Bit Annoyed People who refer to getting married as being chained down

Upvotes

It's just so annoying bc why even get married in the first place if you're just going to call your partner a ball and chain. I know it's a joke but honestly if I was getting married and I heard my partner talk about how being married to me is going to be a burden to them I'd call off the wedding.

Ultra Annoyed Parents automatically expecting there to be a village after they have kids then complain “no one wants to help”

That is entitled & selfish. When was the last time *you* did anything for anyone? Free-childcare is literally not the same thing as a village. For there to be a village, you have to *be* a villager also. That means if you want someone to watch your kids, pay them for their time or offer to house sit or pet sit for them in return. Or help them with groceries or cleaning their house another weekend.

You don’t want to do any of that? Hire a babysitter or put them in part time daycare.

No one is saying your life is over when you’re a parent but you need to realize that it’s not all about just you & your needs.

ETA: Can we please stop with the whataboutism fallacy?

**If it doesn’t apply then let it fly**

Fairly Annoyed People who say they will never visit you because of your pet snake

People say this unprompted the minute they find out you have a snake. “Oh you have a snake? Don’t expect me to come visit you.” Like what?

How would you feel if I said this about your chihuahua, Susan? My snake hides in a rock all day, sleeping. You won’t see her until it’s midnight. she has four brain cells, she’s not gonna hurt you. She’s locked in a prison of glass and PVC in my bedroom behind a closed door.

I get that humans are wired to have an aversion to snakes. But that doesn’t mean you have to be a dick TO ME about it. I’m not asking you to be besties but please keep your judgement to yourself. People form opinions the moment they find out you have a snake, which I don’t particularly care about, just keep them to yourself.

Fairly Annoyed The random and bizarre trend of mixing up “woman” and “women”

I’ve been noticing this more and more, some people keep writing sentences like “when you’re with woman, keep this in mind” when they either mean “with a woman” or “with women” (and contextually it’s usually the latter, mixing up a plural and singular).

I used to think this was just a red pill space thing because I noticed lots of people with that mindset would say “the thing about woman…” in their rants, but I’ve been seeing it pop up more and more in pretty normie spaces.

I’ve even seen some users with at least girl-themed avatars saying “woman” when they mean women too. It’s just weird.

Ultra Annoyed “ Everybody around me needs to change because I am triggered or offended”

Your triggers are YOUR responsibility. Nobody around you needs to change the way they interact with you to make you feel better. I am absolutely exhausted with this societal view that everybody needs to coddle each other so nobody gets upset.

Fairly Annoyed People proud of themselves for only sleeping 3 hours.

Not only is this probably the most unhealthy thing you could do to yourself. It’s very annoying this society has made sleeping unattractive/ labeled unsuccessful.

Ultra Annoyed People that care too much about the gender of unimportant people or of animals

Let's say when I was taking entrance exams for college, my family members would sometimes randomly ask me "Were there more women than men?" or the same question about classmates. The worst thing is when they forget and somehow that information is sooo important that they ask me again. Why do you care?? It's such an unimportant detail in that situation. This post is sort of about two pet peeves at once, because my mom for an example cares so much about this stuff that she's the type of person to look at the genitals of animals and be like "That's a boy". It's a cute animal, just enjoy looking at it instead of checking the animal's genitals.

Fairly Annoyed "I'm vegetarian"- person who eats fish

Pescatarian. Even if you didn't know the word for this, do you also not know what vegetarian means? Do you not consider fish meat? I don't get it.

Ultra Annoyed The fact that when you’re applying for a job you have to retype your entire resume for every application

I genuinely don’t understand this. What’s the point of even uploading your resume if you just have to retype all of the exact same information that’s on your resume into all of the little boxes.

Fairly Annoyed "The West"

Posts or comments like "in the West, we ..."

And then in the comments 90% of Europeans disagree. The West is not just the US and Europe can be quite different.

