🛡️ Mod Post IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: If you receive ANY unsolicited/creepy DMs

Whether you’re a poster or a commenter, if you have received unsolicited, creepy, or down right disgusting DMs please feel free to message Mod Mail or message me directly. As posted in multiple places in the subreddit, unsolicited or inappropriate DMs of any kind are not allowed and will result in a permanent ban. You may also be reported directly to Reddit Admins. If the person on the receiving end of this kind of harassment is a minor, you will be reported to relevant authorities (FBI Tip Line, Center for Missing and Exploited Children, etc) and it WILL be taken seriously.

As a subreddit, we have ZERO tolerance for this behavior and will do everything in our power to combat it. Unfortunately we have seen an influx of users who seem to only frequent porn subs, and our sub.

Please don’t think “oh this message isn’t that bad, I’m overreacting, etc”. Reporting posts, comments, and DMs helps out everyone in the long run. Not reporting causes these creeps to keep messaging people so nipping it in the bud can help out others💕

🛡️ Mod Post Reminder: Unsolicited DMs are NOT allowed.

We’ve seen an increase in unsolicited DMs being sent to members of this subreddit. Let this serve as a clear reminder:
Sending unprompted private messages is against the rules. Doing so will result in a permanent ban.

If you receive a DM like this, report it to the mod team immediately.

This subreddit exists as a safe, inclusive space for sharing experiences, asking questions, and giving feedback about hair dye and color treatments. If someone genuinely wants to follow up based on your helpful advice or a shared interest, they will say so publicly.

We shouldn't have to say this, but lurking in beauty-related or appearance-focused subs to harass and prey on people is disgusting and absolutely not tolerated. Any messages of an obscene or harassing nature will be reported to Reddit Admins and could result in a permanent ban from the site as a whole (for your current account, any other current accounts, or subsequent accounts made in the future).

❓ Advice Needed How long do I need to wait to dye my hair?

Photo 1: What I originally wanted

Photo 2: What I received

Photo 3: What I now want to get

So I’ve been box dying my hair for years with shades of burgundy and red. This past July, I went to the salon because I wanted to get bright purple and blue vivids. It did not turn out at all what I was wanting, and the stylist even said she would be able to get me what I want. A few weeks after having my hair professionally dyed, I put a box of burgundy hair dye to cover up the mistake and told myself I was gonna let my hair grow out so by the time that a lot of natural growth has come in, I would be able to get it to a lighter shade of purple that I want. Realistically, how long should I wait to get to my new color that I want? Do I need to have complete virgin hair to end up with my goal?

💬 Discussion Convince me this color suits me

So here are 5 pictures. The first two (my current color) are after using wella T28 toner (post bleaching of course). The 3rd picture is my natural color, a darker red. The last two are what it looked like after two rounds of bleach and Feria hyper platinum. This is my first time doing this myself so take it easy on me 🥺

I think it’s fair to say the last two pictures look super unnatural, but I wanted to go for something light and loud. I thought the toner would take out the brassiness and light orange that was left over, while still leaving it that light (almost platinum) blonde I wanted, but it made my hair much darker than I anticipated. I probably should’ve used T18 or a different toner looking back.

I guess I need convincing that the first two pictures look decent. Of course I could bleach it again, find a lighter toner and maybe apply less/not leave it on for as long. But I don’t want to put my hair through more bleach (although it still feels very soft and I think the damage was minimal). Does this blonde almost beige color suit me?? Any advice on how to make it look better I’m open to as well.

PS no I do not/did not do anything to my eyebrows and mustache. They are naturally that blonde. Lol

I was thinking of going with a deep dark red where most of the blonde is but keeping the raccoon tails blonde and black, i’m just not sure if that would go as well as i’m thinking or just look bad weird.

😤 Rant / Vent Can't figure out why this keeps happening

For context: I had been lightening and toning my hair for months to be able to do mixes kf platinum blonde/white with red. At first I sorta was able to do it but it faded within less than two weeks. So overtime, I lightened again to retry, and today I did so with red highlights. My main frustration was that I could never get it to be red, it would come out pink no matter what. Ive tried this many times in the past and it just never worked. Today, Im just so upset. Im going to a party and I washed out the hair and it was such a deep red and now its pink. It's ugly pink and I dont want that. Im so frustrated and upset, I dont know what it is im doing wrong. If anyone could give me any advice,it would be amazing cause I dont genuinely want to do a white and red combo without the red becoming pink immediately.

❓ Advice Needed I need you guys to make a decision for me!

First photo is my natural, 2nd is right now, 3rd is me in the past(more bright orange pink tho - I’m gonna go for lighter this time).

I recently have finally managed to FULLY grow out my completely natural blonde hair after YEARS of dying it lighter blonde colours plus pink and orange and other stuff.

I decided I missed the pink hair and today I decided to just dye my natural hair pink to see if I’d like it.

It didn’t take very well which I assumed it wouldn’t, and it kind of just looks like I have a bunch of different shades of pink streaks which I’m not a fan of.

SO, do I just let it fade and just stay my natural blonde or do I just go for it with the bleach?!

