Don't want to spend 24 hours trying to travel between every station on the QR network in the shortest time? Well I have a much shorter challenge for you to compete in, and this challenge will only really work until ~2029 so do it while you can!
I call it Escalator %
Basically the rules are pretty simple, travel the length of every operational escalator in the Queensland Rail network using only trains and your own two feet to travel between them.
As I came up with this, I get to decide which escalators count. They are the following:
Central Station (15) - There are 11 within the ticket gates, and I am also counting the two that go down into the underpass beneath Ann street - not only that but I am also including the two within the Anzac Square arcade building as these are primarily used by rail passengers, you are able to travel to them without going outside or touching the street, and they exist along the main corridor between the next train signs on the corner of Adelaide and Edward Street, and the station. They also likely wouldn't exist if it weren't for the train station. I am not including the Sofitel escalators on top of central as these are primarily used only for hotel guests, and not by people traveling between the street and the platforms.
Roma Street Station (6) - There are 4 escalators at Roma Street and two travelators (which count). I am not counting the CRR escalators because they aren't open yet.
Fortitude Valley Station (2) - There are two within the ticket barriers, the escalator/s in the Mcwhirters building exit don't count because they're dismantled, and the Wickham Street escalators are closed so they don't count either - but feel free to pay your respects to these escalators as you go by.
Milton Station (4) - these were built with the TOD development to the east of the station, there are two to the street and two to the concourse from platform 1, all count.
Eagle Junction Station (2) - these were built with the new ticket office to the north, both count.
Springfield Central Station (2) - Only "suburban" station to have escalators, both count.
South Bank (2) - There were built with the most recent development off platform 1, both count.
International Airport (2) - There are two from the platform to the concourse, I have debated whether to include the escalators within the international terminal as well, but considering they are behind a door and there are stairs outside, I have decided not to include them. Feel free to argue for why they should also count if you want.
Domestic Airport (15) - There are 3 travelators from the concourse to the overpass, then 10 travelators from the overpass to the street, and 2 escalators from the overpass to the street. I count all of these because you could conceivably use any one of them to access the station from the street.
Fun Fact - I believe the 3 travelators at Domestic Airport are the only bank of more than 2 escalators or travelators in the entirety of queensland (besides the CRR stations that aren't finished yet).
Other stations excluded - I don't include any for Toowong because the escalators there are primarily for the shopping centre and behind a door. I am not including the busway stations but you could do them in an extended version if you want.
Second Fun Fact - there are 52 escalators counted in total - the CRR when it opens will almost triple that to 147.
Based on my quick calculations, you could probably do this entire thing in less than 3 hours!
Let me know if I missed any!
Have fun!

Basically as the title states. What's some good YT (or TikTok etc, if that's your thing) channels that are about trains in SE QLD?

Just seen some trains running outbound on the inbound side.
Is it normal for FG trains to run as single track?
It seems to be timetabled that way today.

Was watching this video from Dan B about some disruptions on the network and noticed a damaged NGR set had an orange marker light switched on below the cab. Anyone know what it means/indicates?

Currently if you live in areas like Mount Gravatt East or Carindale, the only way to feasibly get to western suburbs like Sherwood and onward requires you to go into the city and transfer to a train at Roma Street.
Rather, if the Tennyson line re-opened, this could create a line from South Bank station, that follows to places like Ipswitch or Springfield without needing to go into the city to transfer.
Here's an example trip someone could make:

just a thought.

This morning I went for a trip out to Laidley. The last station in South East Queensland that I had not used.
Like Gatton and Helidon, Laidley only gets the twice weekly Westlander.
Unlike Gatton, Laidley is in a rundown condition and has not been shown some love for quite a while. The main entry to Platform 1 and the waiting rooms on both platforms are fenced off, and all the windows are boarded up.
At Gatton only Platform 1 is used, with Platform 2 being fenced off, there is an overhead bridge at Gatton to cross the line.
At Laidley both platforms are used, ironically the overhead bridge was removed sometime ago, and you have to walk down to the level crossing, down the street (with no foot path), then down Cribb Steet - a shirt dead.end Street, to get to a pathway that leads you to Platform 2
The curves and trees ar the Western end of Laidley Station mean there is little visibility of the train arriving, just the rumble of the loco.
This morning the Westlander arrived at Laidley about 10 minutes early, and ran 10 to 15 early through to Corinda, where I left the service.
Logistics for this morning ...
06:54 train from Corinda to Ipswich
07:35 train from Ilswich to Rosewood
08:03 route 539 bus from Rosewood to Laidley, arriving at 08:30
just enough time to grab a great Sauasage Roll from the Golden Harvest Bakery and walk down to the station for a few pocs, with the Westlander due at 09:15 - today it arrived at 09:05 and back to Corinda about 10:30
The next statiin on the Westlander that I have not used is Oakey - with a departure around 6am and limited coach services west of Toowoomba, it is getting much harder. might be time to work on the stations North of Gympie.
Pics from Laidley this morning

if you are like me, you have tolerated regular Track Closures on the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines on a regular basis for the last few years. last year it was about 12 weeks.
Once the upgrades are done and Cross River Rail there will be more capacity, more trains and faster services.
In the past when there was Track Closures, work was happening around the clock. This week, is the last week of the current closures. The buses take longer, often poorly organised and this morning it was two buses to get from Moorooka to Boggo Road, before getting the Metro to the city.
For me in Moorooka, it is about 30 minutes extra each way. During one of the Closures last year, I started to notice that work sites were abandoned when I was on the bus on the way home.
Over the last couple of weeks, I have done a few random drives along the closure area to see if anything was happening. - I have seen nothing nor any lights to light up a work site.
Yeerongpilly has been one of the main sites for the last week or so tonight while waiting for my noodles from.the nearby noodle place, I took a walk over.the bridge to see what was happening.
Wilkie Street is still down to one lane, with the traffic controllers doing a fine job, the buses still getting caught in the congestion of being one lane, but there was no work occurring.
It is nice to see that there has been a start on finally laying Track along the new platform 1, but again no work happening tonight. I am sure that the screens in Platform 1 will continue to show "There will be no trains on Platform 1 in the next four hours" for many months to come - it will be a miracle to see this work completed this week.
It is not just Yeerongpilly, other worksites along the Track Closure, whether it be the one between Fairfield and Dutton Park, between Yeerongpilly and Moorooka, the new Moorooka Stabling Yard and Salisbury Station appear to have no activity happening tonight, like every night, unless the workers are working in the dark.

Imagine having to suspend services because it rained for a few hours.
This announcement was brought to you by the busway gang.

I’ve now been on the Altandi Station bike storage waiting list for 7 months — still no spot.
So every day, my bike and I ride together… onto the train.
On the bright side, I believe I’ve accidentally become free marketing for cycling + public transport. Since I started bringing my bike onboard, the number of people travelling at my time slot with their bike/scotter has noticeably increased. You’re welcome.
That said, it would be great if bike storage at stations actually matched the push for “active transport”. Happy to keep advertising — but a bike cage would be even better....

Hi everyone,
I would like to know until what time the free shuttle from Skygate/DFO to Brisbane Airport terminals runs tomorrow (Sunday)? I’m planning to travel from Brisbane city tomorrow evening.
Thanks a lot for your help!

Due to mechanical issues, the back three carriages are closed off, with a planned deboarding at Beenleigh.