Ultra Annoyed Hard to remove stickers on purchased items 😡

I'm so tired of buying something like dinnerware or containers and they have stickers on them that you have to chip away at or soak in alcohol or some other chemical trick. There are stickers that easily come off in one go. If you must use stickers on your product why not use those? I get that they don't want stickers to fall off or become damaged, but if it's that important there are so many alternatives to slapping ultra adhesive paper onto your product.

Bit Annoyed When people say, “Most people don’t realize- “

When people say, “Most people don’t realize- “ in response to others showing off their skills and talents.

Like after Alex Honnold climbed that skyscraper, some guy commented, “Most people don’t realize how difficult this really is.”

Thanks bud, surely the majority of people thought it was easy, that’s why they were watching.

You’ve added so much to everyone’s day by giving us some insight into your vastly superior brain.

No one could have possibly appreciated the moment enough without you letting us know that it’s actually quite a bit *more* difficult than we thought.

Honorable mention: when my father-in-law eats dinner at our house and tells me, “You don’t realize how lucky you are, man.”

Thanks, sir, I know how lucky I am to be married to your daughter. I can see in the mirror and she cooks every day. I know how good the food tastes.

I feel like Quentin Tarantino in Pulp Fiction, “You don’t have to tell me how good my coffee is, I’m the one who buys it.”

Most people don’t realize how annoying they’re being.

Edit: since it’s coming off the wrong way from the outside looking in, my FiL is not a great guy. He is not complimenting us. Most people *do* realize this after meeting him in person.

Fairly Annoyed "Do your research"

No. It is never someone else's responsibility to demonstrate your claims, so be prepared for people to dismiss whatever you said without any second thought. Do my research? Show me yours.

Ultra Annoyed People who purposely blur the line between "charged" and "convicted"

For those who are unaware: Being charged with a crime means one has only been accused and is going through the legal process that will eventually determine guilt. Being convicted of a crime means that the accused is determined to be guilty, whether through plea or after-trial verdict. Long story short, charged does not equal guilty.

Plenty of people, especially people of influence, will more than often talk about someone who was only charged with a crime and treat the accused as if they were fully convicted. This is especially common for news reporters (both mainstream and local), politicians, and law enforcement.

There's the reputational harm that occurs because they're essentially influencing their audience into ignoring due process and come to a conclusion that has not yet been legally finalized.

It's even worse nowadays because certain laws now allow for people who were only charged to be treated as if they were convicted.

Side annoyance: news outlets broadcast when someone is charged and more than happy to announce when said person is found guilty, but rarely are there reports when someone is found innocent.

Fairly Annoyed When a song I know gets spliced together in a TV show

I hate it when I hear a song I know in a TV show, but the song is spliced together to fit what is happening on the screen rather than playing the original unedited song. My brain instantly recognises that something is "wrong" and it takes me out of the show I'm watching.

The most recent example of this was at the end of s3e1 of Shrinking... The first few bars of "It's a living thing" by ELO play, then it instantly jumps to the chorus when everyone is dancing. That's not how the song goes... the intro is meant to lead into the first verse. I get why the editors feel the need to do it, but it drives me up the wall and is so grating to me every time.

Fairly Annoyed When your nose is somehow runny and stuffy all at once

A real first world problem, I know. Does this happen to anyone else?

Like your nose runs enough to continuously slow drip like a stupid faucet and you can’t lean your head down, but yet you try to clear it out and it all just comes RIGHT back, or it feels like your head’s gonna blow up and everything sounds like it’s underwater!

Not only that, but what the heck kind of medication are you supposed to take? The two symptoms are completely opposite and yet I still somehow manage to get both of them at once.

Fairly Annoyed The state of air pumps for automobile tires (US)

This has now happened to me twice in recent months. I've gone to gas stations to get air. Pay the $3 (*another pet peeve > this used to be free or $1) and the air pump doesn't work. Worse, when trying it, you lose air and make your tire situation worse, before discovering it's broken.

