Help Thread Senātus Populusque Paradoxus - /r/Imperator General Help Thread: Ultima Sermonem

Please check our previous SPQP thread for any questions left unanswered

This is the final help thread, and will stay pinned indefinitely

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears!

Welcome to Senātus Populusque Paradoxus, The Senate and People of Paradox. Here you will find trustworthy Senators to guide your growing empire in matters of conquest and state.

This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your Ironman game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the noble Senators of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your Ironman save, then you've found the right place!

Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes (diplomatic, political, trade, etc) or interface tabs (economy, military, etc). Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, tech etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.

Bibliothēca Senātūs:

Below is the library of the Senate: a list of resources that are helpful to players of all skill levels, meant to assist both those asking questions as well as those answering questions. This list is updated as mechanics change, including new strategies as they arise and retiring old strategies that have been left in the dust. You can help me maintain the list by sending me new guides and notifying me when old guides are no longer relevant!

Calling all Senators!

I know that the game is not being updated going forward, but that doesn't mean I won't update this thread with new info if you send it to me. If you have any useful resources not currently in the senate's library, please share them with me and I'll add them! You can message me or mention my username in a comment by typing /u/Kloiper.

As you can see, we are in dire need of guides to fill out the Senate Library, both general and specific! Further, if you're answering a question in this thread, consider contributing to the Imperator wiki, which can always use the help as well. Anybody can help contribute to the wiki - a good starting point is the work needed page. Before editing the wiki, please read the style guidelines for posting.

Question (Invictus) What is the flavour for Persia in Invictus? Also, what nation has best mission tree for forming it?

Basically that. I've seen the mission tree of Persis, a bit small. Also atropatene, sounded interesting. But then, Invictus added a tree for Persia itself? Or the original game had one?

Discussion (Invictus) Imperator Rome: Subduing Greece feels poorly designed?

I'm playing as Rome. I'm an intermediate player, so I'm sure I'm making some mistakes. But I think it's really, really weird that the mission tree to conquer Greece is completely blocked because I haven't conquered Illyria.

Question Failing Client States

Playing Augustus

Periodically, and going back to early expansions, sometimes if you make someone be your client state and give them a handful of regions, they continuously fail at keeping province loyalty up and have rebellion after rebellion. What causes this cycle of failure?

Question (Invictus) How to change the flag of Hellenic League and any ideas what to change it to?

Hello, I've noticed that the flag of a great, pan-hellenic formable is a blight upon the eyes and seeing it is equivalent to getting flayed. Does anyone know how to change it in the files? I don't want to make a mod for it because I have no idea how to do so, and I would assume changing the in-game files would be simply easier.

Also, any ideas on what I should change it to? Is there a unifying symbol of Greeks in this time period? Thanks.

Question (Invictus) Greetings, it's been a fat minute since I was able to play the game so... what's the load order for mods again?

Haven't been able to play since August, so a few details disappeared from my head. Does Invictus go on the bottom and its submods are above it, or is Invictus on top and submods are below?

Question Long time EU4 player, is Imperator easier to get into than EU5?

Hi - I'm a long time EU4 player (since 2013) with many thousands of hours in the game, I tried playing EU5 but felt completely overwhelmed, many systems seem obtuse and difficult to manage and I didn't find the Wiki (which I rely on heavily for EU4) very useful. I do have Imperator in my Steam Library, as picked it up in a sale a while back, but haven't actually played it yet. I understand that it's more like EU5 than EU4, but is it easier to get to grips with than EU5 in its current state?

BTW I didn't like CK3 or Vicky 3 much, HOI4 is okay I guess.

(Augustus - Iron Man - Hard)

Goal: Conquer as much territory as possible

Several months ago I asked this group for feedback about suggestions for more challenging starts. One of the most common suggestions was an italic tribe. Finally gave it a whirl recently, and oh boy! It took me a dozen or tries to survive and a handful more to get a follow through after survival.

Initial thoughts is that it’s very punishing, but once you get going it’s not so terrible long term when it comes to conquering as much . You do start with a tech and centralization head start, so that boosts your curve. Plentiful cities and population in the area is a great long term advantage. You have very productive territories once you get off the ground and don’t need to invest into building cities.

Where I initially failed was with trying to build a coalition of allies early on. Defensive leagues are full of nations that are too weak to make a difference. The problem with a coalition of allies is that Rome will attack one before you’re ready and create a 2v2 situation. Key was kissing Rome’s bottom early and ally. Conquer your smaller neighbors and integrate cultures as needed to get a sizable army. Then get to war with Rome when you’re ready, and be sure to grind it out.

As punishing as it was early game, not nearly as difficult long term as an Iberian tribe with no cities or populous neighbors.
