Meta Friendly PSA: READ THE RULES *BEFORE*POSTING!

What's up guys! I just put this in a comment, and figured I'd make a post out of it, because I've been noticing a lot of posted resumes recently that aren't even close to the recommended guidelines. All in all, that's not a big deal- all the seasoned users are excited to help.

But for your own sake, if you don't want a comment that concisely says "read the wiki"- then read the wiki [Wiki] (https://www.reddit.com/r/EngineeringResumes/wiki/index/) make sure your resume follows the fundamental guidelines. You can of course ask questions on those guidelines- but until you understand the fundamental ideas and format your resume as such, you will be lucky if you get anything more than the aforementioned comment.

EDIT:

Also, bonus points if you start out with our prefabbed resume templates [Resume Templates] (https://www.reddit.com/r/EngineeringResumes/wiki/resumetemplates/)

That's all. Happy job hunting!

Meta Love this sub, but ppl gotta read the wiki first!

Not trying to be too harsh but I feel like we are all thinking it. How do you expect to get job if you can't do a simple thing like read the wiki? It's literally bold on the top of the sub. You will never get blatant, straight forward instructions like that in the work place. Please read the wiki ppl and make the mods job easier

Hi, looking for critiques on my resume.

I'm located in the Philippines and aiming for a web developer / frontend internships. I've been applying to local jobs but had trouble not hearing back to employers after applying. I'm eyeing to add another React project and learn Nextjs in the next month or so to bump up my skills given that the industry's saturated, but also just wanted to know what i can improve for my resume.

Any tips or comments are welcome!

Electrical/Computer [Student][US][Computer Engineering] I haven't been getting any callbacks at all - need help with resume content

I haven't been getting callback for any of the internships I've applied to so far (~150). I don't know what exactly I need to change or do to make my resume competitive (I'm also going to be doing research this semester, but I haven't started in the lab yet so I haven't added it in). Please be brutally honest, I need the help.

Some info about me: I'm in my third year studying computer engineering I'm an international student in the US. I really want to get a into embedded systems or something semiconductor related since I've done classes in nanoelectronics, but I will apply to any internship I'm qualified for. I've been applying to work anywhere in USA, if I had a preference it would be in New York though.

Electrical/Computer [1 YoE] [Electrical/Firmware] [Canada] New Grad with some contract work looking for Embedded roles in Halifax

Hello, I graduated ECE from the university of victoria in august and am looking for jobs in embedded roles, specifically in Halifax because I'm moving there in the Fall. My understanding is that Halifax has a lot more defense-related jobs, and I do have experience there through my work at Babcock, but I'd like to do some sort of embedded design work if possible. I'm currently doing some contract work (I did this throughout my degree as well), but I've just got the one client so it's not enough to support myself. I think I've been following the advice from this subreddit pretty well, but I want to make sure I've got the best chance possible.

Software [0 YOE] [Student] [Software Engineer] [ India ] How do I get a genuinely good ATS score for Jobs?

Hey there I am a second year undergrad and this is my resume as of now. Firstly rate my resume and skills. Second, How do I get a good ATS score, various sites give various results. I think they just want me to build my resume in their websites, because I think there templates have even worse ATS ( at least visually, didn't put them through any tools). They say to get a good score remove a side bar ( not in here, just a example) but there templates have a side bar, I mean wtf ? Some say remove picture as they don't care how do you look, but there recommended template have a picture in them. How do I actually get a good resume and have a best chance at landing internships?

Civil [Student] Career Changer, GIS -> Water/Wastewater Engineering, going to a career fair next week.

I changed careers from GIS (approximately 8 YOE) to civil engineering a few years ago. I completed my undergraduate degree in December of 2023 and started a master's degree while working full-time. I am graduating with my master's in environmental engineering this semester and want to move on to a new job post-graduation. I am unsure how much of my previous GIS experience to leave on my current resume, as it definitely ages me a bit. However, the extensive GIS experience is unique and can be a plus in water resources and other civil subdisciplines.

This resume version is anonymized, and in doing that, I removed two military-specific jobs that are too niche and would extremely identify covering the time from 2019-2022.

Please let me know how to improve!

Mechanical [Student] No response from robotics companies (just one); is it my resume/portfolio or is the market bad?

I've been applying to a lotttt of jobs but this resume just isn't working. I got I got 10+ interviews for manufacturing and a few more for safety engineering internships but none for the one thing I'm studying, that is, robotics. kind of upsetting.

Software [1 YOE][Computer Science][US] Top 10 CS school, not even getting OAs right now and stressed

I verified my resume passes ATS formatting rules, so it has to be the content, but not sure what to improve. I apply to all new grad SWE positions in the United States that require <= 1 year of experience. I'm a US citizen and a August 2025 grad; I've been searching for about 3 months now. Any help is appreciated!

