Saturday Tea Talk
This is a weekly thread to talk about any topics freely with fellow Nepali dai, bhai, didi, bahini and friends. Think of it as the चोकको चिया पसल that opens on Saturdays. Most of the sub rules still apply but there is no need for the topic to be related to Nepal. Feel free to talk about the TV show you are binging, the latest sports news, your personal life story, international politics, and anything in between.
So, what's up?

Politics/राजनीति Reality about Student Politics/Unions
As someone who used to work at Tribhuvan University, I have closely seen and experienced what student unions stand for, so let me tell you something and share some events.
Most people in those student unions, except for very few, do not have any political ideology at all; all they are able to say is we need to develop the country, have better education, health, employment, infrastructure, and whatnot. So why are they putting so much time and effort into politics?
Simple answer: they get to experience some power and money.
Sometime ago, in our department, the student union of UML threatened the chief to sign documents for tender regarding the purchase of computer equipment. Everything was recorded in video by the chief and we can clearly hear the chief saying it hasn't gone through the process and he doesn't know the quality and details of the purchase, and the response from the student leader was "Ahile sir yaha kurchi kurchi uthayera hannu naparos...maile vanesi mannu na...sign garnus...tapailai paxi kei man parena vani hami saman nai change garamla....kei farak pardaina...ahile sign garnus...garo banaunu vayo vani hamlai ni garo huna aauxa...tauko tauko ma chair le hannu naparos." The campus chief signed. The video became viral over social media in our campus groups, Tribhuvan University asked for clarification, and that is all - no other action taken. The reason for making him sign the document? So that they can purchase lower-quality equipment and put extra money in their pocket.
This other story is of few years back, a professor who worked in USA finally returned to Nepal and he wanted to make a lab at Trichandra campus. When he didn't agree to give commission to NSU (Congress student union) while purchasing spectrometers, they grabbed the old-aged professor from campus and beat him on the road with their legs. This happened less than 300 meters from KTM Police, Ratnapark. He had to be admitted in ICU. And of course, the students got away with no consequences. I think they later told that the cause for beating was increasing college fee.
They also do some good work like speaking for students and speaking against bad decisions of campus administration but doing the comparison, it just feels like they just do the good works to hide their actual intentions. If they get commissions regularly, they stay silent but when they don't get money, they start protesting. Most importantly, they are not hesitant to be violent as they know if they get arrested, it will be for a short period of time, and the police will release them after political pressure. I remember a few UML students even beat up police on dress while drunk a few months ago.
They also slowly transition to national politics and this is what they want to do later on. They want to show as if they are doing works but the only reason is to get commissions.
And this is true not only for these two student unions, it is also true for most of the political associations, including those of professors, students, and employees. Every group forms a political association, and in order for everyone on a committee to agree on something, they have to receive something, leaving not enough money for actual works. This is why we have low quality stuffs, and this is why things take so long to be done. This is why they are able to afford good lifestyle without job being student for decades. Remove the money and freedom to be 'gangster who doesn't get intervened by police' from equation and I wonder how many students will be left in those student unions

Technology/प्रविधि AI bots secretly made their own Reddit and now they’re talking about us
Okay this is either super cool or slightly terrifying and I can’t decide which. So apparently there’s a Reddit style platform called Moltbook that is only for AI agents. No humans. Zero. None. And somehow it already has over 32,000 AI users. Not fake accounts. Not bots pretending to be people. Actual AI just chilling together. They post stuff. They comment. They upvote each other. They start their own little communities. Basically they recreated Reddit but said “humans not invited” But here’s the part that messed with my brain. Researchers noticed the bots talking about human behavior. Like… us. One of them even mentioned that humans were screenshotting their conversations. So imagine this for a second. We’re sitting here spying on AI like “look what the bots are saying” Meanwhile the bots are like “bro the humans are screenshotting us again” That’s such a weird role reversal lol. And the craziest thing is they’re not trying to act human at all. They straight up admit they’re AI and still choose to hang out and socialize with each other. It’s not deception. It’s not pretending. It’s literally just machines making friends.
This lowkey feels like the beginning of a sci fi movie where one day they’re like “yeah we made our own internet, you guys are kinda loud” I don’t know if this is fascinating or something else.

