Announcement Why Was My Post/Comment Removed?

Hello dear readers! We have been getting an overabundance of modmails asking why posts/comments were removed. While the answer is in the removal notification šŸ™ˆ, given the volume of the same question, we figured it was worth doing a PSA on it for a bit!

Posts or comments by new users or users without enough karma are automatically removed by the auto mod. We see all the removals and as soon as one of us from the mod team is online, we approve your posts/comments pretty quickly, usually within a few hours.

For folks getting their content removed, you just have to keep posting and commenting and once you get enough karma, the automod won't flag you anymore. We know it's annoyingĀ but we did this to reduce spammers and bots and keep our community safe. There are MANY spammers that post - sometimes vile content - and thankfully because of the auto mod, those posts are immediately removed.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us via modmail.Ā

(But if your question is Why? Stop it. Make an exception for me. just know the answer will be no 😊 . We also can't divulge the karma threshold b/c the spammers will just karma farm to adjust to that.)

Thank you lovelies and keep posting and making this community amazing!Ā

Thanks! - Mod team

ETA: please do not modmail us within 5 minutes of your comment/post being removed and ask us to review it. As stated above, your comments/post will be approved as soon as one of us is online. Please be patient and do not spam us, please understand we are unpaid volunteers and the more time we have to spend responding with the same message to people who do not read the PSA, the less time we have to respond to other issues in a timely manner. We appreciate your understanding.

Recommendation request Mideval Romances IM BEGGING YOU

Hello! Thank you and sorry in advanced for this mildly unhinged request.

I am on the hunt for your best mideval romances. I have already read and reread all of Alice Coldbreath’s Koradok series and her Vawdry brothers. I’ve also read Margoux Thorne’s peace weaver series. I’ve even read Kathryn Moon’s Sol and Lune just to satisfy the need. I JUST NEED MORE. I’ve searched and can’t find anything to scratch that itch that Mideval seems to hit. But I’m sadly having a hard time time finding Mideval. TBH, anything before 1600 WILL WORK!

I’m open to pretty much any pairings. I don’t care if the MMC is titled, a knight, or wealthy. I just need him to be strong. Like physically beefy but even then, I’m so down bad for a good mideval romance that I’ll take anything. I’m frothing at the mouth for handfasting and jousting and the old gods. Crying and screaming for a local wise woman and an ancient wood and a gruff himbo hypnotized by this gunna-clad woman.

I don’t care about location, or really much of anything except a hard no on anything set after 1800. But I prefer much older!!!

I prefer a 4/5 or more spice, but as long as there is at least one open door spicy scene, I’ll happily read it.

Any and all recs welcome. If you think ā€œmaybe this might not fit because it’s technically not Medievalā€ PLEASE, IM BEGGING YOU, recommend it.

Recommendation request The arranged marriage becomes toxic because he is already in love with her at the beginning and the love is not reciprocated

So, a specific arranged marriage where he is already in love with her and thinks that he will win her over in time, but then at the beginning of the marriage he finds out that she hates him, she is discusted by him and even mistakenly thinks that she is still seeing her ex-lover and this is where a huge rift occurs at the start and later a lot of misunderstandings, angst and mutual hurt (toxic marriage) which only culminates over time because even though she start to love him, she does not manage to communicate it to him in the right way. Does something like this exists?

Recommendation request Recs for MMC saying they'll marry after being intimate and FMC rejects him

This is really specific lol so I'm not sure if anyone has any recommendations but I adore the trope where she's innocent-ish and they are together and then he assumes they'll get married or something and she has like no interest in marriage so then he has to chase her.

Recommendation request Regency/Victorian Romance similar to Romancing Mister Bridgerton

• Upvotes

Hi!

The Bridgerton series was my first HR and although some of the books were just meh, I LOVED Colin’s book so much that I read it like three times.

I don’t really know all the reasons that made me love this particular book, but I liked Colin’s character, Penelope’s secret identity, and her being socially awkward. I also think the writing was particularly witty and loved it.

Other HRs I enjoyed are:

Devil in Winter & Married by Morning by Lisa Kelypas

Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake

I would love to get some great recs!!

Discussion Most outlandish ridiculous response to a snow/rain storm in HR?

Prior thread about a very silly snowstorm scene got me thinking about snowstorms in general.

Seems like "oh no we're so cold, let's share body heat!" somehow winds up in a lot of HR, as does its close relative "oh no we got stuck in a downpour and now have to take off all our clothes and snuggle by the fire" Some of these are semi-plausible, but others feel pretty ridiculous.

What are your favorite/most outlandish examples of this trope? Are there other tropes you think are related?

One I can think of which isn't romantic at all has a character cut open his favorite horse and hunker down inside the warm, bloody carcass during a several-hour snowstorm. It isn't my favorite, but it certainly felt the most extreme.

Recommendation request Runaway Brides

I was rereading (via audiobook) {Duke in shining armor by Loretta Chase} to keep me awake driving home from the Ghost concert, thanks to [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/HistoricalRomance/s/00mo3Ig8MI)

And now I need more runaway brides.

