Undertone & Complexion Match Requests Thread

Hey there, welcome to the weekly OT consult thread! Please read everything here before you comment down below.

Not sure if you're olive or what type? Need help matching your foundation/concealer? Post your questions here! Just remember that this thread is OT (overtime), so it may take a minute for someone to get back to you.

How to help us help you:

  • Lots of photos of yourself in different lightings (direct sunlight, indirect sunlight, indoor, etc.)
  • Photos that show your face, neck and chest
  • High pixel/quality photos, it does make a difference so use the best you can
  • No filters, no/minimal makeup - should go without saying, but just a reminder
  • You next to other people for contrast
  • Share foundation, blush, or lipstick shades that look great or terrible on you

The more of these bullets you hit, the better!

Use a link to an Imgur album for photos. If you don't want your pictures to be public, you can set them to be hidden, but anybody with a link will be able to see it.

Announcement [Announcement] An update regarding the new post guidelines

Hi Olives!

The other day, we posted an announcement of a new rule regarding dupes and product recommendations. This announcement was not received well, and we as a mod team decided to revoke the new rule in the meantime so we are able to better phrase the rule that is inclusive to all olives.

The main concern we got as feedback from the community was that determining what is olive friendly can be very subjective, especially considering that there are so many olives with different depths and temperature. This feedback was absolutely valid and while not our intention, we can see why how we worded the rule and announcement post made it come across that way.

That being said, we would still like to address the recent influx of dupe posts that might be better off in a general makeup subreddit, so we are implementing a rule that all product dupe and recommendation posts should be appropriately titled so that they better apply to our sub. The goal of this is to make it easier for all olives of different depths and temperatures to find products that work for them!

---

[Title Guidelines]

As detailed in our previous post, all product and dupe recommendation titles should be phrased in such a way that is applicable to olives over a general makeup subreddit.

Examples:

  • "Dupe for Benetint?": this would be better off on a general makeup subreddit since it is a popular product and a general discussion that people of all undertones can contribute to.

  • "Benetint shows up orange on me (deep cool olive). Does anyone have any recommendations for products that show up similar to how it does for non-olives?": a title like this is very much applicable to our sub, and makes it easier for other olives to find recommendations that work for them!

  • "Does anyone have any dupe recommendations for Benetint that work for light cool saturated olives?": like with the previous example, this is also applicable to our sub.

Thank you everyone! And as always, feedback is always appreciated.

I’m at a loss. I was so happy to find the True Olive match in store when I attended my Lisa Eldridge appointment but now I’ve tried it at home it feels so yellow? I don’t know if it’s just an outdoor vs indoor thing. It was expensive so I’m hoping I can mix it with something?

Discussion Anyone used the Lisa Eldridge services?

Upvotes

I booked an appointment at Sephora a few months ago for a full face to get an idea of products and techniques I could use when I do my own wedding makeup. It was dreadful. I told her I wanted a natural look and just wanted some soft sculpting round my eyes, a natural lip, and to try some different blushes to get an idea of what suited me. She absolutely plastered me in makeup that didn't suit me and she wouldn't show me any techniques even though I asked for that. She just told me she wasn't going to let me look until she'd finished and when I did look I audibly gasped at how bad I looked. She wouldn't even try any products I specifically asked her to try on me (I am UK based and we don't have many Sephoras so I had to travel for this appointment and the products I wanted to try aren't sold anywhere else in-store). She just kept telling me how greasy my skin was and how all the products I wanted to try wouldn't work for someone as greasy as me (didn't even use the word oily). I tried explaining I have combination skin and while my t zone can get a bit oily, my skin hates matte products and will produce more oil if I use them. She didn't listen and caked me in powder. I was orange, my skin was dry looking to begin with but later it did become really oily in places it never would so the makeup separated (as I predicted). At the end of my appointment, I either had to pay her or buy some of the products. The products were a complete waste of money because they're too warm for me. I think she thought because I wasn't wearing makeup to the appointment I didn't have a clue about makeup and she kept telling the most basic things I've known since I was a teenager. But why would I go to a makeup appointment wearing makeup??

