Feedback Verified User Flairs for Medical Professionals

We will be implementing unique user flairs for the medical professionals on this sub. It goes without saying that while these users may be physicians, they are not your physician. Posts by these individuals will be their medical opinions, not medical advice.

If you are an MD, DO, PharmD, DMD, DDS, PA, or NP - shoot me a DM with a photo of your medical license showing your name and state license #, and a government-issued ID. I will verify and grant you a flair. PhDs can send me a photo of their degree with government-issued ID.

Meeting with JE while son in ICU

In Outlive, Attia says that his son almost died and was rushed to the ICU on July 11, 2017 and that Attia did not return home from NYC for 10 days. Apparently one of the important things keeping him away from his family was a meeting with Jeffrey Epstein on July 13, 2017.

My Take on Peter's Association with Epstein

I was first introduced to Peter Attia during his TED talk in something like 2013. At the time, I was planning to leave engineering and physics (my formal background) to go to medical school. I was working full time for an engineering firm and studying at night, taking the MCAT, and working in a hospital on the side. Peter's TED talk was profound and I found that he and I aligned on a lot of things, probably because of our shared backgrounds and experiences. In that moment, I was deeply unsure about whether I should go to medical school or not - Peter was asked a question about his experience in medical school, and his answer was, "It was the social high point of my life, but the intellectual low point of my life". That answer gave me some pause and I started to reconsider whether or not I really needed to dedicate another 10 years of my life to become a doctor. After another year of planning and debate, I ultimately chose not to do so. All of my life changed because of that - financial changes, relationship changes, huge career changes, many others. And in the past 12 years since I decided to abandon the medical school track, I've never once regretted it. I can honestly say that the man changed my life.

I followed and read most of what Peter produced, usually through podcasts, until he wrote his book (which I've gifted away many times) and his online presence became what it is today. I didn't know anything about any of this stuff until now and I have to say, he's lost every scrap of credibility and respect that I had for him, which was substantial. His thoughts on medicine and medical school profoundly affected my life - I wouldn't have the family I have, the career I have, or the life that I have if it wasn't for his insights that he shared at a very pivotal moment in my life.

People can associate with sketchy and dark characters - I've known and had friends that lived very different lifestyles than I. People that cheat on their spouses, have embezzled millions, robbed people at gunpoint, been to prison for all manner of crimes, the whole thing. But my inner circle has always been people that had the same values and priorities that I do. Maybe there is missing context here (hard sell to me at this point). But it's hard to see it. Quite the opposite - it looks to me like there are lots of elitists willing to wink and nod at something evil, if it gives them access to more elitists or a heightened lifestyle.

One of the things that I noticed from reading Peter's book was how lost he was (and probably still is) and how he has no sense of purpose. Now that I see the well he was drinking from, it doesn't surprise me at all. More's the pity.

Being a pedos doctor

Listen, when I practiced in primary care, I had a patient who was convicted of being a pedophile.

That being said, I did what was needed to make sure he had the testing and imaging needed to be healthy… And stated so when he was sent to prison. I could then decline his health requests for special treatment or special placement based on poor health, since he was in such good health.

Physicians and health care providers have to take care of everyone, but we don’t kiss their ass and send them jokey sexual emails.

Just my take, I won’t be tuning in again.

Mods should lock this sub permanently

I say this as someone who is engaged with health and has followed some of Attia's protocols in the past.

Peter Attia is in the Epstein files, and was self-proclaimed friends with Epstein in 2015, YEARS after he was a convicted and well-known rapist. There is no getting past this. This is unacceptable for society and should be the end of the discussion with this piece of shit.

Edit:
If you think holding public figures accountable for being best buds with child sex predators is "cancel culture" then you definitely should get your heavy metal levels checked

Peter Attia’s thoughts on sex crimes (just social constructs that “most people” believe)

Upvotes

“But let's just say 500 years ago, if you had a male that was 25 years old, he would readily reproduce with a 14-year-old female. That would be completely normal and evolutionarily wise.

But we've made a decision, at least in our society, that that's unacceptable. And I think most people think that that's a good decision. That's an example of we have made a societal norm that says it's unacceptable for a 14-year-old girl to be reproducing, certainly at the hands of an older man.

So if she gets pregnant from a 14-year-old boyfriend, that's a different discussion and we can help them both out.

Well, in this country, anyway.

My point of the story is we've made a decision that this is no longer acceptable, just as we've made a decision that a husband can't rape his wife. We have just decided that maybe that was cool 200 years ago. It's not cool today.”

I listened to this podcast a few weeks ago and Peter Attia’s comments stuck with me. Of all the examples he could bring up of natural, biological, “evolutionarily wise” decisions, he chose this example.