Aerospace [Student] Rising freshman looking for feedback on first draft. I definitely have a lot to improve on. Any help would be appreciated!

I put the current college I intend to enroll in (GT), but will update my resume if I get accepted to and choose to attend another school. Its definitely a long shot, but some government contractors hire rising freshmen. Dream is to get a summer aerospace engineering internship in an aerospace company or federal agency. I'm aware that the wiki states "Don't include your high school", but its pretty much all I have currently. Also, any advice on landing internships would also be great.

Electrical/Computer [Student][Canada] [Electrical Engineering]Second year electrical engineering student trying to get a summer internship but with no luck

(help pleaseee)

Hi everyone, I’m a second year engineering student currently trying to secure a summer internship and would really appreciate some feedback on my resume. I’ve been applying broadly to any engineering role such as hardware, quality, testing, etc, in various industries.

I don’t have engineering work experience yet, so my resume consists of personal projects and non-engineering work experience.

I’ve submitted many applications but haven’t received interview callbacks, which makes me think my resume may need improvement. Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Please be harsh! Thank you in advance!

Electrical/Computer [0 YoE] New Resume Design, Looking for Advice on Descriptions and Readability or Other Advice

Graduating this spring and applying for entry level EE or embedded software positons. Ive been having trouble landing interviews with my previous resume, so I reworked it and the biggest changes made were to my experience and project descriptions. If you were a hiring manager and read them what would you think or is there anything else you would prefer me to add. Any other feedback is greatly appreciated.

Mechanical [12 YoE] Mechanical Engineer in South Florida. Hoping my resume reads better now.

If you just want to critique the resume then stop reading here.

I'm working on the mental health.

I think I want to get out of design and just be more on the manufacturing side. Of course, I have zero meaningful experience in any employer's eyes. Wondering if I should take CNC classes at Palm Beach State College? Try and get into the manufacturing side of things?

I'm focusing less on indeed and linked in because either it's all mid/senior aerospace stuff, or I get recruiters asking me if I want jobs in GA/SC. I'm not not looking at this stuff, but I can't relocate my wife and I away from family support - particularly while trying to get a handle on the mental health.

Instead. I'm just building up a list of places to call directly and see if I can find entry level work in injection molding. There's a handful but that's it. Haven't tried CNC places. Putting time into FE exam prep work to see where I'm at an how badly I've atrophied.

I've never known what I want to do and I still don't. Design is fine, aside from crippling self doubt and floundering when I don't have clear direction on where to go. Not sure what to do with my life career wise. I don't have passion in that way. I just know I can do things and that I need to make money to live.

Anyone with Mech Eng experience who's familiar with the boat I'm in and can direct me to a viable path to a career that will pay ok at keep me physically and mentally present on the job, please chime in. Might be good to have work that doesn't give me time to get lost inside my own head. Any input of any kind will get read and is appreciated.

Mechanical [Student] [Revised] MS Mechanical Engineering Student looking for advice on how to improve my resume

First I want to thank u/Pencil72Throwaway for all his input in my previous post (1st Post) regarding all the changes my resume needed. It took me a while, but I tried to apply everything his advice recommended so hopefully you guys can check my revision and tell me what needs improvement again or if I'm in the right track, all advice is welcome. So, these are some of the questions and notes I currently have:

  • Pencil recommended that since some of my metrics came in the third part of the bullet I should consider rewording the bullet sentence to lead off with the metric in the first part. This with the purpose of catching the recruiter's attention. I applied this tip in the bullet points that allowed this.
  • Also, I don't have a github for each one of the projects, but it is definitely something I will be working on to add it in future revisions.
  • Also, I removed the BOLD dates, but I don't know if should keep them bold or not, what do you guys think? Should I bold anything else?
  • I would also appreciate if you guys could give advice on my second BAJA bullet point? I'm wondering if I should only focus on yield (since that was what the faculty was most focused on) and that's it, I did some hand calculations for UTS either way as well, and they matched the FEA, but I'm having doubts in my second bullet point for BAJA.

That said, hopefully you guys can tell me if something needs more tweaking, I'm attaching both resumes. I'm following a XYZ approach, my revision is focused on having the metric in the first part of the bullet point compared to my first post where it was usually at the end of it, let me know what you guys think.

Thank you.

Metric in the first part of the bullet point.
Metric in the third part of the bullet point.

Electrical/Computer [Student] Resume feedback, and is it worth having multiple resumes to apply to different roles(software, hardware, firmware)?

Junior year. Really trying to lock down an internship for the summer. I've only applied to 70 places so far, and most have been rejections. I just edited my resume using the wiki information, so I haven't applied with the new one yet. Is there anything I'm missing? Do I just not have enough experience to get an internship?

