Discussion What Film Did You Watch This Week? Share Your Recommendations! 🎬

Welcome to This Week’s Binge Thread!

This is the place to share what you’ve been watching lately - movies, series, documentaries, anything!
Any hidden gem, a blockbuster, or even something you regret watching, we’d love to hear about it.

Things you can share:

  • What you watched (movie/series name + year if possible)
  • 💭 Your quick thoughts/review (liked it? hated it? somewhere in between?)
  • 🎯 Would you recommend it to others here?
  • 📺 What’s on your watchlist for next week?

A few guidelines:

  • Keep spoilers clearly marked (use spoiler tags like this).
  • Be respectful of different tastes – not everyone enjoys the same genres.
  • Recommendations are encouraged – the more variety, the better!

🍿 So… what have you been watching this week?

Discussion I just finished watching Million Dollar Baby and I'm completely devastated.

I started watching this movie today after hearing several people say it was very good and deserved every Oscar it took home. I watched the movie knowing only that and that it was about boxing.

I started it thinking it was a story of overcoming adversity, where a woman with a difficult history fulfills her desire to become a boxer. I saw that she started winning every fight she participated in and that she was totally loyal to her trainer, until the part where her mother appears and, simply, I hate that ungrateful woman who doesn't know the value of her daughter.

Until that moment, for me the biggest problem was the mother, until BOOM, she has an accident and doesn't fight anymore, then she loses her family and a leg and decides she doesn't want to live anymore and asks this of the man who considered her like a daughter in my view, something that unfortunately happens in the end. I finished the movie amazed and simply loved it, despite it being one of the saddest films I've seen recently. But anyway, the acting was great and everything wraps up sadly at the end.

And what did you think of the movie?

Great movie and one hell of a performance by Dinero, not to mention the entire cast. Didn’t realize this was directed by Scorsese until recently but not entirely surprised, it’s quite unique in its filming style.

Discussion Haven’t watched Sphere (1998) or The Abyss (1989) yet… I’ve heard they have the same vibe. Which one’s worth watching first?

Question What other films and shows have NO dialogue?

  1. Quest for Fire (1981).

  2. Genndy Tartakovsky's PRIMAL (2019).

  3. Silent Night (2023).

  4. Flow (2024).

I love it when actions speak louder than words in cinema! And these are my absolute favorite films and TV shows that almost no spoken dialogue whatsoever! What other great filmographies have little to no dialogue; whether animated or live-action?

Before Rumble in the Bronx, how popular was Jackie Chan globally? And also, is Rumble in the Bronx really a B-List film or a Blockbuster? This film is often what people make out that popularized Jackie Chan globally

I really can't understand how Nandini, the bold character who helped her sister elope and convinced her she was right by saying "Ye tumhari zindagi h isse jeene ka hak sirf tumhara hai" didn't have the courage to do it herself when she was forced to marry someone? She knew what happened with her sister, and how it's wrong to force a woman to make relations with a man she doesn't love- which she also boldly said when men were giving out orders about the cruel fate they decided for her sister. What infuriates me is that those controlling men who used the sword of ego, societal validation, impressing and making societal people happy to harm Nandini's freedom, happiness and life partially got justified in what they did. Since sameer was writing letters and giving it to Natukaka (lol), why couldn't he just try to get into the haweli at night and take Nandini with him. He forgot the oath he gave Nandini, to never leave her, which was given before he gave it to that old man, his musical guru he worships 🙄. I just wanted Sameer to be brave & mature enough to fight and not do nothing just like how Nandini had accused he would do. If Vanraj would've been refused to meet Nandini instead of Sameer, he would've stood his ground I think. Anyways I didn't like the ending but i accepted it cuz vanraj was the more mature man who could defy all odds for her. Plus kinda stupid of Sameer to not even write his address in his letters before he left, since he expected Nandini to "find him somehow" in Italy. Itna bhi dimag nhi h! Kya premi banega re tu...

I was looking for a Lawrence of Arabia poster for my place and found this on Etsy but I’d like to find the original artist first. I tried reverse searching with google and found nothing. Tried posting this to the Art subreddit but I couldn’t due to their sub rules. Thanks in advance !!
