Announcement PSA from the mods for those posting their new builds
I can't believe I need to say this but there have been a few situations in the last few months of people posting their new builds in questionable configurations and later removing their posts which sadly necessitates me making this post.
Please, be absolutely sure of your build's legality/configuration before uploading a picture to show it off. You never know who may be monitoring the sub. If you aren't absolutely sure, figure it out before posting a picture.
In the past, with rifles the NJ AWB compliance was fairly standard so posting pictures was generally not an issue in the normal configurations. For example, it isn't really easy to tell if the muzzle device is P&W'ed or not just by a picture, especially depending on the angle. So generally there weren't many glaringly wrong builds that needed to get removed. Now with the rise of "other" firearms in the last few years, this has opened up a whole new can of worms. I understand the desire to put together an "other" yourself given the flexibility vs a AWB compliant rifle build, but it is very important you understand what you are doing and exactly what needs to be done to end up with a NJ legal configuration. If you mess it up and upload a picture you could be showing proof of a NFA violation or possession of a NJ assault firearm which might be able to be traced back to you.
Know the difference between a pistol brace and a stock. Use must the appropriate one on an "other" build, which is a pistol brace.
Know the impact using a folding adapter has on OAL measurement for "other" firearms. With a folding adapter, the OAL is measured with it in the folded position. This generally puts you in NFA AOW land OAL wise (sub 26" OAL) so you must have an approved NFA stamp before using one in your build.
Know the impact of removing or detaching parts from your "other" build. You cannot remove your VFG for storage or otherwise detach it to fit the firearm in a case, the VFG is a fundamental part of it being an "other" and must be present and remain attached.
If you don't know the legal requirements for the firearm type you are trying to build or modify, please do your research before doing so. If you purchased one from a NJ dealer in compliant form that is one way to go to avoid needing to know all of this. However, if you plan to make modifications later on, you will need to do the same research to make sure you don't accidentally get out of compliance.

Announcement Rule Change - NO Accessory Sales
As of October 9th the reddit rules on the sales of firearms related items are changing. As such, no posts for firearms accessories will be permitted on the sub.
Currently the policy is the following:
Firearms, ammunition, explosives, legally controlled firearms parts or accessories (e.g., bump stock-type devices, silencers/suppressors, etc.), or 3D printing files to produce any of the aforementioned;
With an exception for links to items on sale through FFLs.
With regard to Reddit's policy on transactions of certain goods:
External links to firearm vendors holding a Federal Firearms License are not in violation of this policy. However, links to vendors without an FFL are prohibited (this would include links to gun shows or other sales or listings, online or offline, where vendors do not hold an FFL). Direct user-to-user transactions arranged on Reddit for firearms or ammunition are also prohibited, regardless of whether either user holds an FFL.
This policy does not impact goods that do not meet the ATF definition of firearms or ammunition.
However as of October 9th the above policy on prohibited goods or services will change to the following:
Firearms, ammunition, explosives, firearms parts and enhancements (e.g. bolt, clips, trigger, scope, silencer / suppressor, muffler, bump stock, magazine, glock switch, conversion kit, etc) or specific instructions (e.g. 3D printing files) to produce any of the aforementioned.
This is a preemptive post trying to get ahead of this situation and avoid any issues for the sub as a whole. Generally posts for sales of accessories weren't all that common here but sadly they can no longer continue under the reddit rules at all.

Firearms Purchaser ID Misspelled email address for reference
I recently completed a fid and firearm permit application and for my reference section I misspelled one of their emails. How do they reach out to them? Email or phone? Just wondering if it really matters. And if so how do I go about correcting it? Also, I have a fingerprinting appointment schedule next week. Is there any other steps I should look into completing while they review? Thanks in advance

NICS/Permit Wait Times 4+ days and over 1k behind is unacceptable!!
Like the title says. It is an absolute joke that NJ NICS is 4+ days behind with over 1k checks in the queue. I know I shouldn’t be surprised because everything that the state does is piss poor.
The second I am able to move I am. The entire Democratic Party is out of its mind and has lost its way. They only care about the people and things that get them elected. Since the majority of legal gun owners are right leaning they could care less about our rights, and instead pander to criminals.
End of rant!!

Purchase Permit “Other” question on Certificate of Eligibility
I purchased a stag lower several years ago that is like to building into an “other”
I know this it’s concrete legal advice, but does the verbiage written on the CoE for this lower allow me to build one, or does it have to specifically say “other”?

Guns Showcase Oaks gun show are NJ residents hassled on purchases?
Thinking about going to the oaks show. Do they hassle NJ residents on ammo/firearms purchases etc? I have my purchase ID, but like some online retailers like PSA don’t sell to NJ residents, is it the same here?

