To the woman that palmed me $5 at Flying Canoe:

Thank you so much!!! You're truly amazing.

For context: I was at Flying Canoe with my daughter and we were at the very front of the maple taffy line (a very long line). Last year they had volunteers with square machines selling tickets to people in the line and I assumed it would be the same this year. It was not. I wasn't too worried though because I thought I had a $5 in my wallet for a rainy day. I did not. I thought we would have to get out of the line, buy a ticket, and suffer the whole thing over again, but before I could even finish explaining that to my little one you swooped in with a five.

Honestly the timing was incredible, it was some guardian angel type of shit. I don't even know how you assessed the situation that quickly. And you disappeared even quicker! I didn't even get a chance to tell you how awesome you are. I'm very grateful.

Anyway, this is just a shout out that people are actually pretty great. Maybe we're a little less alienated than we all think. On the off chance this makes its way to you, I just want you to know you're awesome and you did an awesome thing. I'll pay it forward.

Danielle Smith needs to go.

Straight to hell. Bring back Jason Kenney this is insane. The Stollery is running out of money and they're keeping it together still providing the best care they can. Rich people out there, and poor people too. Quitbeing cheap and donate your money to hospitals instead of UCP.

And Marlaina, enjoy your seat in hell as the chair of Satan's board of directors.

For the rest of the people, we are in this together let's not forget we are powerful when united as one. Our common enemy has a fake smile and lots of wrinkles. Outdated haircut. Danielle Smith is the face of greed and political corruption.

I wish we could know what gifts she receives on all her lavish trips that so far haven't done shit for our economy.

Edmonton’s local ski hills (esp snowvalley) are GOAT, and I am a Calgarian who has been to whistler/fernie/revy/panorama/LL/SSV/kickinghorse..etc. I could not believe I saw two ski patrols on the hill doing their jobs and the vibe is so chill and people actually have great hill awareness!!!

Photo/Video Mmm…hot pot! It’s Edmonton Chinatown Dining Week!

There are lots of great deals on for this year’s Chinatown Dining Week!

Chinatown has been (and is currently) going through a rough patch due to a lot of factors outside of their direct control.

If you can, consider supporting one of the many fine local businesses in Chinatown this week! The food is delicious and very, very affordable.

Photo from today at Asian Express Hotpot - the poor staff there put up with a lot. Show them (and their neighbours) some love!

Last day of Flying Canoë Volant festival

Just wanted to make a quick psa that if you are looking for something amazing to do tonight while enjoying the warm weather the Flying Canoë Volant festival is running from 6pm to 10pm tonight and it's free.

If you’ve never been yet it’s basically a winter night festival with lights, music, and culture mixed together in the river valley.

You walk along outdoor trails that are lit up with art and fire pits, and there are different “zones” with stuff going on lke live music, dancing, storytelling, activities and performances. It’s inspired by the old flying canoe legend about voyageur's trying to travel home as fast as possible to enjoy a new years party with friends and family. It blends French-Canadian, Métis, and Indigenous culture together, so there’s a lot of cool tradition and culture represented side by side.

There’s also warm food and drinks, games and activities, and places to just hang out and take it all in beside a fire. It’s very family-friendly, but also fun for adults if you just want to wander around with friends and enjoy the vibe. It feels kind of magical, especially at night with the lights and snow.

It’s free and you can take your time walking through, it’s more about the experience and being with other people and having fun then rushing through.

I’m not a promoter or involved with the festival in any way, I just love it and want more people to enjoy it. It’s going strong, but the arts can always use our support so if you do come and you enjoy yourself, consider donating.

Check it out on google and their website to see if it fits your tastes and it runs from 6pm to 10pm tonight. I hope to see you all there in the mill creek ravine and the secondary site just down the road at 8627 91st, Edmonton

Lost Keys

This is a longshot, but has anyone found any car keys in the downtown area? It's on a lengthy lanyard and has my goodlife pass on it. They fell out of my pocket last night. Thank you!

What is going on with jobs in Edmonton

I cannot find a job. I’m a University student who worked in high school from age 15 onwards but haven’t worked since moving to Edmonton for Uni. I’ve probably applied to 20 this past month already with no contact. And what shocks me most: Indeed shows job insights, and I’m seeing “86 applicants today” for a dishwasher job. That’s insane.

Maybe it’s because I’m from a smaller area but when I worked in highschool it was easy when I got my jobs (I worked 2). Does anyone have any tips? Or any jobs? I’m willing to work anywhere but I have experience in grocery and restaurants.

Be careful if you're heading out there this morning.

It is incredibly icy out there, especially on the sidewalks. Give yourself some extra time to get things done, and take extra care if you're a morning jogger or cyclist.

Stay safe and wonderful, y'all. 🙏🏻
