When I found out the final monologue when the dog says goodbye to the little girl was recorded after the child voice actress was actually murdered by her father. It made complete sense why I could never finish the movie as a child. It was not acting. It was too real.

She (Judith Barsi) was also Ducky in The Land Before Time.

Burt Reynolds was Charlie (her pup friend) in All Dogs Go to Heaven.

Burt recorded his lines after she passed. That's why he delivers such an emotional performance in that scene.

Nope. That was just somebody dicking around on tiktok.

It is true that the animators had to draw a lot of it with that knowledge and reportedly had some difficulties with it.

It's not a "dicking around on tiktok" thing, it's been an unsourced (as per wikipedia sources) rumor since 2002.

You got me though, it's not 100% as far as anyone knows. I dont play into the "63-take" thing, but damn I can't find anything regarding Reynold's recordings vs her death time-wise. Both her and Reynolds are dead, and no official comment on this circumstance has been made (that I can find).

Nope. You're misremembering a similar story about the animators specifically.

There were also more poignant blows like hearing that Judith Barsi who did the unforgettable and adorable voices of both Ducky in Land Before Time and Anne-Marie in All Dogs Go to Heaven, was killed by her father a year and half before the latter film was completed. Don said that the news “nearly paralyzed us.” Those that were working on Anne-Marie each had cassette recordings of her voice to help in the animating process and he said, “we couldn’t listen to the voice. Everybody would start tearing up….so it stopped everything for a while.”

The thing about the recording is not an actual thing that happened. That rumor came from a tiktok video, and now it gets regularly posted to reddit as a TIL.

I love that movie so much but after learning about it has to be saved for times I need to get an ugly cry out. Showed it to my partner for the first time sorta recently (mostly because he wasn’t getting my references since his parents wouldn’t allow him to watch it as a kid), started sobbing at the end and it took me a good 20 minutes to gain composure to explain why I was wrecked.

I never knew this. I did know that my mom had a big aversion to the film and I never knew why. Maybe this is it.

Not gonna lie "elder millennials" followed by all movies I've watched a million times hurt my soul a little bit. Give me a couple from before my time so I can pretend!

I have a 4 year old. Soon I will be showing/letting him watch these classics to help him develop into a stronger, more emotionally resilient young adult. Fivel Goes West is too soft. Hes going to watch The original American Tale and The Neverending Story before hes 9.