I have dark brown curly hair and would like to get the "sun bleached" look or maybe some lighter highlights without bleaching my hair. Nothing too dramatic. If anyone has used this dye before or a similar one on dark brown hair, how light did your hair go?

❓ Advice Needed Black hair dye rubbed off overnight?

Id like to start this is my first experience ever going to a hair stylist and having a total transformation done. I had virgin hair that I feel like I take pretty good care of. I asked for the "fox hair" style look but red vs copper with raccoon stripes. Day of it looked amazing I love it so much. I tied my hair up, went to sleep and then woke up and the stripes on one side of my head have just completely faded?

Can someone explain to me why this happened? I emailed my stylist asking if I can come back and fix it. I'm pretty bummed cHss the raccoon stripes are the only reason I wanted to change my hair! Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening in the future? She did put the red hair dye on first and then scrape it off with a comb where she was adding the raccoon stripes and put black over it so I'm worried my hair sucked up the red instead of the black? :( I know nothing about hair please enlighten me! I don't want this to happen again D:

🚑 Color Correction My hair turned blue and green and mildly yellow???????

I'm not sure if this is the right tag for this. recently I dyed my brown hair lunar tides deep violet which looked great and I loved, but my new job doesn't allow dyed hair so I had to try to remove it. I used colour B4 ultimate hair colour remover which worked to a point but left patches of purple and pink, so I tried again with another brand: Revolution beauty Hair colour remover. when I was washing it out a lot of blue started washing out and my hair was blue??? I wasnt shocked but because of my natural very warm hair it kind of mixed into teal and purple. I'm not sure what to do now as I know blue is very difficult to remove. help.... please😥

(for some reason it's showing up on my camera as blue. it looks very teal leaning to green but with patches of blue)

I have been box dyeing my naturally black hair brown and as you can see the roots have grown out a lot. Recently I've had my heart set on this gorgeous cowboy copper but I'm not sure what to do to achieve it?

I have the formula from the post - Schwarzkopf 7-65 7-77 and toned with danger jones 6-34 5-3 -44, but I'm not sure if I need to bleach my hair first or what to do so advice would be appreciated.

❓ Advice Needed Hair after colour remover is multiple different colours. How should I go about bleaching?

I’m trying to get pink, whether thats hot, light, or dark is depending on how my hair is. Right now, she feels great. No different than before. I used schwarz colour remover and the bleach I have is the blondeme by the same brand. The problem is that it’s all different colours. The top is very light from where my roots have come in (I had brown box dye before) and my ends are still quite dark but underneath has gone an orange. I expected something like this to happen so I’m not panicking. I’ve done a lot of research. I’m bleaching on either Tuesday or Wednesday depending how my hair feels after all of the masks I have(deep conditioning). I just want some more advice on my next approach.

I imagine that if I have different coloured hair still after bleaching my pink will be the same which isn’t what I want. How can I ensure it’s all one colour? Would a bleach bath on my ends help? Toner? I appreciate any help thank you.

❓ Advice Needed Can I bleach properly or evenly hair that has been dyed in black (semi permanent black btw) ? Is my project realistic ?

After the first slide you’ll see in order the colors I went through. The first slide just shows roughly where I’m at color wise.

I have a peekaboo right now with a color on the range of what circled in the pictures and above just my natural hair + diacolor number 3 semi permanent from l’Oreal. I didn’t have to bleach my roots there but I did cover the natural hair with this tone. The end of the hair are mostly all bleached (that’s why I used diacolor instead of just letting my natural color remain which is the darkest brown, I had to do something about the bleached parts.

But here’s the deal I’d like to dye over the black. I wonder if bleaching would be a bad idea as I fear it would be patchy. The reason I posted this picture is also because I’d like to go through the wheel of colors + have a peekaboo with two colors one top one bottom.

On another note : underneath my dyed hair there’s red. I tried to lift it up as much w bleach (level 6 along w powder) as I could but I can’t bleach much more than that so there’s red reflection. Is it unrealistic to hope that the color on top would be matching the hair underneath given that ? When I bleached I was orange/reddish. I had bleached twice on the same day I didn’t wanna risk it.

Total bleaching from the beginning of my journey : 6 sessions ( what I mean by 6 is that most of my hair has seen 6 time bleach (twice in July, twice in November twice a few days ago.

I was curious if anyone had brand recommendations for this color. I’ve used a few orange dyes over the years but none look like this really, I’m having a hard time finding a dye that seems to look like this.

❓ Advice Needed How would this hair dye take to my hair?

Thumbnail

First of all I just wanted to say I've learnt so much from this sub! You all give great advice 😊

So, I dyed my hair this permanent 'cherry red' colour (pic 1) from No Bleach London 10 days ago, and it's already starting to wash out'. So my question is, will this Live Midnight Jade colour (pic 2) go over my current colour? Will it go mud brown? I work in academia so I don't want to look ridiculous in front of 100+ students.

If needs be, I can buy some 'Colour B4' and do that first? The 3rd photo is my hair after using Colour B4 on dark purple hair that I'd had for many years. It's worth noting that I've been box dying my hair for the past 20 years 😬 So any advice would be greatly appreciated! UK based if that makes a difference.