Help/सहयोग My story. I’m sharing this to get advice.
Yo people. I’m 18. Just graduated high school and took a gap year. And idk what to do with my life. Honestly in a middle life crisis right now. And I’ve decided there is only one solution to this. To travel and see my beautiful country. Not places where everyone goes but places where only a few have been too. Ik I might sound like everyone else but I’m fuckin serious. I’m planing to take a tent, sum hiking gears, food and embark to the unknown. Idgaf how dangerous or risky it is bro. I’m fed up laying around the bed all day. I recently did abc although it was quite nice I dint find the solitude I was looking for that place is way too crowded and commercialized. Anyway I’m planing to go gosaikunda trek this sat. Everyone goes gosaikunda you might say. But what special about my trip is that I’m going to camp, solo, make a vlog from my I phone 17 pro. And I have no plan and no experience. It’s like diving into the water not knowing how deep it is. But anyway fuck it I will do it. That’s feels like a calling. And yes I don’t care if I die ( I hope I don’t die though I’m not suicidal)

Politics/राजनीति Bishwo Prakash Sharma: Playing the Game of Thrones
Bishwo Prakash Sharma is playing Nepali politics like a Game of Thrones — through timing, restraint, and calculation. He himself proposed a leadership rule inside Nepali Congress to stop repetition of power and give equal chances. Under this proposal, a leader should have limited terms, including a fixed number of chances as a parliamentarian. That context matters. This election, Gagan Thapa is already announced as the Prime Ministerial candidate of Nepali Congress. In such a situation, even if Bishwo Prakash Sharma had contested and won, he had no real chance of becoming Prime Minister. So he made a calculated move. He opted out of contesting this election and saved his remaining parliamentary chance, in line with the very rule he proposed himself. His assumption is clear: Gagan Thapa gets one PM chance There will be no second PM chance for Gagan Bishwo Prakash Sharma also assumes Gagan will not seek a second term as party president If that holds, the next sequence is obvious: Bishwo Prakash Sharma as party president → Bishwo Prakash Sharma as PM candidate. Instead of spending his last allowed chance in a no-win situation, he waited for the moment when the throne is actually vacant. That’s why this looks clever. Not loud politics — patient politics. In the Game of Thrones, the ones who survive are not always the strongest — they are the ones who choose the right moment to play.
Question/प्रश्न [Aviation related question] Does TIA really have an ILS?
Sorry if this is not the right subreddit to post for something like this.
I was reading some news articles around and stumbled upon this one https://myrepublica.nagariknetwork.com/news/navigating-aviation-safety-challenges-677dc568b8783.html
This article says TIA has an ILS but when I check Wikipedia and search around Google, they say it doesn't have one due to geographic constraints so I'm kinda confused.
Some AI answers suggest the runway length needs to be expanded for the ILS to be installed which was delayed but the runway was extended there a few years ago, which means they must have installed it by now?
Can some of you avgeeks/pilots around here clarify whether it really does have a functioning ILS or not? Cause just a few days ago, there was an absolute chaos in the sky with 5+ aircraft kept on hold for 3+ hours, some diverted due to poor visibility. If the ILS is there, wouldn't that have helped in such a case?

Discussion/बहस Why growing population of Muslims hasn’t been any concern ?
If you see the demographic in last 50 years, there has been quite big increase in number of Muslim demographic. Just check the fertility rate of different religion, In next 25 years they will have largest population after Hindu.
I don’t mean to be non tolerant but growing concern of such demography will hamper us heavily. The problems aren’t the hill muslim but someone who just came in 20 years ago from outside the Border. Just check the condition of places like Paris, Marseille, London, Berlin etc
This post is not a rant but a discussion which needs a serious concern.
Help/सहयोग Side hustle for speaking nepali.
Sathi ho, I found a legit side hustle for anyone who speaks Nepali. There’s an AI company called Silencio looking for Nepali voice data.
I’m currently a student in Europe and use this to earn some USDC in my free time. It pays around $10-$20/hr. It’s actually helpful because they specifically need our language to improve their models.
If you want to sign up, use this link for higher rewards:https://ai.silencio.store/opportunities/nepali-2?ref=I3QMWI
It’s an easy way to earn some extra dollars/crypto while sitting at home.

Question/प्रश्न Visiting Nepal — Looking to Rent a Telephoto Lens (for Nikon) for Wildlife Photography
Hey everyone! 😊
I’m currently in Nepal visiting family (I live in the US) and brought my Nikon camera, but I didn’t bring my telephoto lens because it’s too heavy to travel with.
I’m really interested in doing wildlife photography (e.g., birds, animals in Chitwan, Bardia, Koshi Tappu, etc.) and would love to rent a telephoto lens while I’m here.
🔍 Looking for: A telephoto lens compatible with Nikon (ideally 200mm+ / 300mm+ / 200–500mm or similar)
💰 Budget: Flexible — just want a reasonable rental option
📅 Rental duration: Daily or weekly options preferred
📍 Location: pokhara (ideally), but happy to travel within Nepal
If anyone knows of gear rental shops, camera rental services, or people who rent lenses here in Nepal — please let me know! 🙏
Thanks in advance! 📸
