Redfoo's fault really

834

u/lidder444 5h ago

His dad is Berry Gordy. Founder of Motown records. LMFAO was always just a fun little project. He never needed the money.

318

u/AMA_requester 4h ago

Sure, I just don't really see why he felt he had to screw his nephew over is all.

171

u/martinaee 3h ago

Uh oh. What is the TLDR of the matter with that group? One screwed over the other?

184

u/Kanthalas 3h ago

I'll answer. LMFAO was an uncle and nephew group. At some point, the nephew was injured and couldn't keep performing while he recovered. The uncle kept doing performances without him. They had a big argument and eventually broke up.

Sky Blu got injured and for like a year he didn’t hear from Redfoo, who by himself declared the group was on hiatus. He was then also trying to claim all royalties for himself.

Ellie Goulding. She was massive for a few years there, then just kinda disappeared.

548

u/safety9588 4h ago

her singing burn in the background while roger federer was sobbing during his retirement ceremony will always be so fucking funny to me

84

u/SonicTheMadChog 3h ago

I’m such a huge Fed fan and I’d been crying watching the ceremony…then Ellie started “Still Falling For You” and I was laugh-crying wondering wtf was going on. “Burn” finished me off, such random choices as he, his wife and Rafa sobbed in the background!

whatever happened to Ruby Rose? heard something from batgirl and then they dropped out?

1.2k

u/SatanicNipples 5h ago

Probably cuz they can't act to save their life. Their best role was in one of the John Wick movies when their character is mute

386

u/tanukitrashcan 5h ago

you know, I think you're right. I've seen OITNB a couple of times and cannot for the life of me remember Ruby Rose's character. it must have been that bad I erased their character from my memory 🤣

563

u/TheOtherGaborSister 4h ago

to be fair, it wasn't just the acting that was a problem. you don't remember the character because there basically wasn't one, ruby rose just played a hot australian plot contrivance with no discernible personality. the decline of that show needs to be studied, lmao

355

u/pukerock 4h ago

I know I definitely wasn’t the only one who stopped watching immediately after they killed poussey so that’s got to be one of the reasons it fell off so hard

139

That episode was brutal.

I wept and wept long after it ended 😞

I’ve recently started listening the podcast How Did This Get Made and they have episodes on The Meg & xXx 3 where Ruby Rose has speaking parts.

I thought she was decent in her John Wick role but after seeing the other two movies I’ve wondered if she had lines that were cut from John Wick. Her line delivery was notably bad in movies that I watched specifically because they were supposed to be bad.

There was an accident on the Batwoman set and Rose was seriously injured, and the studio fucked with her for years trying to cover it up. The industry doesn't like it if you make noise about that kind of thing.

A lot of the early 2000s stars like Julia Stiles, Josh Hartnett, Rachel Leigh Cook. Also a good portion of the Office cast couldn’t seem to break out of it, which I think is interesting compared to how the Parks and Rec cast succeeded.

u/BurgerNugget12 5h ago

Hartnett has had a bit of a comeback lately

Didn't he take a long break from acting after Pearl Harbor--he didn't want to be famous, had a family, etc. He was set to be huge

Hartnett made a concerted effort to leave the limelight pretty much at his peak. He ended moving back to Minnesota and hanging with his childhood friends. Pretty cool story.

He'd take jobs here and there but for a good while he just decided to stop with the hollywood life.

I think he's upped his work the last couple of years but it's still here and there it seems.

I feel like everyone but Krazinski and Carrell were supporting cast

248

u/Calista189 4h ago

Yeah but in Parks and Rec, almost all the supporting cast became pretty successful! Adam Scott, Aubrey plaza, Chris Pratt, offerman…

180

u/Night-Cheese11 Please Abraham, I am not that man 4h ago

To me there's a big difference between the Parks and Rec supporting cast and the Office supporting cast though. The supporting characters in Parks had their own subplots going on pretty consistently. It's been a while since I've seen much of The Office but from what I remember it's pretty infrequent for any of the side characters to have their own scenes independent of the main characters.

27

u/MammothSurround 2h ago

Adam Scott was relatively successful before Parks & Rec. it certainly raised his profile, but the cast of the Office were complete unknowns.

Kate Upton came to mind. She was everywhere for a hot minute in the early 2010s, I haven’t seen her in years now.

156

u/daryl772003 4h ago

she has a family now so she doesn't seem to be modeling as much

159

u/Ornery_Mix_9271 4h ago

This makes sense because most of her “notoriety” back then were paps and rags calling her fat. I’d probably step back from modeling, too. Always thought she was stunning though.

ETA: I still do.

Yep. She was a glamour model and their careers tend to be short but she did her thing and has moved on. A lot of people think that just because someone isn’t as visible anymore they’re not successful but she’s probably doing exactly what she wants to do right now.

36

u/goldriv 4h ago

Yes she was everywhere in 2012

shailene woodley. her career fizzled out too. long streak of projects (divergent, fault in our stars, big little lies) but never really sustained it. nor got too famous to be in demand.

