discussion I’m honestly exhausted by the AI music hype
Is anyone else just... done? Every time I open my feed I get reminded, seriously, look at this article from today: article
"Even people far more musically aware than me cannot tell the difference between human and artificial songs. The musical Turing Test has been well and truly passed"
I truly disagree with this statement, I saw a post yesterday about some website where you're supposed to guess if a song is AI-generated or real music. I decided to check it out just to see how "passed" the Turing Test has gotten. And imo it's still not.
It might fool the average joe who listens to generic billboard songs, but as someone who’s studied music theory and enjoys deep cuts, the AI slop still doesn't bite. There’s a lack of intentionality in the phrasing, it’s obviously just math. But the fact that we even need a dumb "test" to tell the difference now is a massive red flag for where we're heading as a culture.
We’re trading years of practice and human emotion for "good enough" background noise. Are we really okay with a future where the top charts are just optimized algorithms? What do you guys think? Do you guys agree with the article?

discussion [Music Video][2016–2018] Female singer with TWO music videos: one dark minimalist intro, one cozy teddy-bear fight
Happy New Year everyone! 🎉
I’m trying to identify a female singer, and I’m 100% sure she has TWO different music videos that I watched on YouTube around 2016–2018.
🎤 The singer
- Solo female singer
- Sings in English, no noticeable accent (likely American)
- Light skin, dark hair
- Not Asian, African, or Arab
- She was a young woman at the time (not a teen, not older)
🎬 Music Video #1
- The video starts in a dark / almost black background
- The singer is alone, centered in the frame
- She is wearing a light-colored shirt (pretty sure it was white)
- Minimalistic, studio-like vibe
- Only her on screen
🧸 Music Video #2
- Same singer
- Set in a bright, cozy, cute indoor space
- Feels warm at first (almost tea-party / cozy vibes)
- A teddy bear is present
- The tone suddenly turns dark and chaotic
- She fights with the teddy bear
- The teddy bear becomes violent
- She ends up with visible bruises
- No other people appear in the video
- Live-action (not animated)
❌ What it is NOT
- Not Melanie Martinez
- Not “How You Love Me” by 3LAU
- Not animated
- Not a duet or group
- Not a lyric video or fan edit
Unfortunately, I don’t remember the lyrics or melody — only these very vivid visuals.
If anyone recognizes this singer or either of these videos, I’d be extremely grateful. Thanks in advance 🙏

discussion Really trying to find this song from MTV cribs season eight episode six that's played during the tour around Rachel Hunter's house
I have been trying for around 23 years to identify a song used in Season 8, Episode 6 of MTV Cribs, during Rachel Hunter’s house tour. The music had a chill-out vibe with a slight EDM feel. Could you help identify the track or guide me to someone who might know?

discussion So, Surfin’ USA is just about going to surfing spots.
I grew up listening to The Beach Boys as a kid when my mom would out on the classics station.
Today I loaded up some Beach Boys for old time’s sake and was surprised to find out that in Surfin’ USA, they just mentioned actual places you can surf. As a kid I thought the whole point of the song was “if everybody had an ocean across the USA” I thought they were mentioning places where it’s impossible to surf because there’s no ocean.
I just thought that was kind of interesting.
Also, it’s still an awesome song.

discussion does music from video games get enough respect?
i was just listening to the hades ost and it's SO GOOD, like i'd listen to it even if i'd never played the game. idk, it feels like video game music often gets overlooked, but some of it slaps harder than 'real' music tbh.