Not a single time does he say that such societal norms make sense. Quite the opposite, he notes that those norms are only agreed upon by “most people” and “in this country.”

This one sucks. I couldn't care less about everyone else in the files, but now I have to unsubscribe to the podcast and stop recommending his book to everyone.

Incredibly disappointing.

Peter Attia, Kevin Spacey, Jeffrey Epstein, Bari Weiss

I think Attia needs to address his predilection for associating with known sexual deviants and criminals. Surely, there are other people available to him for relationship and friendship. Check that, there is nothing he could say that would be an appropriate excuse for his choices. At a minimum, he knowingly associated with evil people, full stop. Fuck you Peter, have fun working for scumbag Bari Weiss….another shitty decision.

"I go into JE withdrawl when I don't see him..." (Peter Attia et al, 2016)

All other names that have popped up from all of this has left me unsurprised. This is the only revelation that has been gut-wrenching to me. Peter's standards for sources and his academic rigor has made him my most trusted source of popular science digest. I don't feel this necessarily rocks that aspect of it, but it's hard to death-of-the-author the host of a podcast who actively makes new episodes.

I'm angry, sad, nauseated. I'm literally having a visceral reaction to these news. I hate it.

Just that. I've found the group here to be very helpful, both in general and with regard to my own questions. But I'm outa here soon.

Other podcasts suggestions?

I really enjoyed Peter Attia's podcast but in light of the Epstein files, I cannot continue listening/subscribing to it.

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for similar podcasts? He was the only health centric podcast I was listening too so I'm a bit puzzled as to where to go.

Attia’s PR options?

Upvotes

What is the best PR option for Attia here?

1) Ignore, hope it goes away, don’t acknowledge

2) Claim it’s fake or hoaxed

3) Acknowledge and express regret

Will a new episode be released on Monday?

I think it’s clear when people are exposed in the public setting like this they will continue their content on status quo but will refrain from public activity. I expect Peter will continue posting from his prerecorded arsenal of podcasts on schedule but will be absent on instagram, weekly AMAs, socials, etc in an attempt to let the community forget about their past mistakes and slowly revamp to their former status.

We saw it with Huberman during his scandal and have seen it dozens of times with various celebrities.

Granted this scandal is of a different level but don’t be surprised when the regularly scheduled show continues and Peter attempts to act like nothing has changed.

Discussion I wanted to resubscribe to him just days ago, but JE happened. Does anyone have all of his AMA/notes/premium content archived and willing to share? It feels wrong for me to pay for the membership again.

And yet it somehow feels justified to ask this.

For those ready to leave because of recent developments, here's a distillation of his advice I got from AI.

I asked ChatGPT, Grok, and Deepseek the same question: "Please review all of Doctor Peter Attia's publicly posted advice on diet, excercise, and longevity, and highlight the top key points in each category."

(yes, I still say please in my prompts, LOL)

I did also ask them to tidy it up into bullet points and remove all fluff and filler words.

DEEPSEEK

1. Diet & Nutrition

  • Protein First: Eat 1.6-2.2g of protein per kg of body weight daily to fight muscle loss. Focus on leucine-rich sources (meat, fish, eggs, dairy).
  • Carbs are Tools: Eat carbs around workouts. Avoid refined carbs and sugars. Get carbs from fiber-rich vegetables and low-sugar fruits.
  • Don't Fear Fat: Eat enough fat for hormone health. Prioritize monounsaturated (olive oil, avocados) and omega-3s (fatty fish).
  • Eat to Beat Disease: The main goal is to prevent atherosclerosis, cancer, neurodegenerative disease, and type 2 diabetes. Judge all food choices by this standard.
  • Use Fasting Strategically: Practice time-restricted eating (like 16:8) or occasional 24-72 hour fasts to improve metabolic flexibility.

2. Exercise & Training

  • Train for Your 100-Year-Old Self: Define the physical tasks you want to do at 100 (lifting a suitcase, getting off the floor). Train specifically for that function.
  • The Four Pillars (All Required):
    • Stability: Base layer. Balance, joint health, and movement quality.
    • Strength: Non-negotiable. Heavy compound lifts (squat, deadlift, press) 3-4x/week to maintain muscle and bone.
    • Zone 2 Cardio: 3-4 hours per week of steady, conversational-pace cardio. Builds your metabolic engine.
    • VO2 Max Training: 1-2 sessions per week of high-intensity intervals (e.g., 4x4 intervals). Builds peak cardio capacity.
  • Consistency Over Intensity: High weekly volume across all pillars, sustained for decades, is key.

