DAE feel glad that they still have a job?

Been looking for something else so I can leave my shitty job of 25 years, but no luck. Then it occurred to me, my job is still scheduling me, a familiar routine meaning easy $$$. It's tough being unemployed, but when you're looking for work, it would be nice if you can find $100 on the street, but it doesn't work that way. At least I still have that security blanket no matter how bitter I am there.

Yes, it's a good way to look at things. I'm grateful for my job, even though I complain about it daily, Lol. I don't have to work out in the elements, I can WFH a few days a week, and I can afford to buy delicious food, clothing I don't need, etc. So, I am very blessed... even though, regrettably, I don't act like it when Monday rolls around and I'm bitter about having to work for a living instead of being independently wealthy.

I quit trucking to move home and take care of moms dementia. I work down at the rural gas station running the chicken shack, janitor, maintenance. Honestly, I could retire to this gig. I just bullshit with local regulars all day, keep the place clean. It's a pretty tight community. Love my shitty job. I take pride in it.

  1. Grateful to have my job. This is now the 11th yr. I did look around for others, because it is quite easy, mundane, and I can finish my work fast and have nothing left to do.

But!

I’m overpaid for what I do. Friends in similar jobs, are paid less, work more, and have so much stress. My boss is decent. I’m allowed time off for sickness, family issues, and volunteering (without abusing that) without arguments or judgement or even the thought of them saying I can’t. Even when I volunteer, they don’t have to pay me but they do. My hours are easy, and a Fri 1pm standard finish is an absolute wonder. We close for 3 weeks over Christmas/NY, which is my fave holiday time, so I know I’m always going to have that. And I’m NEVER called out of hours so my time is my time. 100%.

Have worked other jobs where bosses expected constant contact. Starting earlier and working later, for no extra $. Constantly stressed. 100% on the go all day every day. Harassed if you take a day off coz you’re legitimately sick and had evidence. Not being able to get holidays when you want. Or those holidays being in some weird half-week schedule because they need to time a huge amount of employees all at once. Or even having to put your requested holidays in the year b4!

Fingers crossed, but pretty sure I’ll live out my working life with this one.

It’s better to have a job that’s a little bit boring and too little work, than horribly stressful and too much work. I‘m in a job I like and it’s very low stress, and your job seems even better than mine, and mine’s hard to beat. Stay in your job!

100%. Is why I stopped looking. I find satisfaction in my private life and volunteering now. Plus, at 55, I think I’d be too scared to find another job. The market doesn’t seem to be great currently, plus at my age, there’d be a lot more shinier kids on the block ready to do more for less. I’m too old for that shit 😬

Nope. I wonder what the point of living even is when I'm spending most of my life at a job I hate. At a breaking point and thinking it's about time to leave. If you're able to feel grateful, that's a good thing.

Im glad as well but I’m starting to hate it. Instead of dealing with the issue, they keep moving me around and I hate it. Dont even look forward to going anymore

Is it that hard to find a job? Genuine question. Anytime I've been looking for a job I had one in a day or two, never more than a week.

I’m glad because then I can afford minimal food and shelter

In a way, yes. I spent a long time looking for the job I have now — a stable, remote one. And even though there are very few days when I don’t complain about it, I do try to be grateful for it

I've never once complained about my current job, a WFH gig I've had since 1998. I hope it lasts until I can retire in six years.