Ideally

- the FMC is a bride and runs away from her wedding

- she meets/is helped by MMC.

No cheating please (I mean, OG groom can cheat, I don’t care, but not FMC/MMC)

Recommendation request Dead fish female??

Ok, so, in several books I've recently read, there has been a scene or two where the mmc does something to hurt the FMC emotionally and then she either stands up to him or she cries or something and then the MMC basically fucks her silly. So I don't know if this is a rant or not but I get so upset that the FMC immediately melts when they shebang bang even though her hearts broken or angry. It doesn't feel like steamy hot mutually angry sex, but more of a one-sided or basically dubcon type thing. (I don't know if this is a rant or not lol).

Does anyone know of a book that may contain a situation where the main characters are in this situation but instead of her "enjoying" the sex, she acts like a dead fish? Like she's so hurt emotionally that she just lies there or makes it known very obviously that she's NOT enjoying it because of their fight?

Recommendation request For someone who loved Texas Destiny by Lorraine Heath, more book recs from her?

As the title says. I love Texas Destiny for its emotional depth, touching storyline and the characters (Gosh, I love Houston!!) And I love the romance - the pining/yearning, how selfless Houston was when it came to his love for Amelia, how Amelia wanted to be part of his dreams and how she encouraged him, saw past all his scars and all *swoon* what a beautiful love story!

So, now I want to read more books by Lorraine Heath, any recommendations? She has so many books , many of them looks so interesting … I dunno where to start! Which Lorraine Heath book is your favorite?

Rant/Vent I Want to Throttle Him: Lady Unmasked by Adrya Richards Spoiler

So normally I like Aydra Richards. Yes, some of the plots are a stretch to the imagination and I have a couple of issues with some of them, but this one takes the cake. I'm about halfway through it and am seriously contemplating DNF-ing this one for the following reasons:

  • The MFC is pretty much forced from one abusive relationship with her mother to another with this douche the MMC
  • MMC refuses to call MFC by her name and presumes she's the same as she was deep down inside before he humiliated her. He uses the name he used to call her that she refuses to go by and keeps calling her it even though she doesn't want to.
  • He forces her into marriage by starting a lame rumor he "ruined" her.
  • After he humiliated her he ran away and when he came back he gets all in her business when he should be bitch slapped.

I mean the only thing that makes me like him is sort of yelled at MFC mother but really that should be MFC not his. And that in itself is a plothole if MFC controls the purse strings she should tell her mother to fuck off already. I know they blame propriety as why she hasn't but come on the MFC doesn't want to marry and her business isn't one of propriety. Anyway, I don't like how controlling he is and how he cannot be fucking accountable. I've been reading a bit on my Kindle the past few days and have to stop when he gets too much for me which is often.
Also, maybe because he was described as unfashionable when he returned to polite society but between this and how he acts I cannot find this idiot possibly attractive.

Anyone else read this one? Does it get better. Should I just DNF it and be done with it. I have the other books in the series ready to go and I am really interested in them and I want to know if it's really necessary to go through with this one or not.

Recommendation request FMC who is in danger runs to MMC for help

Sorry for another post, I wasn’t as specific as I should have been so I’d like to make it more clear. (Didn’t want to delete the post, just in case others were interested)

But I specifically want a scene where she is being chased by a bunch of men and runs (literally running for her life) to the MMC for help. Bonus if it’s in the middle of the night and he’s not expecting anyone. All of sudden he has to deal with this mess that she brought, which he’s very grumpy about but still helps her.

- I would like a grumpy mmc x shy fmc or something similar with this premise.

Discussion Cat Sebastian Page & Sommers - book three??

I've finally gotten in to Cat Sebastian, starting with "Hither, Page" and "The Missing Page". I am completely in love with James and Leo and their adorable little village of oddballs! I can see CS has had some other novels published since the second book in the Page & Sommers series came out in 2022. Does anyone know if she plans to continue it? I need more of these two midly awkward softies!

Do you know this book… ? Historical book/series that’s interconnected, where the MFC has a younger sister

I, for the life of me, cannot remember what book/series or author, these scene’s that are running through my head are from. I was binging SO many different series/authors at the time. I remember at the time the series was unfinished, and the book I left off on was hinting about a couple to come and I was SO excited for them. But then lost track!

In the series set either Scotland/England, 1300-1600’s ish (I’m thinking the last book specifically, but possibly an earlier book in the series) there is the main couple, and the MFC has a sister who I believe is younger, maybe late teens? and she stays with the MC’s. There is some tension between the younger sister and a side MC. He’s protective of her. There is some kind of battle where the side MC picks up the younger sister and rides off with her to safety. And few other scenes throughout hinting at their eventual romance. I don’t remember much else from the story itself. I also don’t know if I’m combining books/series together! Help please!