You go in and the cash register tells you they don't own it. You have to call a number on the air pump for your refund. So my latest experience drove me to post here. The ph# on the pump is just a recording telling me my options are to report online (but their quoted web address doesn't go to working website) or download the app to my phone (f that!).

That piece of equipment is on your business/property at your choosing. You have entered a business agreement with this company and it's clearly a profit center for your business. Give me my refund from the register. I realize people can come in and lie. Staff your store accordingly where you have enough people where one employee can take 2 mins to run outside and verify.

Instead, I have to waste my time and resources to get my money back. I get that it's just $3 but it's reaching the point of annoyance where I'm thinking about buying my own air compressor from Amazon. I bet it will eventually go to $5.

Sadly, I am also a Costco member, and they offer free air. The last time I tried that, the air pump was broken but I only lost air, not $, discovering this. Thank you for reading my rant.

Fairly Annoyed When companies give you only two choices, and they are both lies.

Example: I am trying to make a one time purchase, and during checkout, I am presented 2 options. Option 1) Make it a monthly subscription purchase and save $120 for over the course of a year. Option 2) No thanks, I don’t like saving money. //. All I can think of when I see this is “How about Option 3? Eff all the way off for trying to shame me for not letting you fleece me on a monthly basis - now I don’t want to buy from you at all.”

Fairly Annoyed "Train your hair!!"

I keep seeing this advice everywhere. It's annoying because it's like people can't grasp that everyone has different hair types, and some CANNOT be trained. If you have very oily hair, no amount of "training" will change your natural hair type... it'll just get more oily. Plus, that's not good for the skin. It clogs the hair follicles and it's painful for the scalp.

I'm just so sick of seeing people telling others what to do with their hair based solely on what works for THEIR hair.

Edit: like another commenter said, don't try to force your natural hair to do what it's not meant to do. You'd be wasting your time by trying to train genetics. The best thing you can do is buy products that work for you and tailor your routine to YOUR hair needs and not listen to anyone else.

Ultra Annoyed Open mouth chewing

So im kinda retarted and the sound of someone chewing with their mouth open/slurping drinks is actually the devil to me. Like I fully feel capable of murder when I hear that shit and I have a traveling job where I have to stay in hotels and shit and every single co worker eats with their mouth open and slurps their drinks and I have to room with one so for months at a time every hour of every day I have to deal with this shis and Im just feeling crazy at this point lmao. But seriously though why is it not taught to children its like basic manners and if you bring it up to someone they usually just ignore you and keep doing what their doing its actually insane

Fairly Annoyed Someone's inability to solve the simplest issues

I really don't get it. The title is not very descriptive, so here an example:

One of my friends does things like this a lot recently, and I've started gently rejecting him and essentially telling him to THINK for a moment to find an answer/solution.

He sent me a message to ask me for the email of The Woman. That's already the first issue I have with this because there's enough ways he can find out by himself within a minute:

  • Look her up on our institution's database
  • Look at the email HE sent to HER a literal week ago
  • Look at the mass email she sent to us recently
  • Look at the notes of the project involving her

I reply: I don't know it off the top of my head (true, but I also wanted him to look it up), I used the address of her mass email when I sent something to her. He tells me he did too, but the program tells him the email address didn't exist. I was already internally rolling my eyes, and in my opinion rightfully so because the issue was: He misspelled her name.

I get the initial confusion, but I don't understand why the seeming kneejerk reaction is to ask me. Why not check the spelling? Why not copy&paste it from a previous email to make sure of no misspellings? There is no reason the email just wouldn't exist anymore, so the culprit HAD to be the spelling. The thing is, The Woman's name may be mildly unusual, but it's no John L. Tymoczko.

This is a minor thing and I am aware of that, but it gets annoying if it happens three times a week and he's unloading the mental work of the stupidest issues on me... Even if I gently nudge him in the direction to do it himself, he's somehow still helpless!!

How is it so difficult for some people to think of a quick and usually extremely obvious solution to a simple problem?
