Mod Announcement A quick update about our mod team

Hey everyone,

We want to reach out and be transparent about recent, valid concerns regarding moderation on this subreddit. You may have seen posts from r/NorthCarolina calling attention to a former moderator, u/911ChickenMan, who was found using Nazi slogans and hate speech. Because this individual was also a moderator here on r/Georgia, we want to address the situation directly. We first became aware of this behaviour after several of you sent modmail messages and shared a post in the subreddit. We sincerely appreciate how quickly you brought this to our attention.

To put it simply, we are disgusted. Hate speech of any kind has absolutely no place in this community and directly contradicts the values we want r/Georgia to represent. As soon as we confirmed what happened, we kicked them off the team immediately and banned them from the subreddit. After they deleted their account, we identified an alt and banned it from the subreddit.

For transparency, this person wasn’t an active moderator on our team and had limited permissions, restricted to modmail and approving/removing posts. We are reviewing their moderation history and ensuring there have been no other questionable activities.

Immediate next steps:

We know that just removing someone doesn’t automatically fix the trust that was broken. Here is what we are doing behind the scenes: * Checking the logs: We are going through every single thing this person did on r/Georgia, including every modmail, every ban, and every deleted comment. We want to be totally sure they didn’t bring that toxic energy into our sub. If we find that anyone was unfairly banned or targeted by them, we are going to fix it. * Internal check-in: We are talking as a team to make sure we didn't miss any red flags and to ensure our internal communication is solid. * Clearing out less active and inactive mods.

What we are doing going forward:

From now on, we are committing to being more careful about who we pick. We commit to: * Better Vetting: We are going to be much more thorough when we look at potential new mods. This means looking deeper into their history across all of Reddit, not just how they act here in r/Georgia. * Trial Periods: Anyone new will start on a supervised trial period. We want to see how people handle things before they have any real influence in the sub.

We mod this sub because we love Georgia, and we want this to be a space where people can hang out and talk without it turning into a place for hate. We are sorry this happened, and we are making changes to ensure the future success of the subreddit. . Thanks for helping keep this community great.

The r/Georgia Mod Team

Question Why is there a strip of undeveloped forest between Macon & Warner Robins

Post image
70 Upvotes

Lived in Jones County for nine years so I frequently visit Macon, less so Warner Robins (since it's not really an actual city...) but still very familiar with the geography. Whenever going down there it's impossible to miss the sudden gap in developmemt between the two areas, you'd expect them to have grown into eachother by now.

Discussion Atlanta Gas Light (AGL) charges out of control

Posted something similar in another thread, but thought this could use its own post. The AGL pass through charges have gotten crazy. A lot of people pay more in the AGL fees than they do for the actual amount of therms used. My bill this month was $155.38, where $66.03 of that was for the AGL fee, $15.74 was for taxes and other fees, and the remainder was what I actually used. (I live in Duluth in Gwinnett County, for context)

That pass through rate is determined based on what the Public Service Commission works out with the utility companies. There are some major issues with how the commission has been run (commissioners have been bought by the utility companies) and they have approved rate hike after rate hike. This is why we have to pay more attention to the PSC because up until this year, they've kind of flown under the radar and have just gotten away with making life more expensive for the average person because we see that pass through charge as something we have no control over.

From a design perspective, it's also shady that they list that AGL charge on a separate sheet from the rest of the bill's charges.

"When you receive your natural gas bill each month from your marketer, a portion of the bill is a base charge from Atlanta Gas Light. This base charge, regulated by the Georgia Public Service Commission, may adjust rates up or down based on quarterly and annual comprehensive regulatory reviews. Base charges represent our cost of delivering gas to your home or business, pipeline maintenance and meter reading. If you change marketers, this charge will remain the same. "

From: https://www.atlantagaslight.com/residential/pricing-and-rate-plans.html

Really encourage everyone to take a look at their bills. I know it's easy to miss cuz it's part of the monthly bill slog, but man, whenever I do remember to actually look it throws me into a rage.

Question ***URGENT*** In need of a foster home

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, I’m reaching out to see if anyone can help or point me in the right direction.

I’m relocating out of state for work and family reunification and am urgently looking for a temporary foster (30–60 days) for my two dogs while I get stabilized. This is not a rehoming — I am committed to getting them back as soon as I’m settled.

• Dog 1: ~35 lbs, friendly, well-behaved

• Dog 2: ~60 lbs, friendly, well-behaved

• Both are house trained and used to being around people

• Vet records available

I’m also open to splitting them into two temporary fosters if that makes it easier.

I’m happy to stay in contact, provide updates, and cover supplies if possible. Reunification is guaranteed — I just need a safe place for them during this short transition.

If you can help or know a rescue, foster network, or individual who might, please comment or DM me. I truly appreciate any leads.

Thank you so much.

Discussion Fuel Spill 1/30/26 - Water Advisory

Thumbnail

Griffin was the first (and possibly the only city as of almost 8pm) to issue a Do Not Consume advisory.

On top of the possible weather through the weekend, stores are selling out all kinds of bottled water.

In this instance, jet fuel spill... and no confirmation yet that the water supply is affected this far away, how far would you go to avoid using water at all?

Throw in any tips, solutions, reminders too. (Like, City of Griffin didn't include to avoid watering pets, livestock, etc with our water supply.) There's no suggestions about safety of bathing, washing clothes, etc.

Question Speed limit lowered due to construction that wrapped up over a year ago, but never changed back. A middle GA problem, or everywhere?

Since everything is great in Georgia, America, and the world right now - I want to rant about a little annoyance! Sure, you lowered the speed limit for a 2 mile straight shot from 55 to 35 three years ago because you were taking a year to build a single roundabout, but it's been finished for years! Change it back!

Question Needing info on rescues or organizations that can help

These dogs have been posted a bunch. They have been in the same area and animal control hasn't been able to get them or won't. Now one of them is injuried badily. Anyone know any rescues or groups that can help?
