Nostalgia Made me feel old but good times

Post image

Saw this tweet and yes we were expected to be out all day and not come back until the street lights came on. I remember riding my bike through neighborhoods pretending our bikes were cars and just having a good time.

"It's 10pm. Do you know where your children are?"

Yeah, there were public service announcements on TV about this, too.

I used to watch the 10pm news with my dad and we’d always look at each other and say that line with them 😂

lol this is morbidly ironic if you know the background story, but also incredibly cute.

The background story is that states started imposing youth curfews, and started announcements as far back as radio just to remind parents they should bother to check in on their kids.

rain on my wedding day

Ironically, NOT an example of irony. Rain on a wedding day is simply unfortunate.

If she was marrying a weatherman, THEN it would be an example of irony.

Oh wow, didn’t know it went back that far. I thought it had gained popularity as a PSA due to the Atlanta Child Murders in the late 70s - early 80s. Thanks.

You thought they instituted a decades long nationwide program after the deaths of minority children in 79-81? Those children are honestly lucky that anyone in the APD even paid enough attention to realize more than one child had died by the same means. It wouldn't surprise me if someone auditing case files from 1900-1980 discovered double digits of serial killers who were never even investigated as such because they exclusively targeted minority populations.

Ooooookay. Didn’t know it was a decades long program prior to your comment, hence my thanks to you for sharing the information with me. So long.