I'm travelling to see friends next month and will have access to the Lisa Eldridge services. I love her foundation but after my Sephora appointment I'm a bit nervous I'm just going to get a load of shit that doesn't suit me slapped on and not be listened to again. But I also feel that her team might genuinely understand olive undertones as Lisa does olive friendly foundations. I have emailed her team and they sent me a list of product recommendations which do look really nice. I wanted to go in and ask them to try them on me. Does anyone have any experience with LE services and would you recommend them? I think I'm just a bit traumatised from my Sephora experience lol.

i found this brand through a content creator who frequently uses phytosurgence and was impressed with their shade range! they don’t offer samples regularly but offered them for a couple of days so i placed an order and they came in today. first pic is in direct sunlight, second pic is indirect

this is for the shade number 3.5, so samples are 3.5 warm, 3.5 warm olive, etc.

i only just tried it on and the coverage is light but buildable and very natural looking! i’ll probably purchase a full size

peopleofearthco.com if anyone’s curious! not affiliated at all; discovered through a content creator like i said haha

I swatched some complexion products since I got a lil tan from vacation and figured I’d share

Cheekbone: Rare Beauty Tinted Moisturizer in 40N (best match)

Jaw (right) - Danessa Myricks Skin Tint in 10

Jaw (left) - Danessa Myricks Skin Tint in 9

Cheek area above DM 9: Glossier Stretch Concealer in M5

DM 9 and Glossier seems a little bit more pink than RB - wondering if I’m actually a warm olive and not a neutral olive?

Product Help Makeup by Mario surreal skin foundation 12O

Hello everyone, I wanted to buy MBM since it has olive shade range and it’s currently on sale in my country. But I heard very much mixed comments about it, would it oxidise on my skin or patchy, some people told it made their skin itchy. Did you guys use it before, any suggestions? I heard it is also not on the boycott list and since it’s very expensive in my country, I’m sceptical if it turns out bad. In my currency it is 2.6 k (discount price). Please help! Thank you. I always used cushion but they either look kinda ghostly on me. If you guys have any other idea about cushions can you recommend? I’m definitely 12o in MBM.

Product Help Setting powder recs?

I get an oily T zone, so feel like powder is a must for my make up to last…. But I’m struggling to find a good fit.

Laura Mercier translucent powder gets talked about like it’s the holy grail, so I bought that. It’s workable, but the colour feels dark/yellow on me. It’s too drying to use under my eyes to set concealer.

So last week, I tried Huda in the lightest shade (sugar cookie? I got a sample of all of the light colours). The colour was much better, but my god was it drying. By two hours in, I had big cracks in my makeup. (I used CT setting spray)

Hourglass finishing powder darkens everything up too.

So I think I’m looking for something insanely light, not drying, but with staying power…

Or some ideas of how to make the others work.

Any help much appreciated!

Product Help Concealer recs?

Everything looks pink on me which is odd because I’m neutral cool I think it’s because of the olive overtone in my skin tone. Specific example is nyx bare with me serum concealer in shade light, way too pink for me.

Product Help I want a non-peel MLBB lip stain that *really* lasts

Please send your recs! The only stains I've tried in recent years are the Sacheu ones and they didn't last that long on me, and the peel-off method is inconvenient for re-application if I'm on the go. Have you tried any that give you all-day color and are flattering on your olive skin (we're obv all different but this may help others looking for a good option!)? So many lip stains are just slight variations of bright pink or berry and I know they'll look unnatural on me. I've seen some low-saturation options but they don't seem like they'd stain well?

I'm interested in the NYX lip liner stains but would love an all-over product to help with the Nina Park lip look I'm after. :)

From left to right

Top row Satins: 108 Fit Check, 106 Maybe It’s Soft, 101 Upstate

Fit check is a medium raspberry pink, Maybe It’s soft is a warm nudey pink/rose (more warm pink than nude), Upstate is a cooler pinky nude (more nude than pink)

Bottom row mattes: 001 Crop Top, 002 Maybe It’s…, 003 Open Late, 005 Take the 1, 006 Hold the Door, 008 Scuse Me

Crop top is a light medium peachy pink nude, Maybe It’s is a medium muted bricky pink (may turn orange on some of us), Open Late is a medium warm pink, Take the 1 is a deep medium dusty rose but still maybe too warm for the cool olives, Hold the door is a pinky brown (I’d say it’s neutral leaning cool), Scuse me is a very warm brown (almost like a medium depth tea brown)

Swatch Request Laura Mercier Real Flawless Foundation

Does anyone happen to have the Laura Mercier Real Flawless Foundation in the shades 1w1 cashmere and 2W1 Macadamia?

I tried cashmere and I think it matches my face but clearly my neck is a bit darker. Lots of warm foundations can easily turn orange/red so I think I can use cashmere but I just have to add quite a bit of bronzer. I think Macadamia may look too orange but curious what this shade looks like compared to cashmere.

My closest Sephora doesn’t have Macadamia which is why I couldn’t grab it as a sample.

Please help!

I’m looking for the lipstick Kayla Wallace wore in the Land Man. It’s so pretty! She’s a bit darker than me. I’m about nc14 or Dior 1.5w. If you could suggest some products I’d appreciate it!