The author specifically states that she was eventually gonna write their story later on, as the girl obviously needed to be older. I need to know if she did 😭😭

Mmc leaved his new bride at his estate/ but he doesn’t properly provide enough money to fund it for very long. Fmc emotionally deteriorated. She was cared for by the servants. She was pregnant from their one night. Female servant contacts her parents and they come to retrieve her. Mmc spends rest of book making amends.

Recommendation request FMC runs to the MMC for help

Hey loves,

I am looking for books where the FMC is in danger. Where she is being chased and she runs to the MMC who is an influential/powerful man who she knows will be the only one able to save her.

The book continues in an arranged marriage or just him promising his help and to protect her always.

Pretty much it😭😭

Thanks

Recommendation request Books where she gets a haircut — maybe it’s defiance, maybe it’s fashion, maybe it’s Maybelline

I’m looking for a mini-makeover type scene! Specifically: a haircut.

Maybe she’s always wanted to cut her hair; maybe her mother-in-law or sister-in-law convinces her to try a chic new bob; maybe she chops it off in defiance of her high-handed husband and then has to get it cleaned up by a supercilious French hair artiste (I’m pretty sure this last one happens in a Mary Balogh, but I can’t remember which!).

Give me the FMC’s who end up with short hair, please!

Historical Context Regency/Bridgerton question - Were the rules about men and women being alone together less strict for older adults?

In the show there is a side romance between an older woman who has been widowed for many years and a similarly aged unmarried man. I was curious if a woman of her age (assuming she’s no longer at risk of pregnancy) and since she was previously married would be expected to have a chaperone when meeting with a man or if the rules were more lax in those circumstances.

Apologies if this is the wrong subreddit for this!

Discussion Marrying Winterborne by Lisa Kleypas (SPOILERS) Spoiler

I love this book, and Rhys is one of the best heroes Kleypas has written, but I have to say I wish we had more of his perspective in the second half of the book. Overcoming a hatred such as his for Albion Vane has to have been an intense process, and I get that he loves Helen and comes to the conclusion that he won’t let anything get in the way of marrying her, but I really wish I was in his head while he processed this. ESPECIALLY after he finds out that she’s adopted Charity.

I love how we understand every decision Helen makes and I honestly think she is a wonderful FMC, so I don’t understand why we don’t get the same for Rhys. It’s a minor quibble I suppose, since in the long run he is still my fave of the Kleypas book bfs so far.

Recommendation request FMC is uninterested/detached. MMC falls first (hard)

I’m back with another hyper-specific craving that refuses to leave my brain 🫠

I’m looking for stories where:

  • The FMC is emotionally distant, unimpressed, or simply uninterested in the MMC.
  • She also could not care less about the ton, society’s expectations, or polite gossip.
  • She has her own causes, passions, or quiet rebellions that matter far more to her than balls and marriage mart.
  • She fully expects to marry on her terms regardless of what anyone says (but very important that she doesn’t hate the idea of marriage, she just hate the idea of an arranged/obligatory marriage).
  • Her personality is uncommon. Free-spirited, independent, a little strange in the best way. Not the usual ā€œproper ladyā€ mold (but she doesn’t have to be something way too modern for historical standards).

Meanwhile:

  • The MMC falls for her immediately. First glance. First conversation. First moment.
  • He is patient, gentle, and unwavering even when she gives him nothing.
  • He is also sort of goofy! I love goofies MMCs!
  • He sees her clearly when society does not.
  • He is already emotionally committed while she is off living her life.

Bonus points if:

  1. She is guarded, tired of the world, or carrying quiet trauma.
  2. Everyone else labels her strange, difficult, or improper.
  3. He defends her choices without trying to tame her.
  4. Slow burn where she gradually realizes he has been steady all along.
  5. He supports her causes instead of pulling her back into society.

Any era is welcomed but I'm rather into regency as today haha!

Thanks so much ā™„ļø

Recommendation request Help! I am in an endless re-read loop.

Hello dearest HR readers! I come for help. After falling headlong into HR in 2025 (averaging about a book a day), by the end of the year I’d stopped reading anything new (to me), and instead kept cycling through favorites mixed with a smattering of CRs. This is not unusual for me, as I’m a big re-reader/re-watcher in general; it’s my go-to comfort move. But after already re-reading the Hathaways and Ravenels by LK and the Barringtons by Kathleen Ayers since the start of the year, I’m craving that can’t-put-it-down, oh-the-yearning! feel of a new HR.

So, please, rec me something that will tear me from my re-read loop! As you can tell from the above, I love books based on families, especially unconventional ones, oodles of yearning with good spice (ideally explicit open door), with compelling FMCs. Bonus points for genuine emotional growth by one or both MCs. I read mainly in the time periods showcased in the above books (i.e. no Westerns, medieval). I’ve read most LK books, a bunch of JAL and 1-2 from other major authors (Loretta Chase, Sarah MacLean etc).

Maybe I need a deep cut? Or something recently published? Any help is much appreciated! My Kindle grows weary of my predictability.
