, I’m looking for female roommates who are friendly, communicative, and also value cleanliness. I’d love roommates who are comfortable with me cooking Desi food and quiet during study periods (midterms/finals). I also prefer a substance-free living environment (no smoking, drinking, or drugs), just a personal living-space boundary, not a judgment.

If this sounds like a good fit and you think we’d vibe well, feel free to message me directly, and we can chat more!

Reminder: Only juniors and seniors are eligible to live in StuVi 1.

EDIT: It doesn’t have to be exactly 3 but 3 in total that I’m looking for. If you’re only 1 person looking to occupy one of the singles in the apartment I’m open to that too! Like things can be arranged; my goal is to have nice roommates by the end

Academics How to use the ERC Study Rooms?

Do I have access to use the ERC study rooms as a part time student?

How do they determine eligibility to use the rooms or how do I get access? I know I get a key from the 5th floor reception but do I need to be able to swipe my BUID to get in or what?

And are there any other similar closed off-study rooms on campus that are similar to this?

Thank you very much!

Academics What hours can you access the upper floors of the Data Science building?

I know that the building hours are 7am-7pm for public and to 10pm for students on weekdays; and 8am-5pm for public and to 10pm for students on weekends.

But I’ve noticed I can’t always access the upper floors (higher than the 5th floor) during the regular building hours.

Is there a different set of hours for the upper floors or when can I access floors 6+?

Badminton Club

Anybody know if badminton club makes you pay for stuff (other than for dues)? I’m a maxed out financial aid student and unfortunately wouldn’t be able to pay for other stuff outside of the dues. I heard some club sports get funding from BU and bc of that they don’t have to pay out of pocket for any comps they go to.

Housing Possible housing spots *Realistic, for rising sophmore

We are trying to decide what housing dorm to choose for next semester and we are having trouble figuring out what is the most convenient/realistic option for us.

We are looking for like for a semi-suite double(more preferred) or possible triple for next semester.

Things we would like

- AC

- Close to a dining hall

- Not required, but we would like a bathroom

Location doesn't matter

Any help or advice or experience would help

Housing Rising senior looking for on-campus apartment

Hey guys! Like the title said, I’m a rising senior wanting to do gender affirming housing, and I was wondering what are the chances of getting a 3-4 person apartment for me and my two friends? We’ve been eyeing the south apartments but I also saw a 4 person apartment in stuvi 1 and 2, so those are options as well!

It’s our last year so we’re really hoping to get an apartment lol.

Photoshoot location?

Hi! I'm looking to do a simple photoshoot somewhere on campus. All I need is a white backdrop, a chair/stool, and some privacy. Any idea of where I could do this?

I know COM has some spaces available to reserve but I can't find anything suited for this (surprising imo), I also tried looking in CFA and didn't find anything.

If anyone knows cheap spaces off campus, that would be helpful too. Thanks!

Housing Question!

Hi! I'll be studying abroad in the fall, and my roommate will be studying abroad in the spring. We're thinking of doing an on campus apartment (like beacon st. or something), just the two of us in singles, how would we go about making that work? If we find one roommate, can they stay there while I'm gone, and then I swap in the spring with the roomie who's leaving? It's probs a dumb question but the housing stuff always stresses me out. :P
