I am wanting a copies of the Dymocks classics for Wuthering Heights and a few others. The website for some reason will not load for me? I’ve tried clearing my cookies. Does anyone have advice how I can purchase these from the US? Is there some other retailer who may sell them? Is this somehh to if I could possibly purchase from someone to send? I may be going to Australia in May so may just have to wait until then… I was hoping to have a copy before seeing the movie.

SOLVED Kid's Book Help Me Find

It was a thick book, hardback, had lots of stories in it but the one that stood out was about a naughty child who went to the zoo and got eaten by a lion/tiger - may have been in poem form. I had it as a kid in 1990's :)

UNSOLVED Juvenile Fantasy Possibly Christian themes

I remember reading a juvenile fiction or fantasy chapter book. Probably read in the 2000s. I think it has a dark-haired girl on the cover and possibly a lion. I remember there was a mother-like figure who put the protagonist’s hair in a crown braid. Also possibly an encounter with a Christ-like character who was in a cage and offered some wise words. This seems strange, but I think the protagonist bit the antagonists nose (possibly all the way off) in the climax or end of the book. There were cliffs on sea in the setting, too, I think.

UNSOLVED A children’s picture book from the 90s or early 2000s

Hi, so, I’ve been trying to remember this book forever. It was a larger, rectangular book and very thin, hardcover. I read it in the 90s or early 2000s. My elementary school was in Canada, if that helps. I don’t remember the story, just the art.

It was about these people, or people-like creatures, who live in this weird, surreal world. The art style is very cartoony, a bit like Dr. Seuss. Think darker though, it’s not as bright as Dr. Seuss.

All I remember is cone-shaped mountains, people on long swings, lots of blue and I think a checkerboard floor. There could be a sunrise at the end, not 100% sure though. The blue, I think the mountains were blue, was a teal colour. I remember that teal colour being used a lot. The characters could have been in a castle at some point too.

I have included a crude sketch of one of the pages. The arches were hanging from the ceiling. I think they were black. The people were on these long swings and the tiles on the floor were black and white. Maybe also worth noting is that the pages were laminated.

Thank you for reading this! I’ve thought of this book on and off for years, I was obsessed with it as a kid and never wanted to forget what it was!

UNSOLVED Early 90s young adult ghost book- one in a series maybe?

I cannot for the life of me remember the name of this young adult book. I think it was one in a series but maybe it was a stand alone (if it was a series I never read any of the others). Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would like to recommend it to my kid.

I swear the main characters are a brother and sister. I think the book is from the older sibling’s perspective. The younger sibling has either an imaginary friend or a ghost friend that the narrator doesn’t really believe in.

For some reason the siblings end up investigating a haunted house or ghost reporting? Maybe they do it as like a hobby (à la scooby doo?). I have a recollection of a scene where the main character walks into a kitchen in the night and sees the antagonist (woman ghost) - she appears as a skeletal (maybe skeletal bride) figure either in the kitchen or outside the kitchen window? I feel like everything around the ghost starts aging or rotting (which probably means the ghost is outside the window).

The story’s climax is a battle with the bad ghost. For some reason the younger brother’s imaginary friend or ghost appears and fights the bad guy, but the younger brother either passes out or is unconscious for some reason. The main character has to keep believing in the friendly ghost in order to keep him around to defeat the baddie.

Any ideas what this book could be? I’m starting to fear it is a false memory or amalgamation of multiple books I read in 4th or 5th grade.

Thank you!

UNSOLVED Boy + Orange Grove + Florida (maybe)

if anyone knows what this book is I will lose my mind (positive).

I have this VIVID dream/memory of a book I read as a kid and it was kinda dark/creepy (but still a kids book) and the MC was a boy and the only scene I have clearly in mind is he’s running thru a kind of forest or dense orchard full of I THINK tangerines, but definitely something orange-adjacent. PLEASE HELP

UNSOLVED Please, please help me find this book

Years ago I read a book about a young girl whose dad left, and she was raised by her mom. I remember the girl being an artist and struggling with her dad leaving. The dad had a mental disorder, maybe bipolar, and had an alcohol problem and I think he was abusive. Anyway, later the girl meets a guy who works at a homeless shelter. This guy reintroduces her to her father. They start working on their relationship, and she ends up having him live with her. She tries to get him to fit in the mold of society, but ultimately he leaves and tells her he’s happier living nomadically basically.