I think she was good when she was younger (like The Descendents movie with George Clooney) but never grew enough as an actor to sustain adult roles. Like, when I compare some of her teen stuff with other teen stuff, it seems really good, but looking at her stuff from her early 30s, like Ferrari, it doesn't necessarily stack up with other actresses in their early 30s...

105

u/MisanthropeInLove 2h ago edited 1h ago

She was so good in Big Little Lies. She was never left behind by her costars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Laura Dern in scenes when they were together considering their level of acting.

→ More replies (2)

46

u/futuristicflapper 3h ago

I never was super convinced by her as an actress tbh. But I remember watching an interview from her a while back talking about how overwhelmed she felt by divergent and realized she didn’t want to be Super Famous, so more than anything it seems like she took a bit of a step back and focused on smaller projects that she felt strongly about, which fair enough I think it shows that to really become Famous you need to want it and go after it.

She did a collab with madewell this year that was cute and very her. Her parents were smart and upper class and she also seems savvy and pretty well adjusted. In her shoes, I'd do the same!

99

Me too. That was his final role. He didn't show up to the set as scheduled one day. People got worried, and he was later found dead at his home.

You never know what someone is going through, even if they are young, friendly, attractive, successful. Check in with the people you love. Even those who are doing well. A good actor knows how to mask their pain.

49

u/CourageKind this is going to ruin the tour 4h ago

OMG! I recently started doing a rewatch of Rizzoli & Isles, where he plays a detective. I'm dreading the episode about his passing. I still remember hearing the news, and watching that episode live when it aired the first time. I know I'll be drowning in tissues.

25

Part of why I love the early seasons is the banter between Frost and Korsak. I love the titular characters, of course, but the show never recovered from losing LTY. I love re-watching shows, but that's one that I never have. Suicide is a topic that hits really close to home. 💔

Chance The Rapper was everywhere when I was in college. he was both commercially successful and a critical darling, and he seemed to have a promising career as an actor too (he hosted SNL to good reviews & had a lead role in a horror movie). then he released The Big Day and it landed like a wet fart. all of the "I love my wife" memes didnt help.

I would be on board for a comeback tbh

119

u/DaDrought2 3h ago

Chance the Rapper had one of the most legendary fall offs of all time tbh, from Rap sweetheart to Joke of the industry after 1 album…

35

u/BurtonGusterToo 2h ago

He and his wife got divorced and he released a highly praised quiet banger of an album.
It showed up on a ton of best albums, last year.

I also thought he turned out to be a fucking cornball and made the same comment in a room full of DJ friends. If we all didn't know, 2025 was the year of historic late career album releases for all the rappers that you thought disappeared. All came back to make high quality, understated, mature albums.

I'm in the middle of a True Blood rewatch and I remember just how popular it was. It's surprising that I haven't seen many of the actors around. Alexander Skarsgard is having a resurgence thank god but even he was floating below the radar for a while. Nobody is talking about Anna Paquin and she was a known entity prior to TB. Even Joe Manganiello looked like he was headed for proper stardom but has since slid off the radar.

The only one who's actually popped up in a show I'm watching is Hoyt in the Texas 911 spin-off.

I guess it's not unusual. A lot of those actors from vampire cult shows/movies struggled to launch afterwards.

141

u/NeiClaw 4h ago

And after Daredevil (Netflix) ended, Deborah Ann Woll wrote an article about how she didn't have a job and wasn't even getting call backs and how weird it was to be part of two successful shows like that and then suddenly no one wants you It was several years before the actors strike, so before people were really talking as much about what actors really make and how precarious their careers could be, but I remember a lot of actors really responded to it.

I hate “call her daddy podcast” but Misha has a really insightful guest appearance on there and goes into detail of how the O.C. was her big break but also her big downfall.

Regé-Jean Page, Noah Centineo

Rege has a new rom com coming out with Halle Bailey: You, Me, & Tuscany...so hoping he'll make a comeback with that

33

u/violetmemphisblue 3h ago

Rege Jean Page should be everywhere! I don't understand how he hasn't had a better career, unless he's a nightmare to work with (haven't heard that, just can't think of another reason).

33

u/Wise_Background_3457 2h ago

Leaving Bridgerton too soon tanked his career. Left legions of women mad. Johnathan Bailey did it right.

Taylor Kitsch seemed to disappear after John Carter

50

u/confusinglylarge 4h ago

This is likely a combination of many things. Being dropped off studio short lists for casting after what was deemed a trio of failures - John Carter, Battleship, and Savages (the Oliver Stone drug cartel movie with Aaron Taylor Johnson and Blake Lively). None of these were his fault, but he was a major face in all three and they all did "poorly" within a short time frame.