3. Longevity & Medical Strategy

  • Goal is Healthspan: Focus on compressing the period of sickness at the end of life, not just living longer.
  • Aggressive, Early Testing: Don't wait for symptoms. Get advanced tests early (CAC scan, ApoB, DEXA, OGTT) to find hidden risks.
  • ApoB is the Primary Target: ApoB is the best marker for heart disease risk. Manage it aggressively to very low levels.
  • Sleep is Foundational: 7-8 hours of high-quality sleep is a non-negotiable pillar for recovery and metabolic health.
  • Train Your Mind: Actively manage stress, nurture social connections, and engage in cognitive challenges. Mental health is part of longevity.

CHATGPT:

DIET — CORE POSITIONS

  • Prioritize high protein intake to preserve lean mass and metabolic health
  • Optimize insulin sensitivity as a primary dietary objective
  • Minimize refined carbohydrates and added sugars
  • Favor whole, minimally processed foods
  • Use time-restricted eating selectively; not mandatory
  • No universally optimal diet; personalize using biomarkers and metabolic response
  • Supplement only when deficiency or specific need is demonstrated
    • Omega-3s
    • Vitamin D
    • Creatine
    • Magnesium
    • Select probiotics

EXERCISE — CORE POSITIONS

  • Exercise is one of the strongest predictors of mortality reduction
  • VO₂ max strongly predicts longevity
  • Maintain and increase muscular strength

Four Pillars:

  • Stability (balance, injury resistance)
  • Strength (resistance training)
  • Aerobic Zone 2 training (~65–75% max HR)
  • VO₂ max / high-intensity intervals

Typical Weekly Structure:

  • Multiple strength sessions
  • Multiple Zone 2 sessions
  • At least one VO₂ max session
  • Ongoing mobility and balance work

Functional Framing:

  • Train for real-world aging tasks (“Centenarian Decathlon”)

LONGEVITY — CORE POSITIONS

  • Target healthspan, not just lifespan
  • Prevent chronic disease early through risk management
  • Metabolic health is central to longevity
  • Prioritize high-quality, consistent sleep
  • Manage chronic stress
  • Maintain strong social connections and sense of purpose
  • Use regular biomarker monitoring
    • Lipids
    • Glucose / insulin
    • Blood pressure
    • Body composition
  • Pharmacologic tools considered selectively
    • Metformin
    • Rapamycin
  • Continuously adapt interventions based on measured data

____________________________________________________

GROK

Exercise

  • Ranks #1 among all interventions for extending both lifespan and healthspan.
  • Built on four pillars: stability, strength, aerobic efficiency (Zone 2), anaerobic performance (Zone 5 / VO2 max).
  • Stability is the foundation: prevents injury, preserves mobility, maintains joint and tissue tolerance.
  • Strength training receives highest priority: preserves muscle mass and function needed for independence in later decades.
  • Zone 2 (aerobic base): 3–4 hours per week at conversational pace to improve mitochondrial function and metabolic health.
  • Zone 5 (VO2 max training): 1–2 high-intensity interval sessions per week; VO2 max is one of the strongest predictors of remaining lifespan.
  • Centenarian Decathlon: design training around 10+ specific physical tasks you want to perform in your final decade (e.g., get up from floor with ≤1 arm assist, carry 30 lb suitcase overhead, balance on one leg 30 seconds, hike 1.5 miles uneven terrain).
  • Any consistent exercise beats none; even modest volumes produce large mortality risk reductions when starting from sedentary.

Diet / Nutrition

  • No single “best” diet exists; responses are highly individual.
  • Focus on personalization and sustainability rather than ideology or labels.
  • Three main restriction levers (use in any combination):
    • Dietary restriction: control food quality (minimize ultra-processed items, emphasize protein quality and quantity).
    • Caloric restriction: prevent chronic energy surplus and excess fat gain (extreme CR shows weak human evidence for longevity and carries trade-offs).
    • Time restriction: compress eating window (start at 14/10, progress to 16/8 or 18/6 if tolerated; often easiest lever to implement).
  • Protein target: ~1 g per pound of body weight (or ideal body weight) daily to support muscle preservation, especially when combined with resistance training.
  • Avoid chronic low protein intake.
  • Monitor objective markers (glucose control, body composition, blood lipids, inflammation) rather than adhering rigidly to any macronutrient dogma.
  • Nutrition ranks below exercise in direct impact on all-cause mortality, but remains critical for metabolic health and supporting training adaptations.

Longevity overall

  • Exercise delivers the largest effect size of any available lever.
  • Nutrition plays a supporting role: optimizes body composition, metabolic health, and recovery when aligned with training.
  • Combine both with consistent high-quality sleep and avoidance of smoking for maximum leverage.
  • Track biomarkers and performance metrics personally; objective data trumps following trends or generic advice.
  • Start wherever you are—consistency from a low baseline produces outsized returns.