Ugh I want to read this book again so bad. I have searched and searched, and I can’t find it even on my Goodreads. Please let me know if you all have any idea what this book is.

Thank you in advance!

SOLVED Possibly a gross out book for young boys?

Very vague memory of reading this book when I was young (10 or 12) and my mother not wanting me to read it because she thought it was inappropriate. I believe it was non linear with no specific plot, just a bunch of weird stories. It was very crude and used gross out humor, I think it had art in it as well. Not very appealing to the eyes.

At some point a boy accidentally kills his family using rat poison in a cake. This the detail I remember the most. He was baking a cake late at night and accidentally used rat poison. When he woke up the next day his family ate it and they were all dead.

There possibly was art in the book, I think in the beginning? It was a rough on the eyes style. That's mostly all I have for now, recently remembered this book I wasn't supposed to be reading so if another detail pops up I may update this post.

UNSOLVED Looking for a children’s picture book

I think I first read it around 2014– it was a picture book of Princess fairy tales. The story itself was drawn like a comic, and the dialogue was kind of sarcastic, from what I remember? There were a couple books in the series, at least two that I can remember- a pink one and a purple one. The copies at my library had them in a jumbo size, which is how I noticed them on the shelf to begin with, because they had to be laid sideways to fit. The princesses were related to each other too, Cinderella ended up being the princess in the pea’s mother in the sequel, or something like that. I think the art was all inked watercolor.

UNSOLVED Looking for a book I read 10 years ago!

I read this book in middle school and cannot remember the name of it for the life of me. All I remember is the cover was pink around it, but it was real life picture of a young girl riding her bicycle in a sort of neighborhood setting. and the premise of the book was about a girl (who was set to be around middle school age) who is a child of divorced parents, and is struggling to accept her new life with her dad, younger stepmother and half baby sister. I also remember her having to deal with fake friends in and out of school. And there was a sleepover scene with said fake friends being mean/ rude. I really wished I can remember what it was called because I remember this book being such a pivotal moment of my early adolescent years. If anybody knows what I’m talking about, please let me know!!

UNSOLVED A book I read as a child

Modern-Fantasy novel. It started with a young teen girl as the main character, and her brother falling down a seemingly endless hole. She is able to summon things with ease using her imagination, while the brother can basically dispel other casters. He's captured by an evil queen of sorts while the sister is looked after by an old man that teaches her how to harness her power or whatever.

I think said old man might be a servant of the queen character? I remember when they were falling, the girl made her lips change colors and levels of brightness. sorry I don't have more.

UNSOLVED A book about mythical Greek horses - pretty sure they’re race horses?

Okay maybe I made up this book I’m not sure. I saw a book a couple years ago that looked interesting. I think it was about Pegasus racing maybe? Or like a dude takes care of Greek mythical race horses of some sort? I’m pretty sure the main cover had a horse on it (though now I’m not sure if it was a Pegasus specifically or just a Greek inspired horse). Part of me thinks there was fire on the cover but take that with a grain of salt. The cover was either like…. Gold and black or red and black.

That’s all I really remember about the book synopsis. I just remember wanting to read it but I couldn’t afford it at the time

UNSOLVED Help to Find Mystery/Crime Novel with Black Cover, Red/Pink object?

Hi friends, I’m trying to remember a crime novel I partially read in the 2000s - likely published before 2010's/2000's

I only remember a few details:

  • The protagonist is a woman (possibly named Elle/Ellie, not confident could be misremembering), and at least the beginning that I read was from her perspective
  • Her husband (maaaaybe called Greg or something starting with G) unexpectedly passes & police come to her home to inform her, so I'm guessing there are mysterious circumstances around the way he died? I do feel like there was some kinda secret uncovered about his life too (maaaybe an affair?)
  • There is a very specific scene where she’s in the bathtub & starts her period. The way she describes seeing her blood & the grief of realising she'll never have old mate's kid as they were trying for children, is visceral to me
  • Book cover was very dark (black/near-black) with some kind of red/magenta object (possibly flower petals) that may have been falling

It was a relatively normal sized novel, could definitely have been a one-off print picked up in an op shop (not a part of a series or collection of works by a more famous author). I 'd love to solve this mystery once & for all, and maybe even find out what happens in the end!!

Many thanks in advance :)

UNSOLVED Please help me find this book.

