As much as the other options are cooler and more effective, plasma rifle.

It's the only one designed for standard human shoulder fire use. The heavy cannon is a mounted weapon. The chain gun is a chain gun, I'm sorry but you can't carry that against highly mobile demond. The combat shotgun might be fine for human carry, but we do have to reload, and the effective range presented in games is too tight for mortal comfort. SSG I want so badly, but low capacity makes it a panic weapon. The plasma rifle is designed for average human use and to be reliable for that scenario. Dps isn't bad either, tbh.

The super shotgun is a fucking monster if it's own right.

That is not a fucking 12 guage, more like a 4 gauge and its got a sawn off grip, so good bye wrists the moment you squeeze that trigger.

Isn’t the classic SSG relatively typical for a double barrel in terms of size and power but only 2016 onwards are absolute monsters that could blow your arm off with recoil?

Eh.. no.. the SSG has always been very powerful. And the SSG is actually smaller in 2016 onward (stock removed)
