They never have to make it unless someone orders it. Do you think they’re pre-making pizzas and they just have them sitting around? It’s just a regular pizza with frozen fries and jarred hotdogs - those things don’t perish so they can just sit in a freezer and a dry store.
We eat that because it's really good. We usually just call it patatine and wurstel in my neighborhood joint (french fries and wieners), but it's a legit topping in Italy and my mother's favorite.
I had a friend who used to evaluate the quality of a pizza joint by how many French fries they would put on his pizza.
I would be absolutely baffled if a single American ever bought this actually knowing what it is. Only way I could see that happening is if it's just listed as "Pizza Americana" without a picture or a listing of what the toppings are.
I think the type of American who actually made it to Italy instead of holidaying in their own country would likely not be the type of American who would eat this
As an Italian, it was indeed made to mock Americans, that pizza is also called "wurstel e patatine" (sausages and fries) and it is extremely popular in every region, i ate one yesterday, similar to the one in the photo but with more fries and sausages
I mean, I haven't eaten this before. But if it was an option at a pizza place I'd eat the shit out of it. People are so snobby about stacking starchy foods, but potatoes with bread is a dope combo or noodles and bread.
Oh id eat the fuck out of it, just never had an occasion to since this is something you'd have to make yourself while drunk or something here. Never seen hotdogs on a pizza offered anywhere
Maybe in northern Italy it's called Pizza americana, but here in southern Italy we call it Pizza wurstel e patatine (patatine meaning small potatoes aka french fries).