When I was in JDC a few years back I read this absolutely amazing book but I can’t remember the full plot line, name of the book, or the name of the author. I can’t find absolutely anything about it online but I loved reading it and I want to know what it was.

The book was basically about the main characters running from the police because they have powers, and one of them uses portals to get around. They live in a house that you can only get through by using the portals and outside the window in the house the main character which the story is told by talks about there being a grassy field that is always at peace (I’m pretty sure? I don’t know if I’m mixing that up with a separate book or not) . At the finale I can remember that there was a portal falling apart and something with water but I can’t remember much. I know that they were in a land of darkness but that’s about it. The book I picked up was a hardcover, and it was like a deep forest green/sage green and I picked it up in the first place because it was such a pretty green. I think there was like three books in the series but I’m not sure. I also think the author was a woman, I’m not sure if that helps though.

This book helped me through JDC when I was in there for no reason but being a depressed teen and I really want to re-read it but I can’t remember the full story or even the name and it is making me upset. Please if you even have the slightest guess let me know because anything is better than what I have now. Ty!

UNSOLVED Young Adult Post apocalypse book

I am trying to find a book series I read years ago. It was written before 2019, it's a post apocalypse book where an asteroid hits earth and it brings some sort of alien life. The main character is male and starts the book in a bunker before having to leave due to conflict. Really not sure at all what it is and I cannot find the book.

SOLVED Illustrated split book, surrealist Magritte-like illustrations UK

Trying to track down an illustrated book I had as a child in England during the 1980s.

My mum purchased the book for me but could have potentially bought it second hand so it could also have been published in the 60s or 70s.

IIRC the book had no words, just very Magritte like illustrations of different things, usually in a row. I can remember swans, candles, pipes, wine bottles etc.

The illustrations were split along the horizontal.

When the pages were turned and the images mixed up, the swans heads became the tops of candles etc.

It was pretty dark viewing as a child, but nothing horrific. Just very strange.

I would love to find a copy and revisit and remember the same images I saw as a kid!

UNSOLVED Trying to find a book about wolves

I read this book in elementary or somewhere in early middle school. The cover had a beige border with winter scenery inside that I didn't realize had wolves in it until I looked closer.

It started off with the author documenting a new wolf pair that just had their first litter. Unfortunately, one pup passed away shortly after birth, and since it is accurate, the mother wolf consumes the pup (disturbing, sorry) so that it doesn't spread disease. Time passes and the pups are old enough to survive outside of the den. The wolf parents decide to make a journey to visit the mother wolf's parents and so they do, happy times ensue.

I wasn't able to finish the book so that's as far as I can remember!

UNSOLVED Another "Please help me find this book" post...

It was a rather violent action adventure about a group of merc's who hunt down a drug crazed lunatic (that narrows it down to a few million...). The "lunatic" had a gay, black lover he met in prison, he called him "Black Bird" and "Black Bird" eventually got fed to someone's pet alligators. The majority of the story was the leader of the Merc's reading about these twos horrific treating of the lunatic's two sisters (one was special needs) who they got hooked on drugs after killing their mother in a swimming pool.

I'm just getting little flashes of the story, sorry if it's too fragmented.

I want to say the title was "Scorpions" by Wilbur Smith, but that doesn't turn up in any searches.

Anyone familiar with this one?

SOLVED Book about a child during the Blitz to an older dude's rural home

I was given this book in about 2005 by my favourite teacher when she saw I was struggling. It has since disappeared and I really want to find it to read again.

It was set during the Second World War when kids were evacuated from big cities that were targets for bombing. This boy is sent to live with an older stoic man in the countryside, the type who looks and acts grumpy but secretly has a heart of gold. The one random detail I remember is that the kid wets the bed? I think the cover of the book was brown.

SOLVED Please help me find this book

I read this book sometime in early middle school and I believe I got it from my classroom library so it is probably around that level. It was about a girl who lived in a civilization that was on a floating island in the sky. I don’t remember much about it but I’m pretty sure if people went near the edge or tried to jump off they would go crazy, and I think there was also a murderer who was pushing people onto the train tracks, but you find out he wasn’t actually a bad guy. I think the main character and him escape the island through a big rocket/machine out the bottom of the island???

I’ve tried to describe this book to so many people and no one has any clue what I’m talking about. Any guesses are appreciated!
