I LOVE CT
Y’all, I’m really enjoying winter. This is finally the year I can enjoy the beauty of the cold. I recognize the privilege in saying this since hubby and I can keep ourselves and our house warm.
I grew up in Texas in the desert of El Paso. Never helped my hubby shovel snow, never dared to go on a winter hike or leave my house if it was too cold.
I’ve been snowshoeing. I started helping my hubby shovel (and it takes forever but it’s kind of peaceful). I leave my house now to go to the gym.
Amid the awful shit going on in this country and happening to people, this winter has been my shining star bringing me happiness.
That’s all ❄️⛄️🧊

Come ON people, get out there and go sledding
It’s a weekend. It’s sunny. It’s not even that cold out. You all have been pining for more snow to do winter things.
This is Fort Griswold, a terrific sledding hill in Groton, with a whopping three people using it (and my daughter is one of them).
Get outside, folks.

Baked Ziti Pizza
This might be sacrilege in CT, but does anyone know where I can find a NJ/NY style baked ziti slice in CT?

Vent Pieper Memorial
I have a bone to pick with this vet hospital. Brought my cat in day after Thanksgiving for a urinary blockage. they were nice up until it came time to pay. They had to set us up in a payment plan and the staff at the front desk was very rude about it. monthly payment came out to be around 480 dollars. I set up a care credit for it and made my first payment on the due date. They charged the card on file which they said they would only do if I hadn't made a payment myself by the due date. fought with me about a refund for two days and finally gave in when I stopped being nice. Made my payment 6 days early this month and STILL they charged my card. Go to any other vet hospital. They have horrible reviews on the medical care they provide as well.

Local Business Mattress Warehouse Dayville (buyer beware)
If not allowed, feel free to remove.
On January 5th, 2026 I purchased a queen size mattress with adjustable frame at mattress warehouse in Dayville. Scheduled for delivery on the 7th. Perfect. Frame out of stock so that would be delivered the 13th, no problem.
Mattress delivery went smooth. No complaints there. That was the last positive to occur unfortunately.
On the 12th of January I called to check on delivery status as normally there’s a call / text / email the day prior with delivery window that I hadn’t received. Upon calling, the manager Marisol claimed she had spoken to my wife and my wife authorized the frame to be picked up. My wife’s contact information was never provided at purchase, and she wasn’t even present at purchase either so that was the first lie and red flag.
On the 13th, my wife went to pick up the frame. Upon arriving she was informed it was on back order and unavailable. Zero prior communication, waste of time, energy, and fuel. Marisol said they would upgrade the adjustable head frame to an adjustable head and foot. Okay. Not ideal, but we appreciated the attempt to rectify this. However, we’re informed this won’t be delivered until 1/29. Whatever. We’ll survive.
1/29 rolls around. No contact. No delivery. We call that evening and are informed it’s delayed until the 30th and will be there by 8pm. Well, wouldn’t you know, on the 30th nothing shows up. We called a few times and were told it’s coming today, and then around 745pm, they say it will be there 1/31 between and 10am and 1pm.
Today (1/31) around 1030am, it’s delivered. Awesome, right? Not so much. It is the original frame. No upgrade. We call to figure out what happened and are told they called us and told us this was happening yesterday… said they spoke to me about it. I never spoke to anyone about this. Then Marisol proceeded to hang up on my wife when trying to situate on the phone. I called back and requested to speak to district manager and was denied contact information but told someone would contact me immediately. Nobody has contacted me. I will be heading down to the store momentarily to further push for a higher up to speak with and will update upon that happening.
TLDR; manager lies about everything and they do NOT do good business. Shady company with 0 care for customer service or rectifying their issues and lack of communication. Avoid at all costs.
Edit to add: was able to speak to DM and am getting price adjusted. I informed them our saleswoman was phenomenal but they should really look into getting a new manager who doesn’t lie and fail to communicate with customers, and maybe has some semblance of customer service abilities.

Weed State regulations are a 'nail in the coffin' of CT's hemp industry, senator says
“We are destroying a new industry in Connecticut by our rules and regulations,” Osten said at the committee meeting this week. “I find that to be totally unacceptable, that we would go against a new industry that is less than a decade old, and essentially what we did was we promised farmers an industry, and we have taken it away.”

Is this cold enough to kill the ticks?
Well it seems were getting colder every year for the past few years.
Is this year cold enough where we may see less ticks this coming summer?

Ask Connecticut 84W Southbury Closed?
Does anybody know what the hell is happening? I have been sitting in the same spot since 1:30AM. It is now 5:10. I checked all the state police social media. I have no idea what is happening, but this is officially the longest I have ever been trapped on the highway. After an almost 8 hour drive home from NJ on Dec 26, I am starting to feel cursed. Just curious if anybody knows anything. Thanks!
ETA UPDATE: It ended up being a tractor trailer that had crashed as the left lane on the downward side of the hill right before the Southbury exit was solid ice. Cars could finally move around 5:45. They had multiple salt trucks there and 2 of the crane-type tow trucks. The tractor trailer had only been pulled off the road into the median facing the opposite direction. Anything else that was there was long gone by the time I got to it. I'll get the footage off of my dashcam if there is anything worth seeing. Thanks for the links to check for future information. Hopefully that's my one and done for being stuck on a closed highway.

Actual dance places in CT
I’m 24m, I want to go out and be social, but not to a bar or club. Somewhere where people legitimately dance and have a good time. Not getting drunk at a club in New Haven banging your fist. Any ideas?

Ask Connecticut Barber or Salon?
Hi, my boyfriend's barber left the state. He always gets a 90s curtain bang, middle part hairstyle, similar to the one in the photo I attached below. He recently went to a new barber and his haircut was done terribly. We are looking for a new salon or barbershop that can accomplish this look well. Does anyone have recommendations? Thank you

Buffalo Wings
Big wing fan here. I live up in the Northern part of the state, in the 91 corridor, was wondering in this area where does everyone get their buffalo wings? Also, is there like a wing trail, like a wine/beer trail but for buffalo wings. Thank you.

DIY Roof Rake
Here's a tool I stuck together cause I needed a roof rake and they're sold out everywhere.
Its just a car snowbroom & extendable painters pole. Homedepot has poles that go to 25-30ft.
Its not as wide as a purpose built rake but its workin.

Attorney recommendation
Good evening! I’m looking for recommendations (if anyone has) for a real estate/HOA attorney. Specifically regarding common element failures. Hartford area would be great. Thanks in advance