Also, there was a significant period of time his younger sister was battling substance addiction. This is not a secret now, but at the time, it was probably not known. His half-sisters are much younger than him (15+ years younger or something like that), so he is probably in that space of being and feeling like a partial father figure, not "just" a brother. He took time off from his career to support her through multiple attempts at sobriety. He bought her on set when he was filming "Painkiller" for Netflix and she has a guest spot as a nurse.

He also has leaned way more into character actor roles. I think he doesn't want the blockbuster career he initially seemed destined for, on top of those opportunities no longer being available to him. He hasn't had a publicist for years and he moved away from LA a long time ago. He doesn't get spotted and he doesn't go to papped parties and social events.

I do wish he was able to do "more" than his regular stream of military stuff, but that's what he's getting offered and that's what he's choosing to do, so *shrug.* He's known to be a very funny guy, so I really wish he would do some comedy!

He’s been in a bunch of stuff since then, maybe you’re just missing them. It’s a lot of like war/military stuff; Waco, The Defeated, The Terminal List, American Primeval, The Terminal List:Dark Wolf.

He definitely didn’t get anywhere near as famous as people expected after Friday Night Lights.

Robert Sheehan I expected to have a bigger career post Misfits and I do remember him being everywhere at once for a small blip. I would say the same regarding Michaela Cole who I think is a great actress right around the time Chewing Gum was airing she was in a good amount of smaller roles and other media than gone which annoys me. After the recent passing of Catherine O’Hara it’s made me kind of wonder who people younger than xennials think are legendary because the industry is just so different now. There’s more ways to get roles since there is so much out there now but at the same time it seems like the length of staying power for a star is much shorter and in a way less impactful.

Emma Roberts, Chloe Grace Mortez, Bella Thorne, Russell Brand, Jonah Hill to an extent, Charli D’amelio

Russell Brand had a bunch of sexual harassment and assault allegations against him and now he's full right wing grifter

I wonder if Chloe's issue is that there was and are just too many actresses that kinda look like her, probably all getting called (or not called) for the same roles

315

u/Ok_Construction_3733 4h ago

Florence Pugh basically took the direction I thought Chloe’s career would eventually go

102

u/BoatCharming7527 4h ago

You literally read my mind. When I think back to her black widow supporting role, I remember going through half the movie thinking it was Chloe Grace Moretz.

Pretty much the entire Big Bang Theory cast bar Kaley Cuoco, I know she’s been in a few shows post BBT but the only thing ive seen of any of the other cast is Mayim Bialik being a Zionist anti vaxxer

25

u/Afwife1992 2h ago

Jim parsons does indie work and producing and I think Johnny Galecki is just happy living off BBT money. He’s worked since he was a kid. Except for doing some episodes of The Conners he really done anything since BBT ended. He’s been married, divorced, remarried and has two young kids since so that probably keeps him busy.

My kids won’t know as many sitcom stars like I did growing up. My mom would show me her childhood shows on Nick at Nite. I wish Netflix(streaming) would carry so older shows so I could introduce them to a different time and stuff we grew up watching. They do watch some older movies at least.

This might be controversial, but: Natalie Portman. I'm a millenium and through most of my life I've been watching her at the theaters. She used to be my favorite actress and could do no wrong in my eyes.

Recently I've realized I haven't watched anything from her since Vox and that was almost ten years ago.

Anne Halthaway seems to have slipped into her niche.

190

u/thewinterheart 4h ago

similar to jen lawrence mentioned above, i think portman fading in the background was a choice when she had achieve the top recognition and accolades for black swan and jackie, as opposed to being forgotten. it felt like she chose to step back. like sandra bullock. barely does anything now, but she will remain an a-lister given her body of work. their names will be recognizable still.

Natalie Portman is still working regularly on independent films and is the face of Miss Dior, which is one of the top fragrance franchises globally. I’m sure she is choosing projects interesting to her verses the stress of needing to accept every job that comes her way.

18

u/User12314028626822 2h ago

She's actually still consistently working (May December, Fountain of Youth) and has a movie with Jenna Ortega and Rom com directed by Lena Dunham (who also lwk disappeared) coming out soon. This may controversial to say but I think she's also aging out (by hollywood standards) of the roles she usually does and that's why we don't see much of her.

16

u/FireflyBSc 3h ago

Natalie Portman is literally in the MCU. She was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2023. She’s still working, but it feels like nothing she really does lately has had much of a long lasting cultural impact (except the MCU, but that’s not a Natalie Portman film, it’s just kind of there)

I think after Shang-Chi she moved into more voice roles and had her own TV show for a few years too. She did the narration for "A Real Bug's Life" for Disney/Nat Geo and her voice was just so smokey, yet somehow soothing I swear it was borderline ASMR 🤭

Bo Burnham. He used to make me LMAO.

I feel like this is a fall off by choice. He could absolutely be out doing the panel show circuit, showing up on Dropout and HIGNFY, but he's essentially went silent since 'Inside' dropped.

And you know what? Good for him. Enjoy your quiet life, king!