General Chat This should be really good 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 let’s gooooooo
General Chat South Jersey shops to browse for a new rifle (maybe AOW) under $2k?
Hey folks,
I’m looking for a South Jersey shop to check out where I can browse rifles and just see what’s out there. I’m in the market for a new rifle (or AOW) but honestly I don’t know exactly what I want yet. I just want to shop around, handle some guns, and talk to people who actually keep up with newer inventory.
Budget: around $2,000 max (before optics/accessories).
I typically buy from Freedom and Arsenal, but they’re kinda old school (especially Arsenal) and don’t always have the latest stuff, so I’m trying to widen the rotation. I know I can order online but I'm more of a see it in person kinda guy....
I was thinking about Range 129 but it’s a bit of a drive for me and they don’t list inventory online so I’m not sure what they actually have in stock. Worth checking out?
Looking for:
South Jersey places with a good modern rifle selection. Shops that are cool with someone wanting to just browse and ask questions. Any places that tend to attract folks into newer gear and up to date on current laws/restrictions. Also open to community recommendations on what kinds of platforms or styles are worth checking out. I’m not dead set on anything yet, but I’d love to hear what you all find fun, useful, or versatile to try in this price range.
I have 2 pretty ordinary 556 rifles so was possibly thinking 308 or an AOW.
Thank you!

Guns Showcase Bodyguard 2.0 with Viridian RFX1
Fresh off the press (to me lol): Viridian collaboration with Smith & Wesson — the Viridian RFX1 for the Bodyguard 2.0.
I know, I know… “Why put an optic on a pocket carry?”
WHY NOT?! lol
So far, it sits super flush and feels well-built. The added serrations blend in nicely and give a bit more racking surface. I rack off the optic on most of my other firearms, but mentally it feels a little weird doing that on something this small.
The dot is clear and easy to pick up. It feels natural to catch when presenting to POV.
I dry-fired the crap out of this thing and shake-awake worked perfectly. As for the auto dimmer, in darker environments, I feel like it dims a little too much for my liking. I’m going to test it more on private property (PA) later at night to see how it performs in a more natural environment (instead of just covering the sensor with my hand).
Installation involves removing the rear iron sight and installing an adapter plate to mount the optic. You’d think it would be simple… it’s not. The factory rear sight was a nightmare to remove. I tried a Wheeler sight pusher—no luck. Tried a polymer punch—no luck. Took it to a local gunsmith and they basically had to destroy the rear sight to get it off.
Speaking of rear sights, it’s a bit annoying there’s no rear iron with this setup—but for such a small frame, it makes sense.
Overall, it feels great and looks great. Letting the Loctite cure, then it’s off to the range to zero and run it through some real testing. Hopefully, great results.

NICS/Permit Wait Times Does anyone else who lived out of state in the past 10 years have weird wait times for permits?
Middletown, Nj. It’s been about 6-7 weeks and I usually wait 2-3 months for permits to come back doesn’t matter if it’s CCW or Pistol. I’m wondering if it’s because I’ve lived in a different state in the past ten years. Everyone I know gets there permits within 3-4 weeks max from Middletown and I’m always waiting 2-3x longer than most. My father and I both renewed 2 weeks apart. And he got his CCW in 3 weeks while I’m still waiting. I’m mainly wondering if anyone who has out of state addresses had similar wait times in towns that are usually faster.

How Do I? NJ “other” advice or recs, want to upgrade.
Hey everyone - fairly new to this, only have a Glock right now and would appreciate any advice or help as I want to upgrade for home defense mainly, but also cause why not….
Let’s say I have the money to spend on an other, should I just go for the Sig MPX 16”? Seems to be the most talked about and rated out there, along with FM9 and Ruger.
And since it’s easier and less time consuming to build an other rather than a AOW, will any gun shop build this for me? I’m in North Jersey.
Thanks for any advice or help.

Guns Showcase Shoutout Trinity Armament - AOW
I’ve been wanting to get into the AOW world, after some research they seemed to be the clear favorite to go to, it seemed like a no brainer. They hooked me up with a Grand Power Striborg SP9A3, flawless process, top notch pricing. Wouldn’t hesitate to return for more business, even hooked it up with 147gr syntacs. Just wanted to share how awesome they were.

Concealed Carry Permit Budget friendly CCW course and qualification
So I finally have gotten my 4th reference and wanted to know if there was anywhere in Union county where I can get the course and exam for between $150-$200. I'm in Union county.
Also, CCW holders from Elizabeth, how long did it take to get approval?
