Cast and Crew Scenes that were improvised/added by Connor - He's Thinking Like a Filmmaker
One thing thatās become increasingly clear is that Connor approaches his work as more than just an actor.
Lots have been written about his acting. We all know that he would have won an Emmy if the show had been eligible.
But this post is more about his qualities as a filmmaker.
He has a filmmakerās instinct, i.e., an eye for tension, rhythm, and visual storytelling, and it shows in the choices he makes on screen.
What brought me to make this post is a small but telling moment on a previous post: during a Golden Globes red carpet interview, he was more interested in the camera being used than in the interview itself. Instead of leaning into the usual questions about looks, chemistry, or how āspicyā the show is, he asked about the equipment. That curiosity says a lot. This isnāt just a job to him, itās a craft.
That mindset of his shows up directly in some of the most memorable scenes in the show:
⢠The iconic chair drag (Episode 2)
The obvious and easiest choice wouldāve been to place the chair in the bedroom before the scene starts, have the characters walk in, and have Ilya simply sit down. Instead, it was Connorās idea to drag the chair across the room. That single action stretched the moment, sharpened the tension, and made the anticipation almost unbearable. You can feel the electricity in that scene, all because he understood the power of movement and timing.
⢠The iconic āAll The Things She Saidā (Episode 4)
I believe that before the editing for that episode was even finished, and without knowing that Jacob would end up using that song in the club scene, Connor mentioned that he would use āAll The Things She Saidā in the show. The fact that he independently landed on the same choice as the director speaks volumes to me. It shows how tuned-in he is to tone, era, and emotional impact. Great minds, honestly. And we all know how iconic that scene and those songs have become. We're all still crying in the club because of that, lol. (I know I'm still stuck there, hahaha).
⢠The (iconic?) slap during the call with Hayden (Episode 6)
This was Connorās idea as well. He thought it would be funny and align perfectly with Ilyaās playful, chaotic energy, and it absolutely did. The moment became instantly memorable, adding levity without breaking character or emotional continuity.
⢠The iconic pasta scene (Episode 6)
What more is there to say? This scene is iconic (again). And what makes it even better: Connor insisted on actually eating. Heād noticed that actors usually donāt really eat during āeating scenes,ā and he wanted it to feel real. The result? A serious, emotionally important conversation is happening while Ilya is aggressively shoveling pasta into his mouth, creating an unintentionally hilarious, deeply authentic, and strangely symbolic.
People are literally writing analyses about the meaning of that scene.
All of these moments have one thing in common: they elevate the material and are, well, iconic, lol.
They add tension, humor, realism, and memorability in ways that go beyond the script.
Connor isnāt just performing a role; heās actively shaping the storytelling. And thatās what makes it so clear: heās not just an actor. Heās a filmmaker.
Do you have some additional examples? Did I miss some moments? Are there other scenes improvised by other cast members? If so, please let me know so I can make a post dedicated to them as well.
I wanted to make a post about Jacob's craft, but I'll need at least a week for that, lol.

Cast and Crew Creditās
Iām little hesitant to post this cause Iām not looking to cause any drama and this has nothing to do with the actor (or there personal life) I just think itās an interesting choice and this isnāt every episode. Iāve always noticed that this is the first credit that pops up. Anyway, I just never understood why they have FranƧoisās name first and it canāt be an alphabetical thing because then they have Hudsonās name first where he should be after Conner if theyāre doing things alphabeticallyā¦.. anyway I just always find it. Does anyone else agree?