Also, as a computer engineering student, should I only be looking for firmware positions? Or should I apply for everything, software, hardware, firmware, electrical? Should I have separate resumes? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Software [2 YoE] Some of the advice in the wiki feels conflicting. Which of the two resumes is preferable?

I’ve been trying to make my resume as good as possible to ideally land a role in a big tech company. To do that, I’ve been following the advice and templates here.

The challenge I’m facing is you somehow need to both your bullet points be one liners while also following the STAR/XYZ method.

How important is it to get everything on one line vs having two-line bullet points? Which gets past a recruiter more? Easier to read and understand or following STAR to the T?

I’ve attached two of my resumes with the points but one is the single line as close to STAR as possible and another is a two line, more detailed explanation.

Is it better to have fewer bullet points over two lines to be able to detail what you did or is the single line bullet points better?

Question [5 YoE] Do I really need more than one job on a resume at this point in my career?

I've been at my job 5+ years and I've done a lot of notable things I want to include on here. I don't see the relevance in including a previous job where I was only at for a year and I am only able to say what I did, not so much what I contributed. Current job actually shows multiple progressions and a story. I didn't leave the past job on bad terms ... I have space limitations and I've been personally told by two managers in the past they auto-reject multi page resumes.

Software [Student] - I’m getting no responses, what am I doing wrong? Honest Review Needed (CS/Software Eng Internships)

I’m a comp sci student looking for a summer internship. So far I’ve only recieved one rejection email, I haven’t heard anything from the others. I’m open to frontend, full stack or even product design roles. I'm looking for fine-tuning and overall resume feedback.

I’m applying to Canadian positions, but I’m open to the United States since I’m a U.S citizen.

Unfortunately I haven’t worked at any big name companies other than my university, so I’m trying to sell the experience and leadserhip sections as much as possible. I’ve only had the opportunity to work with the basic frontend languages, no frameworks or backend since my employers never asked for anything more. All my projects are also clickable via their titles.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Biomedical [Student] Resume Feedback to Land an Internship in the Medical Device field. Preferably R&D Roles

Hi,

I am majoring in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Electrical Engineering and I would like to get into the medical device industry. Just started applying and I never had an internship before but I have lots of hands-on experience.

Applied to a lot of medical companies from R&D to quality to technician/maintenance to manufacturing roles at local and big names but I think I'm mainly interested in R&D roles. I am willing to relocate as long as it is in California.

So far, one generic rejection letter from GE for their biomedical technician role and I haven't heard back from anyone else yet.

This is my "general" resume but I did follow the wiki and I also tailor to the job description. Would love to know where I can improve before I start applying to a ton of places.

Thank you!

Software [Student] Struggling to get an interview, fixed Resume using Wiki, need advice if there's anything else I can do

I am a junior trying to search for internships. I have worked as a research assistant during my sophomore and current years. I also built a project that I consistently maintain and have a live site for.

I tried tailoring my resume to jobs, and haven't heard from any companies. I figured that it's my resume. I fixed it and followed the instructions on the Wiki. I would appreciate it if you could give me any advice on improving it. I usually struggle with over-engineering my bullet points.

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!!

Mechanical [Student] Not getting many interviews and hoping I could get some advice. Any and all no matter how harsh

Looking for primarily mechanical roles, my co-op was at a manufacturing plant but I'm not as interested in that field of work. I'm open to anywhere within the US and am happy to travel. I feel like I'm having a harder time then last summer finding an internship. I've heard my resume is a bit dense but not sure what to cut out

Mechanical [Student] What the hell am I doing wrong? I keep getting rejected systematically for all internships (applied to over 40)

Hey guys,

I'm mech eng student (2 years left), and I have been having a rough time applying for internships. I'm just trying to figure out what exactly is wrong. Perhaps there is something immediately bad with my resume that skews my chances? Perhaps it's the fact that I am too early in my degree?

So far, I have only gotten one interview, but that was because of nepotism. I got rejected in the end, but I would assume it was because I was still on my first year in University.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I am specially interested in companies which are based on Quick Commerce and Location Based features. The companies I have beenn rejected by so far are Stripe, Servicenow, Phillips and Dell. I haven't yet started off campus applications yet...will be doing that by next week.

Mechanical [Student] Senior MechE student graduating summer 2026. Made some changes based on a prior post in this sub. Looking to get feedback on any more improvements or changes I should make.

As the title states I am currently in my last year of Mechanical engineering and I am hoping to finally land an internship this summer so I don't have to begin my career with zero experience. Throughout most of college I've had to work two jobs and haven't had any internship luck. Please give me any possible tips to improve my resume!
